It was a very exciting day for my sister and me. As soon as our dad got home, he was going to give us a special gift. It wasn’t our birthday or anything; our dad had just felt like getting us something special.
The car pulled up, and Dad got out carrying a large bag. He walked up to the door and handed us the bag. Mindy and I looked into the bag together and pulled out the most beautiful red purses we’d ever seen, one for Mindy and one for me.
“I love it!” I said, as I gave my dad a big kiss. Mindy did the same. Mindy always copied me. We had our new purses, but they were empty. Mindy wanted to put something in them — something exciting. So we looked around the house to see what we could find. We couldn’t find much until we walked into our mom and dad’s bedroom. I looked inside one of Dad’s dresser drawers and found what looked like a lot of money.
“Mindy, look what I found!” She came running,“What, what is it ” I pointed inside the drawer. “It’s money. We can stick all this money inside our new red purses.” Mindy looked confused. “That’s mom and dad’s money. We can’t take that.”
I started to put the money into my purse, and Mindy copied me. Our purses were as stuffed as could be. We ran out of our parents’ room and headed for ours. “Let’s hide our purses in our dresser drawer,” I said. As soon as we did this, I heard a loud yell (喊叫). “Honey, our money is missing,” my mother shouted. My dad was frantic (发狂的), and I could hear him pacing downstairs. “I know I put the money in our drawer. Where could it be ”
I heard footsteps coming up the stairs toward our room. Soon, both our parents were standing in front of us.

【答案】One possible version
“Did you happen to find some money ” my father asked. Mindy looked at me with fear in her eyes. “No,” I said. Dad and Mom stood there waiting for another answer. Mindy and I both became nervous.“Where are your new red purses ” my mother asked.“Can I see them ” I walked over to our dresser and started to pull them out. Mindy began to cry. “It was Michelle’s idea. It’s all her fault. She made me do it.” I handed Mom the purses. She looked inside, and there was all of the money.
“It was Mindy’s idea to put something special into her purse,”I said. My parents sat us down and talked about the importance of taking responsibility. “It doesn’t matter whose fault it is. You have to own up. Now, you both are responsible for doing something that you shouldn’t have,” Mom said. Mindy and I apologized to them and to each other, and gave our parents a tight hug.(158 words)

Hunger
When I was a young boy, my mother would place spoonfuls of vegetables onto my plate whether I wanted them or not and the rule in our family was that we always had to clean our plates. However, I rarely saw my mother eat the vegetables herself. She always served us first. She seemed never hungry.
She worked for a rich lady in town, and I always assumed that the reason why she didn’t have our tasteless meals was that she had eaten meats and sweets in the rich lady’s kitchen. Our meals were boring, and there was never enough since there were ten of us — my parents plus eight children.
One afternoon my older sisters were sick, so they couldn’t take care of me. Therefore, my mother had no choice but to bring me with her. It was a long winter day and as my father hadn’t had much work, we had even less food than usual. So I was very excited to go to the rich woman’s house.
My mother placed me in a corner while she rolled out pie crust (饼皮). Then she cooked some meat, and by the afternoon, the pleasant smell filled the kitchen and was making its way into my empty stomach. Then, a bell rang in the kitchen and my mother told me, “Don’t move” and then left.
I tried to do as told, but then I thought it wouldn’t matter if I ate just one blackberry. So I put a single blackberry into my mouth. What an explosion of flavor! The wonderful taste hitting my empty stomach was more than I could handle! Soon I was throwing blackberries into my mouth with two hands! It wasn’t until I was staring at the empty bowl that I noticed the empty, unbaked pie crust sitting on the table waiting for the berries. I looked around for more berries, but there was none. Suddenly, I heard footsteps approaching, so I quickly hid into the cupboard (碗柜).

【答案】Just at the moment, my mother entered the kitchen, following a well-dressed lady. My mother excitedly discussed today’s special food with the lady. She was about to show her the dough and the blackberries in the bowl, at this point, they noticed that all the blackberries in the bowl were gone, which shocked my mother. The lady asked angrily whether she had eaten the blackberry, with my mother lowering her head in silence. The lady said you are always doing a good job. But you let me down today. Then the lady left.
After the lady left, I crept(爬) out of the cupboard with tears streaming down my face. I said to my mother, “I’m sorry, mom, I stole the blackberry. You made the blackberry so delicious that I couldn’t stop eating them. After listening to what the lady said, I know that you have been working hard for our family. It was my fault, and I’m willing to apologize and explain everything to the lady.” Then we went together.

3.(2022·江苏连云港·高一期末)阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Midde school is a tough time for almost everyone. Most kids are trying to figure out who they are and who they want to be. It took me some time to realize that I wanted to be kind more than I wanted to be popular.
I was talking to some friends while standing in line in the cafeteria at my middle school. As I started to share a funny story, my friend Elizabeth interrupted me. “Coco! Coco!” She called out. All my friends laughed. This was so strange, I thought.
Over the next week, every time I opened my mouth around Elizabeth, she interrupted me with that same word. Elizabeth was one of the girls that everyone wanted to be friends with. She always had the nicest clothes and told the funniest jokes. I felt lucky to be friends with her. I didn’t want to be left out, so I started using the word too. Elizabeth thought it was funny when I interrupted someone else’s story with our new code word. And since I wanted her to like me, I did it even more, even though I wasn’t sure what it meant.
One day after school, Sara, a classmate since primary school, stopped by my desk and asked, “Julia, do you know why Elizabeth started saying ‘Coco’ all the time ”
I shook my head.
Sara sighed. “It means she thinks you’re being annoying. A few days ago, she told us that you were bothering her when you told stories. She wanted a code word without you knowing she was talking about you. I know it’s really mean, and the rest of us shouldn’t have gone along with it. I’m really sorry.”
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
My eyes were filled with tears.
______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
“You’re right, Sara,” I said.
______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】Para. 1:
My eyes were filled with tears. I couldn’t believe it. The girl who I was breaking my back to be friends with treated me as a fool. I remembered how many times I’d used the word myself just to fit in, and it made me feel even worse. Sara said, “Elizabeth does things like that to a lot of people. You didn’t deserve to be treated that way, and nobody else does either.”
Para. 2:
“You’re right, Sara,” I said. I thought of all the times I’d laughed when Elizabeth had made fun of someone else. It only bothered me when she turned her sights on me. I should have stood up to her a long time ago. I stopped hanging out with Elizabeth since then. The word Coco will always serve as a reminder that I need to stay true to myself and never compromise my values to be friends with someone.

December 16 was an old man's 75th birthday. His health had not been good over the past few years and it was hard for him to run his family business. So he had to decide which one of his sons would take his place.
As they gathered to celebrate their father's birthday, he announced his retirement.“Dad,I can't imagine a day without you as the head of the business,"one said.
There was a silence. Surely the question playing on their minds was “Who would take his place "The old man turned and walked toward the corner of the room where there were three empty boxes.“Come and take one box each. They are of equal size. On the first day of the New Year when we return here to celebrate, I want you to bring your box filled with what you believe to be the most valuable of this business, then I'll decide who will be chairman,” the old man said.
During the next fifteen days, the families and workers could feel a strong competitive spirit between the three boys.
One carried the box nearly everywhere he went.Another ran department to department asking for records. The third man simply left the box empty at his desk.
On January 1,the family gathered to celebrate. Right after dinner, the old man said,“Well, please share with men what you have placed in your box.” The first son pulled the business ledger(分类账本)from his box. Madison Wiliams was studying in her bedroom in Dublin, Ohio, in August 2016 when the deor burst open. t was her mother, Leigh williams, with a horrific and unbelievable story: “A little boy fell into a septic tank, and no one but you can reach him.” Then she made this request of her 13-year-old daughter: “Can you help ”
Without delay, Madison and Leigh ran to a neighbor's yard, where they found the boy's worried mother and other desperate adults surrounding a septic tank opening that stood a few inches above the neatly cut lawn. It was 11 inches acrossslightly wider than a basketball—with an entrance that had been secured. The boy, who was only two years old, had slipped in and was struggling in four feet of sewage inside a tank that was eight feet deep.
The men and womenwho minutes earlier had been enjoying a party in a nearby home when they heard the boy's mother scream-were dropping extension ropes into the septic tank hoping the child would take hold so they could pull him out.
Madison quickly surveyed the situation. She was the only one who could fit through the small hole. Without hesitation, she got on her stomach next to the opening, placed her arms out in front of her, and told the adults,“Lower me in.”
Leigh and others held her waist and legs.' moved my arms and shoulders up and down until I got through the opening” Madison says. Inside, the tank was dark and the air smelly. Madison thrust her arms into the muck. In the process, she jammed her left wrist against a hidden pole, injuring the muscles in her wrist and arm so severely that the hand was made useless.

His little toes popped out of the water once in a while and she tried to grab them. With minutes ticking by, she saw the outline of his foot again. She shot her good hand out and grasped the foot tightly. “Pull me out!” she shouted to the others above. Ten minutes after she had entered the tank, Mandison and the boy were lifted out.
Para 2:
The boy was out of the tank but was not out of trouble. He had been in short of oxygen for so long that he wasn’t breathing. He was placed on his side, and an adult gave him several hard pats on the back, one right after the other, until the boy coughed up sewage. It was only when Mandison heard him cry that she knew he was all right. And the comforting news was that the boy was taken to hospital and released that same night. Mandison became a hero of Dublin.
