Step1. Lead in
1. Divide the whole class into six families. And they will compete for the most loving family. If a family member do well in this class, she or he will get a smile face for the family.. The family with the most faces at the end of the class will be the most loving family.
2. Guessing game. (Describe two students to let other students to guess)
3. Let Ss think and talk about the question “how do we describe people” 4. Show Ss some vivid pictures and then ask Ss to fill in a chart with words to describe people’s appearances.
5. Let one student to describe himself according to the words in the chart.
Step2. Presentation
1. Show a photo of a TV Show called Home with kids and some present
Photos of actors and actress. Then Let students compare these photos and find out the changes they have.
2. Show Ss some pictures of characters in Home with kids and then ask Ss to describe what these characters used to look like
3. Let students change some sentences with “used to be /used to do”
4. Show some pictures and let students say what they used to look like and what they look like now.
Eg. She used to be…….but now she is …
Step3 Listening and speaking
1. Activity 1b.
Listen and complete the sentences of what Bob’s friends used to look like with what you hear. Pay attention to “used to be/do sth.”
2. Pair works.
Look at the pictures in 1a and ask Ss to make conversations with the sentence structures in 1c.
3. Show some pictures to lead to the changes the characters have in personality and hobby. And then let students list the words to describe the personality.
4. Show the new words about the personality.
5. Show some pictures of characters in Home with kids let students speak out what they used to be like in personality and in hobby.
6. Listen and check the words you hear in 2a. And then ask one student to check the answers.
7. Listen again and complete the chart about how Paula has changed. And then ask students to check the answers.
8. Explain some important and difficult phrases
Step4 Consolidation
In order to teach students care about their parents ,ask each student to write down the changes their parents have in appearance ,personality and in hobby . Then let the family leader makes a report according to the example on ppt.
