W: On May 27th, 2021, my family visited the Lake Eyasi area. No bus or train could take us there, so we drove all the way there. The Hadzapi are one of the few remaining traditional hunter gatherer groups left in the world. When you visit them, they are not putting on a show. This is the real thing! We went to that area mainly because we were curious about how this group live. First we picked up a guide in a nearby village. Researchers from around the world visit and study the Hadzapi, and our guide went with them in the past and spent 6 months living with the bushmen. So this guide was familiar with the group and their language. When you visit the Hadzapi, you observe them as they go about their daily lives. They hunt daily using traditional hunting tools. They make fire by rubbing sticks together. In the dry season they don’t bother building huts to live in. They live the way I imagine people lived thousands of years ago. Watching them live was truly an amazing experience.
