2.了解电影的分类、与产业相关的工作名称及性质和电影制作流程,感受电影魅力,体会幕后工作人员的艰辛和他们为电影艺术奉献的精神。
教学重难点
教学重点:找到语篇的主题句,了解文本的主要信息和细节信息,借助“思维导图”分析和理解议论文结构。
教学难点:赏析语篇的文体特征与修辞手法,推理和论证作者写作目的及情感,理性表达自己的观点,感受电影幕后工作者的辛勤付出。

教学过程:
一、Pre-reading

教师活动:引导学生自由讨论关于电影的话题,激发学生学习兴趣。

Yes. I have just seen the film called Wonder. It's a family drama.
Born deformed, a boy named Auggie has gone through numerous surgeries, but he still tries to face the difficulties and fit into the school and society. I love the film a lot, as I am much impressed with Auggie's courage and the kindness of the people around him. One of the themes of the film is “kindness”. I still remember a line from it: “If every single person in this room made it a rule that wherever you are, whenever you can, you will try to act a little kinder than is necessary—the world really would be a better place.”

The screenplay, directing, acting, lighting, music, dubbing and recording, special effects, editing, etc.
Which element do you think is the most important in making a successful film
I think the music is the most important element. It can tell us how the people in the film feel and create a certain kind of atmosphere. The film would be boring without it.
2. 学生活动:略读文章,完成P4活动A1。
Behind the scenes
Introduction (Para. 1):
Some aspects of film-making behind the scenes require a lot of hard work.
Main body:

Main points Examples
Many sound effects might not be made in the way you would expect. (1) The sounds of a baby elephant, a tiger and other animals were mixed by a computer to make a dinosaur roar in Jurassic Park. The sound of the doors opening was made by pulling a sheet of paper out of an envelope in the Star Trek films.
(2) Scenes requiring CGI are filmed in front of a green screen. The Quidditch scenes in the Harry Potter films were made with the actors jumping in front of a green screen.
The aid of computers isn't always preferred. (3) The director of The Lord of the Rings films used clever camera angles to make characters seem bigger or smaller than they really were.
(4) Director James Cameron spent six months looking at and revising plans of the Titanic in order to build a full-sized model for his 1997 film. It took 500workers 100 days to build the fine model. Props contribute to a film's success.

No. I don't really like to see too much CGI in films. I think having a good storyline is the most important thing for a film, and sometimes technology can get in the way.
5. 学生活动:思考并回答下列问题。
(1) What does the sentence “... there's always a lot more to it than first meets the eye.”(P2, line 3) mean
Apart from the acting, the music and the amazing sets, there is a lot more hard work behind the scenes.
(2) Two directors, Peter Jackson and James Cameron, are mentioned as examples in the lecture. What qualities do you think a good director should have Why do you think so
From the two directors mentioned in the lecture, I can see that to be a good director, one has to be creative. Take Peter Jackson for example, he was creative enough to come up with new ways of shooting special effects. Secondly, to be a good director, one has to be dedicated. James Cameron spent a lot of time researching the real Titanic in order to get its precise measurements and other important details before building the model that was used in his film.
