“The Three-Body Problem”is written by the Chinese writer, Liu Cixin. It has been translated into almost 20 different languages. Perhaps no one knows the power of imagination better than him.
But even with such a powerful imagination, Liu 57 probably hadn’t expected that he would become the first Asian writer to win the Hugo Award in 2015. Perhaps neither did he think that former US president Barack Obama would read his novel, “The Three-Body Problem” nor would he win the 2018 Arthur Charles Clarke Award. It’s the first time a Chinese writer has ever won the award.
Liu said that science fiction makes readers interested in science, especially young people, and it improves their imagination and creativity.Liu once read a book by Arthur Charles Clarke. “My mind opened up like never before. I felt like a small river finally seeing the sea,”Liu said.“That night, in my eyes, the starry sky was completely different from the past. I was totally shocked by the mystery of the universe(宇宙的神秘).”
But no matter how far away Liu's imagination takes him, somehow his novels always stay rational(合理的;理性的).
In “The Three-Body Problem”for example, Liu tells a story of aliens invading(侵入)the Earth, but unlike other alien stories,Liu talks more about relationships between civilizations(文明) and the meaning of life. And in“The Wandering Earth”,Liu looks ahead to the day when the sun is dying and humans have to look for a new place to live. However, all his stories and solutions are made according to“hard science”.Liu's works aren’t simply daydreams.

Dear editor,
I’d like to talk about four important inventions in human history. They are the medicine, plane, train and computer.
When we’re ill, we should take medicine. It can stop us from getting sicker. It has made it possible for us to live longer.
Mostly we take the plane or train to go to very far places. They have made it more convenient for us to go out.
The computer was invented in the 20th century. It is used by us to study, work or relax. It has made our lives more convenient and colorful.
I can’t imagine what our life will be like without the four inventions.
Yours,
Chen Hui
