Knowledge Objectives
1. Students can learn and master new words, phrases and sentences .
2. Enlarge their knowledge about robots.
3. Get more reading skills.
Ability goals
1. Listen to the tape after finishing reading the passage to pay attention to the pronunciation.
2. Enable the students to talk about if they will have their own robots in the future based on the passage.
3. Enlarge their knowledge about robots and get more reading skills :making predictions/scanning/skimming… .
4. Practice writing skills according to the sentences learned by reading this article .
Moral objectives
1.Improve the students ’ understanding of the importance of the science.
2.Nothing is impossible if you put your heart into it.
Key Points and Difficulties
Key Points: New words, expressions and some important sentences. Students can understand robot’s shape and function. According to the title ,students can infer the content of the article.
Difficulties: Summarize the main idea of each paragraph. Analysis the structures of some difficult sentences . Use the reading skills to finish the tasks.
Teaching Procedure
Step1 Lead-in
(1) Watch a short section of the film and then answer the following questions.
(2) Disscussion: What else do you think the robots will do in the future
Step2 Presentation
1.Pre- reading
Teacher shows the title and the picture in 2b and let Students predict what they want to read about robots in the article.
2.While- reading
1.Skimming: Teacher asks Students to read fast and match the questions in 2b with the paragraph.
2.While-reading: Read Paragraph 1 and 2, and fill in the blanks.
3.While-reading: Read Paragraph 3 and answer the questions.
(1).What are scientists doing now
(2).What are their ideas of robots in the future
4. Read paragraph 3 again, then fill in the blanks in 2d.
5. Disscussion: Talk about your thoughts.
Which side do you agree with What do you think
6. Read Paragraph 4 and complete the diagram.
Step3 Consolidation.
Learning strategy: MIND-MAPPING
To make a mind-map , change the information you read into a “picture of words” . The brain recalls pictures more easily than written information.
Step4 Summarize
1. Nothing is impossible if you put your heart into it.
2. Knowledge is power!Let’s shape the world with knowledge!
