Taking good notes can help you do well in all your schoolwork. But unluckily, most schools don’t teach you how to take notes. So here is some advice.
Write down key facts. If your teacher writes notes on the board, you can copy them down. If not write down the most important points. Different teachers do things differently. For example, some teachers may say lots of dates and facts in class, but only write the key ones on the board. Other teachers may not write anything down, but they may say a certain date or a piece of information several times.
Don’t overdo(做……过度)it. You’ll go crazy if you try to write down every word in class. And if you focus too much on getting your notes right, you may miss important points. Some students learn better by listening, writing down some key points, and then going over the notes after class.
Ask. Don’t be afraid to ask the teacher to say something again. If the teacher is going too fast, your classmates will also be willing to hear the information again. If you feel shy about asking in class, see your teacher after class.
Note-taking gives your mind a chance to absorb(吸收)what you need to learn. It can not only help you do better in a test, but also help you form good study habits.

Introduction
The Xinghua School Reading Club was five years old last month so we decided to make a survey to find out what students think about it. We are sorry to report that membership of our club has fallen in recent years. As Picture 1 shows, only 85 students are members this year.
More findings
We talked to students from Grade 1 to Grade 3 to try to find out why they did not want to join the Reading Club. They gave many different answers, but as Picture 2 shows, the most common reason was that they were not interested in books.
16% of students said they were not interested in the activities of our Reading Club, so we asked students which activities they enjoyed during last year’s Reading Week. These results are shown in Picture 3.
It was clear from these results that the booklover competition was very popular. One student said that we should have a book test with teams from each class. The winning team could compete against teams from other schools. Some students said that they prefer reading books that have been made into movies, such as Harry Potter.
Suggestions
We should try to increase the membership of Xinghua School Reading Club. We can do this by organizing more fun activities, such as competitions. We also raise students’ interest in reading by sharing books that are also movies. We should also make sure that our activities do not influence those of other school clubs and teams.

With the Tokyo Summer Olympics behind us, people are turning their eyes to the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympic Games, which will start in five months. Freestyle skier(自由式滑雪运动员) Gu Ailing, 18, looks to be one of the superstars of the event.
Born to an American father and a Chinese mother, Gu decided to compete for China in the 2022 Winter Olympics in June 2019. Just two months later, she bagged her first gold medal(奖牌) for China at the Australia New Zealand Cup. Her strength continued to grow as she won one bronze(铜牌) and two gold medals at the International Ski Federation(FIS) Snowboard and Freeski World Championships in March, 2021.
People say she is talented. But Gu says that talent counted for “only 1 percent” of her wins, adding that her hard work is what counts. While going to school in San Francisco, Gu could only practice on weekends. She spent eight hours going to the ski hill and back, doing her homework on the way and making full use of her time at the hill to practice skiing.
Gu said she wants to encourage more girls in China to try skiing and other extreme sports(极限运动), many of which have only been known there for 20 years, according to the Olympics website. She said skiing gives her “freedom and creativity”, especially when she perfectly controls her body and does tricks that others cannot do.
Now she is preparing for the Winter Olympics as a full-time athlete. “Of course I want to win medals and even golds, ”Gu said. “But what’s more important is to bring out my own style, enjoy the game and love the sport. ”

When I was a boy, we had a television set. The program I liked best was The Jetsons. It was a cartoon series set in a future that was full of fantastic machines that could do anything. I always dreamed of a day when I would have machines like this to do all my work, so I could just sit back and relax.
Now my life is full of machines like these, but I seem to have more to do than ever. Just today I had to spend most of the morning downloading a new version(版本)of my word processing program, so I could write this article. When I first started out, I wrote my stories on lined notebook paper, and it took half the time. Last week, I spent most of another morning trying to get my new coffee maker to work right. I seem to be drowning in a sea of new rules and problems that come with new technology.
Now don’t get me puters and machines have done a lot to help all of us. I just want us to be able to use them without them using us. We always seem to be busy because we’re spending all of our time using these machines.
I hope that in the future, machines can be more user-friendly, so we don’t spend all our time on them. With machines we can live an easier life, but they can never replace time spent with family and friends.

Some people believe that humans could live on the planet Mars by the year 2100. Our own planet, the Earth, is becoming more and more crowded and polluted because of the rapid increase in population. It is hoped that people could start all over again and build a better world on Mars. Here is what life there could be like.
At present, our spacecraft are too slow to carry large numbers of passengers to Mars-it would take months. With the development of technology, by the year 2100, the journey might only take about 20 minutes in spacecraft that travel at the speed of light! However, the spacecraft would travel so fast that the journey to Mars might be quite uncomfortable. Many people would feel ill.
Humans cannot survive(生存)without water, oxygen(氧气)or food. So far, nobody knows whether there would be enough water or oxygen on Mars for people there. Moreover, scientists are not sure whether plants could grow on Mars. And food would not be so tasty.
Gravity(重力)could be another problem. The gravity on Mars is only about three-eighths of that on the Earth. People would have to wear boots(靴子) that are specially designed to prevent themselves from floating off into space.
Compared with life on the Earth, life on Mars would be better in some ways. People would have more space. They might live in houses with huge comfortable rooms. Also, robots would do most of their work so that they could have more time to relax.
There would probably be no schools on Mars. Every student would have a computer at home connected to an interplanetary(行星间的)network. They would study at online schools with “e-teachers”.
Although there will be a lot of challenges(挑战), life on Mars would be interesting and I look forward to that day.
65.What can we infer(推断)from the passage
A.There is no need for students to continue to study on Mars.
B.By the year 2100, there will be no people living on the Earth any more.
C.People will enjoy fast and comfortable journey from the Earth to Mars in the near future.
D.People living on Mars will have more time to do the things they like.

A.Moving to Mars B.Space travel
C.Interesting life on Mars D.The comparison between the Earth and Mars
67.What is the writer’s attitude(态度)towards living on Mars
A.Doubtful. B.Negative(消极的). C.Uncaring. D.Hopeful.

Hi Jeremy,
Thanks for your question. As people often say, any exercise is better than none, but running has a lot of advantages.
It is a great sport for beginners—you do not need a gym membership or any special equipment(设备). Just a pair of good running shoes will do. The most important thing is to keep it up.
You are also somebody who worries about getting sick. Running will help you, get fit and prevent diseases. Like any exercise, running can make your heart stronger and allows more blood to flow around your body. It also strengthens your immune system(免疫系统) and reduces the risk of serious health problems, as well as more common illnesses like colds. Besides, anybody who is feeling down can go for a run to cheer themselves up and feel relaxed.
If you are new to running, here is some advice for you—it is important to warm up and cool down properly before and after running, so you do not hurt yourself. A warm-up gets your blood flowing and prepares your body before you exercise. After a long run, you should jog slowly for ten minutes, and then walk for five minutes. Such kind of warm-down relaxes your body after exercise.
