Lou Ottens, who invented the cassette tapes (盒式磁带) and played a major role in the development of the first CD, has died at the age of 94.
Ottens, born on June 21, 1926, showed an early interest in engineering. He built a radio as a teenager so that his parents could listen to news programs during the World War II. Following the war, Ottens got an engineering degree, and started work at the Philips factory in 1952. Eight years later, he was chosen as the head of the company’s product development department. Within a year he showed the first portable tap recorder(便携式磁带录音机).
It was two years later that Ottens made the biggest breakthrough (突破) of his life—the cassette tape. Ottens’ idea was that the tape should fit in his jacket pocket. In 1963, the first cassette tape was presented to the world in Germany.
Over many years, more than 100 billion cassette tapes have been sold across the world. Music fans have used them to share their favorite songs. In recent years, the public’s interest in cassette tapes has started to grow yet again. Ottens’ death follows a banner year (丰收年) for his invention. In 2020, several musicians, from Lady Gaga to Selena Gomez, found success selling cassette tapes.

Technology helps us know more information. But the news is not always useful for us. We should find out whether it is necessary to read before we read it. And that’s why I think public schools should offer media literacy(媒体素养) lessons.
Media literacy is the ability to read and understand any kind of media. And it’s important in both life and learning. However, it is a skill that many people don’t seem to have. Wrong information can spread(传播) far and quickly when people don’t have media literacy. Last year, an unreal story about a woman winning the lottery(彩票) was shared more than 1.77 million times on social media.
However, there is a way to ____▲____ this problem. If we teach kids media literacy in schools, they will master(掌握) the skills. Many of these skills are simple for example, being able to take a look at a news website and quickly tell if it is real.
The media will only get more crowded as time goes by. So it is important for kids to learn these skills. Learning to tell the fact from much information will help kids get right information when they grow up and learn more about the world.

C. there are different types of information D. there are too much information to learn
