Possible answer:
To celebrate the Dragon Boat Festival, we Chinese often hold dragon boat racing and eat rice dumplings. It's said that in the first place people in the Warring States Period threw rice dumplings into the river to feed the fish so they would not eat the body of their poet hero Qu Yuan, who committed suicide by drowning himself in Miluo River on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month. And people started dragon boat racing to scare the fish off.
