A
Family friendly Walks
Padley Gorge
Next to Grindleford Station, eight miles north of Bakewell, lies Padley Gorge. Trails are kept as natural as possible—it's more a case of finding the gaps in the woods than following a path.
Longshaw Estate
The 1.7 mile walking route around this National Trust estate skirts the upper end of Padley Gorge. Children love the stepping stones, though Longshaw is mostly all about the giant fallen trees, left in place for little hands and feet to delightfully climb over.
Higger Tor
A pile of giant rocks dominates Higger Tor. Walk through the nearby fields, then let the kids climb over hundreds of strangely smooth grey stones. The views out over the Hope Valley are great and impressive, and the rock pools in Burbage Brook are perfect for rowing in.
Stanage Edge
Popular with rock climbers, this stone cliff marks the boundary of the mysterious land of the Dark Peak cliff and the grass covered flat land of White Peak. It's a six miles circular walk from Hathersage. Alternatively, park at the Hollin Bank Car Park and climb half a mile to the top, out of breath.
Chatsworth House
A three mile circle from Calton Lees Car Park takes in a ruined factory, the pretty village of Edensor and views of Chatsworth House. Appreciate the stretch along the River Derwent—deer often hang out there.
Which walks are most suitable for children
A.Higger Tor and Stanage Edge. B.Longshaw Estate and Higger Tor. C.Padley Gorgey and Longshaw Estate. D.Stanage Edge and Chatsworth House.
During which walk are you likely to meet with animals
Padley Gorge. B.Stanage Edge. C.Longshaw Estate. D.Chatsworth House.
Whom is the passage intended for
Friends. B.Farmers. C.Families. D.Climbers.

“Time flies. Youth fades. Treasure each moment of your life,” accompanied by guitar and drums, the Band for One, made up of five people, sang the lyrics( 歌 词 ) soulfully during a performance in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, on November 7, 2020.
Behind the band, there was a picture of a young man named Philip Hancock shown on the screen. And he is the reason why they were all there. Hancock was a 27-year-old Australian who taught English in Chongqing. When he died in 2018 due to a disease, his parents followed his wishes and donated his organs(器官).
The five people introduced themselves on stage. They were the ones who received Philip's organs. “Last November, the Red Cross officials told me Philip's parents mentioned during an earlier memorial service that he loved music and dreamed of having his own band one day,” said Chen Xianjun, a recipient (接受者). Chen was instantly on board to form a band in memory of Philip, and so were the other four recipients.
Since they had no music experience, they had to start from scratch. From learning the guitar, to mastering the maracas and taking on the drums, they took time out of their busy lives to practice over the past year. Peter Hancock, Philip's father, said after watching the band's performance, his biggest wish is for the five to enjoy their lives more.
Organ donation is not only the best way to honor a loved one, but also a remarkable way to save the lives of others. China faces a serious shortage of organs, with about 300,000 people waiting for organ transplant surgeries each year. But the good news is, more and more people have been signing up to be organ donors, showing the spirit of selflessness that Philip and so many others have shown.
Why did the five people form the band
To compete in a singing performance.
To show their respect for Peter Hancock.
To raise money for the local Red Cross.
To express their appreciation to Philip.
How long did it take the recipients to prepare for the performance A.One year. B.Two years.
C.Three years. D.Five years.
What do the underlined words “start from scratch” in paragraph 4 mean
Lose interest in music.
Take part in training courses.
Turn to some musicians for help.
Practice from the very beginning.
What can we learn from the last paragraph
A.Citizens are encouraged to donate organs. B.Organ donation is the best way to save lives.
C.The author thinks highly of organ donation.
D.Few people are willing to donate their organs.

Killer whales(虎鲸), also known as orcas, are known for their severe attacks(攻击) on sea animals but they have never posed a threat to humans. However, since late July, the normally social animals have been intentionally attacking sailboats off the coasts of Spain and Portugal.
The strange behavior first surfaced on July 29, 2020, when a 46 foot boat was repeatedly attacked for almost an hour by nine orcas, causing the boat to rotate (旋转) 180 degrees and having its engine switched off. Since then, over 30 more similar incidents have been reported. On September 23, 2020, Spain's government banned boats of less than 50 feet in length from sailing in the 60 mile stretch of the Atlantic coastline between Ferrol and the Estaca de Bares Cape, where the attacks have been occurring.
Researchers across the world are trying to explain the orcas' behavior. Some believe it could be a result of the overfishing of the bluefin tuna—the orcas' primary food source—which has left the area's killer whales starving and unable to feed their babies. “I saw them look at boats carrying fish. I think they know humans are somehow related to food shortages,” says Ken Balcomb, senior scientist at the Center for Whale Research in Washington, USA. The environmentalists believe the sudden increase in boat traffic after months of absence due to restrictions on human activity last spring, could also be contributing to the agitation.
However, Alfredo López, a biology professor in Galicia, Spain, thinks the attacks are defensive measures the orcas took to protect themselves against boat injuries. The researcher came to this conclusion after looking at the videos of a few incidents and noticing that two of the young killer whales involved had serious injuries. Hopefully, the experts will be able to find a way to restore the harmony between the animals and the humans soon.
What do we know about orcas in paragraph 1
They are friendly to humans.
They have changed their behavior.
They are famous for hunting skills.
They have met tough living conditions.
Who hold(s) the idea that fishing activities caused the incidents
Ken Balcomb. B.The environmentalists.
C.Alfredo López. D.Spain's government.
What do the underlined words “the agitation” in paragraph 3 refer to A.The attacks. B.Food shortages.
C.The overfishing. D.Human activity.
What is the main idea of this passage
A.A disagreement between scientists.
Possible reasons why killer whales are attacking boats.
The results of the change of the behaviors of killer whales.
Spanish government’s effort of protecting the fishing boats.
D
For most of my life, I didn't like being seen. I went bright red when it was my turn to speak in a group. I hated the teacher asking me something. I even didn't like my family all looking at me! I often tried to hide away and avoid being seen by others! So, it's not strange that I feared speaking in front of others.
Luckily, I've learned to overcome my problem. Now I love helping others who have the same problem that I once had but want to speak up because they have valuable things to share. I particularly love helping entrepreneurs (企业家) to become more confident. When you help a leader, the impact is so much greater.
Over the years I've discovered that there are three main problems that people have when it comes to speaking in public. The first is a lack of self belief. They doubt themselves and question whether what they have to say is valuable. The second is a fear of being seen as arrogant (傲慢的). The third is a fear of rejection or a fear of not being liked.
All of these problems are related to mindset, specifically, a fear based mindset, which is common. These fears stop people from stepping up as the leader and influencer they were born to be.
If you want to become a more effective influencer, it is so important to work on any fears you have of judgment or rejection. They will be a ball and chain that will hold you back from success. We need to take action despite feeling fear. We can't wait for the fear to go away as it won't go away itself. We have to act while we still feel it. And to overcome fears, we should practice. Confidence is attached to progress, and we only progress if we practice. If you don't feel you're progressing, you'll start to lose your confidence and stay stuck in fear.
What does the author like doing now
A.Giving speeches in front of people. B.Sharing experiences with her followers.
C.Making friends with famous entrepreneurs.
D.Helping others gain confidence in speaking in public.
What can we learn about the problems that prevent people from talking publicly according to the author
They are very difficult to overcome.
They lead to a very uncommon mindset.
They exist mainly because of people's fears.
They are no problem for leaders or influencers.
What does the author suggest people do
Wait for the fear to disappear. B.Avoid failure to become more confident.
C.Refuse judgment or rejection from others.
D.Practice hard to make progress in spite of fears.
What can be the best title for the text A.Finding the Courage Inside You B.Becoming a more Influential Person
C.Overcoming the Fear of Public Speaking D.Expressing Your Ideas more Effectively
第二节 (共 5 小题;每小题 2 分,满分 10 分)
根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Lacking chances to practise English Thinking in English can bring you a huge step closer to fluency! It is not very difficult. 16. Today, we will share some mental exercises with you.
A good first step is to think in individual words. Look around you. What do you see
17. As you continue with this, it becomes a habit. Things are going to flash into your head—computer, telephone, chair, desk, etc., whatever it is and wherever you are. 18. For example, if you couldn't think of the word “garage”, you can say in your mind, “The place inside which I put my car” or “It's next to my house. I keep things there”.
The next exercise is thinking in simple sentences. For example, when sitting in a park, you can tell yourself things like, “It's such a beautiful day” and “People are playing”. 19. You can also practise describing your daily activities. As beginning level learners, you can describe the day using the simple present verb form, like “I put on my shirt” and “He drives the bus”. You can also mentally make plans in the morning or list things you've done before going to bed. 20. So the skill level is a little higher.
When you are practising it every day, over and over again, little by little, you are thinking in English.
But it takes effort and practice.
It is extremely easy to understand.
This would require other verb tenses.
At some points, you will need a dictionary.
Try to name each object in your surroundings.
Then describe objects you don't know the words for.
Once this becomes easy, you can move on to more difficult sentences.

W: 10So what should people do to make their visit to New York safe and pleasant
M: Don’t try to do too much in a short time. That’s very important. 11You should start planning
before you get here. You ought to decide beforehand which places you most want to visit.
W: Are there any good tours available
M: Yes. There are many. Some companies offer bus tours that stop at all the tourist attractions.
You can buy a bus pass. And you should visit our website to find out about the latest tours.
W: I see. And is New York a safe city for visitors
M: It’s safer than many cities in the world. But you should still be careful. For example, don’t go
out on your own at night. 12And never carry much money on you. Oh, and don’t be afraid to
ask strangers questions. New Yorkers are actually friendly. They are happy to give directions.

W: Hello, Mr. Brown This is Mrs. Green speaking.
M: Oh, Mrs. Green, good morning. Is anything the matter 13Why haven’t you arrived yet
W: I’m really sorry, Mr. Brown. 13 14 I’m driving to your office now, 15but it will be
impossible to get there by ten o’clock.
M: Why
W: There has been an accident between a bus and a taxi on the road. The police are dealing with
it, but it’s causing a big traffic jam. 16 I’m just ringing you to apologize.
M: Too bad. Where are you now
W: I’m near the Amazon Bookstore.
M: When do you think you can arrive
W: It may take an hour, so I can be there at about 10:30. 16 I’m really sorry.
M: That’s all right, Mrs. Green. Take it easy.
W: Thank you, Mr. Brown. Bye.
M: See you later!

W: I’m Lee Minwoo from South Korea. 17When I was little I was very interested in English. I
learned English at school. There was a good teacher who was not a native English speaker. He
taught French and German, but he really spoke English quite well. It was funny because I was the
only student in his class — it was really a private lesson. I had an excellent coursebook. I still keep
a copy of it. The front cover was red with a lovely picture, and 18 it was very modern. Learning
English was quite easy for me because the teacher was so good and he helped a lot. Also, 20 I’m
quite good at learning languages. 19 It was really enjoyable to have classes. I loved the sound
of the words. I felt really proud when my spelling improved day by day and I could read a short
story. In middle school, English was still my favorite subject. I even stayed in America for one year
as an exchange student. I learned a lot there, not only English but different cultures.
