第一节(共15小题:每小题2分,满分30分)
阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中选出最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。
A
Elephant Conservation
Country: Thailand
This is a working vacation at a wildlife centre. Anyone can become a volunteer if he/she agrees to help the elephant keepers with tasks.
Daily tasks
Gather the elephants at 6:30 a.m. Take them to look for food in the forest. Clean the enclosure. Swim with the elephants in the lake in the afternoon. If volunteers want to relax after work, they can watch satellite television.
How this vacation helps
If these elephants hadn’t been rescued, they would still be living on the streets of Bangkok. A rural environment is much better for them than an urban environment where there is lots of pollution.
Gorilla Safari
Countries: Kenya, Rwanda, Uganda
Departures: Aug.—Dec., 2—3 departures per month
Extra: gorilla permit £220
If you’re lucky, you’ll see lions, elephants and rhinos on safari. The highlight of the trip is the opportunity to see gorillas in the mountain forests. However, you must be in good health—if a gorilla caught a cold, it would be extremely harmful to its whole family.
How this vacation helps
There are only about 600 mountain gorillas left in the world as human activities have reduced the area where they can live. When you buy a permit, this will pay for the protection of the national park.
Polar Bear Watching
Country: Canada
Departures: sixty trips between Oct. 1—Nov. 19
Every October and November, groups of polar bears gather in Hudson Bay. As they are normally lonely creatures, this is unusual. The bears wait for the ocean to freeze so that they can hunt seals, so this is the perfect opportunity to see them.
How this vacation helps
If the Arctic ice cap melts due to global warming, polar bears will be in danger. We give a share of our profits to the Polar Bears Alive Charity.
Your comment
These awesome bears get all the liquid they need from their food.

B.Watch satellite television on elephants.

D.You might get a cold in the mountain forests.
23.What can we infer from the passage
A.All three activities need pay money.

We all know about the health benefits of swimming. It offers a great workout for the body—it builds endurance, muscle strength and cardiovascular fitness. If you don't mind getting wet, it can be fun too. But who would enjoy swimming in water that is ice cold. Well, many people are taking the plunge, based on evidence that it can actually be good for us.
Cold-water swimming—sometimes called wild swimming—involves swimming in natural areas including ponds, rivers and the sea. Jumping in gives a short sharp shock to the body, but many participants say they get used to it. A cold dip might wake you up, but research has found it can have much bigger benefits than that for your body and mind. As well as being good exercise, spending time outdoors and by water improves wellbeing.
There is much evidence, mostly anecdotal, that suggests cold-water swimming has cured certain health conditions. One man who suffered constant pain after surgery claimed he was cured by taking a plunge in cold open water. And another swimmer, Sandria Simons, told the BBC “the immersion of your body in cold, salt water, just feeling like you're at one with nature if you like, just feels amazing. ”
But what is it that people are gaining from this chilly experience Doctors say getting into cold water evokes a stress response, but the more you do it, your reaction to stress is reduced. It's also thought to have a strong anti-inflammatory effect. But there are bigger benefits to this stress-reducing exercise. Some experts believe cold-water swimming helps 'cross-adaptation', where one form of stress prepares the body for another. For example it also helps reduce the stress of exercising at high altitude.
So, if you're convinced that this is for you, take advice: approach it with caution, swim with a friend, and maybe start in the summer, when the water temperatures are higher!

26.What is Sandria Simons' opinion about cold-water swimming
A.It brings you close to nature. B.It cures certain health conditions.
C.It has cross-adaptation effects. D.It's a great physical exercise.
27.What is the author's advice
A.Start at an early age. B.Do it immediately.
C.Adapt first in cold water. D.Safety comes first.

More than two-thirds of adults in the United States are overweight and half of them are trying to lose weight. According to a recent study, led by Evan Forman, a psychology professor from Drexel University, a smartphone app called OnTrack can predict ahead of time when users are likely to give up their weight loss plans and help them stay on track.
People on weight loss plans often experience difficulties, which can prevent successful weight loss or even lead to weight regain, according to Forman. The study evaluated the effectiveness of the app among weight loss program participants and individuals(个人)attempting to follow an online weight management plan from Weight Watchers for eight weeks.
OnTrack uses advanced statistical methods — machine learning —to learn over time a user’s individual patterns of eating. Specifically, it learns patterns that are predictive of staying on one’s weight loss plan and patterns that are predictive of giving up one's plan. When the app detects the risk of giving up is high, it sends a special coaching message that matches the reasons someone is at risk. For example, the app can predict a person is eating late at night because of being bored at home with tempting(诱人的)food. The predictions get better over time as the app learns a user s behavioral patterns.
According to Forman, over the course of the study, participants averaged a 3.13 percent weight loss and reduction in unplanned giving up.
The next step is a clinical test to confirm the app's ability as a weight loss tool.
28.What is OnTrack used to do
A.To plan a route for its users.
B.To keep track of phones.
C.To predict possible mental diseases.
D.To remind people to keep dieting.
29.What is Paragraph 3 mainly about
A.The main patterns of healthy eating.
B.The basic principles of OnTrack.
C.The development of machine learning.
D.The importance of weight loss plans.
30.Which of the following would Forman agree with
A.OnTrack is a clinically proven weight loss tool.
B.OnTrack does very well in predicting.
C.OnTrack may be double-edged.
D.OnTrack is popular among young people.
31.Why does the author write the text
A.To introduce a smartphone app.
B.To analyze what leads to the failure of weight loss.
C.To encourage people to keep fit.
D.To give tips on losing weight.

Today, we are talking about money. I can share a bit about my history with money and my new view when it comes to using green paper.
I made a web page with links to posts about our financial (财政的) journey where you can look for more details of where we've been and how we got where we are now. It was a big part of my story in the past and was a huge part of our downsizing(精简) journey. We got out of debt and stayed out of debt.
So I feel eager(渴望的)to share the benefits of being on this side. It takes more planning and more careful thought whenever a dollar is spent now than it did when I had a wallet full of credit cards. I now like to think all of my dollars doing the job. So many of us work for money and don't consider that money should work for us, too. Make your dollars do the job of helping you live the life you want.
Each time money is spent or saved, it should be going toward something that you purposefully want for your life. Last week I was out and I spent $ 20 on food in 3 days. It made me angry because afterward I thought about eating is not at all what I want for my life.
On the other hand, there are times I spend $ 20 while out with my family and it doesn't bother(使烦恼)me one bit. An afternoon out with my kids during which we stop for ice cream, and do something fun together has a completely different feel.
In the end, I want the dollars I spend to have purpose like I can enjoy life while still planning and saving for the future.
32.The underlined words “green paper” in Paragraph 1 refer to“________”.
A.money B.work C.newspaper D.book
33.You can learn about the writer's history with money________.
A.by reading posts about their financial journey
B.by going on a financial journey
C.by making a web page
D.by writing to him
34.In the writer's opinion,________.
A.more credit cards should be used in our daily life
B.we should work hard to make more money
C.money should help us live better
D.saving money is very easy
35.Why does the writer feel happy with the money spent with his family
A.Because the money is spent on food.
B.Because the money is spent in doing something fun.
C.Because eating is what he wants for his life.
D.Because the money goes toward something that he wants for his life.
第二节 (共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)

With the development of our economy, the environment is worrying in my hometown. There are a lot of problems like natural disasters, global warming, pollution and so on. It is mainly because of people’s behaviors.
It is high time for us to take some effective measures. First, our government should do something to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Besides, we should form a habit of saving energy such as turning off the tap after it is used, using public transportation and recycling the waste. In addition, we can plant trees to beauty our hometown.
Protecting the environment is a duty for everyone. Let’s spare no effort to make contributions to protecting the environment of our hometown.
