定语从句是指在复合句中修饰某一名词或代词的从句。
被定语从句修饰的名词或代词叫先行词。
用来引导定语从句的词叫关系词。
定语从句
eg: I like music that can help me relax.
先行词
关系代词

主句
music是先行词,
that是关系代词,在定语从句中作主语。
I like music 是主句部分,
that can help me relax 是定语从句部分。
关系词的作用:
1.引导定语从句;
2.在从句中替代先行词,在定语从句中充当一定的成分,通常是主语或宾语,作宾语时常可以省略。
定语从句的结构:
先行词+关系词(that/which/who)+从句

定语从句关系词分为关系代词(that, which, who, whom, whose)和关系副词(when, where, why)。
本课我们主要介绍关系代词的用法。

在先行词是物的定语从句中,一般情况下that
和which都可以通用, 但在下列情况下, 一般
that而不用which。

1.先行词为all, everything, nothing, something, anything, little, much等不定代词时;
that 与 which 的区别
I’ve read all the books that are not mine.
2. 先行词被all, little, much, every, no 等修饰时;
3. 先行词被序数词或最高级修饰时;
This is the first book that he has read.
This is the very book that belongs to him.
4. 先行词被the only, the very, the same,
the last修饰时;
5. 先行词为人和物的组合;

6. 若主句中有疑问代词who或者which,
为了避免重复, 关系代词不要再用who,
which,而用that。
关系代词在定语从句中作主语时,从句中的谓语动词要与先行词的数保持一致。
