三.阅读理解 (10)
Different weather makes people feel different. It influences people's heath, intelligence and feelings.
In August, it is very hot and wet in the southern part of America. People there have heart trouble and other kinds of health problems in this month. In the Northeast and the Middle West, it is very hot at times and very cold at other times. People in these states have more heart trouble after the weather changes in February or March.
The weather can also influence intelligence. For example, in a 1983 report by scientists, the IQs of a group of students were very high when a very strong wind came, but after the strong wind, their IQs were 10% lower. The wind can help people have higher intelligence. Very hot weather, on the other hand, can make it lower. Students in many schools of the United States often get worse on exams in the hot months of the year (July and August).
Weather also has a strong influence on people's feelings. Winter may be a bad time for thin people. They usually feel cold in these months. They might feel unhappy in cold weather. But fat people may have a hard time in hot summer. At about 18℃ people become stronger.
Low air pressure may make people forgetful. People leave more bags on buses and in shops on low-air-pressure days. There is a “good weather" for intelligence and health. People feel best at a temperature of about 18℃ .
Are you feeling sad, tired, forgetful, or unhappy today It may be the weather's problem.

五.任务型阅读 (15)
If your math teacher assigns(分派) five problems, you should do six. If your Chinese teacher assigns eight pages of reading, you should read nine. The more you practice, the more you learn.
Studying is a matter of personal preference(偏爱), so choose the way you are most comfortable with. Some people like working at night when the house is quiet, while others like doing their work early in the morning. Still others like studying as soon as they arrive home from school while the work is fresh in their minds. No matter which way you use, try to do your best.
Studying is your business and business comes before playing. When you are studying, phone calls should go unanswered, TV shows unwatched, snacks uneaten. Studying is the only thing in your mind. Nothing can pull you away from what you are studying.
Studying is like eating. You chew(咀嚼)it one bite at a time. You can plan what to do today, but don’t do too much. When you can’t finish the work you planned to do, you may lose confidence. On the other hand, you will not study well if you have no good plan. So plan your time well.
The students who hand in(上交) a clearly written paper is already half way to an A. Neat(工整的) papers may get higher marks than sloppy(潦草的) ones. If you are neater and more careful when doing your work, the thoughts in your mind are clearer and you are able to make fewer mistakes.

At the age of six, while I 3 (eat) a big apple, I dropped a tooth,I was so afraid that I cried all of a sudden and rushed to my grandma’s room. She held the tooth and smiled, “Don’t worry, dear. It’s a baby tooth. You will have a new tooth 4 a few months.”
“A new tooth ” I felt very 5__ (surprise).
“Yes, you will have that tooth 6 you get old, so you must protect your new tooth well. When you grow old, the teeth will fall out again, but this time, it won’t grow again. So it’s not easy for old people to eat anything,” grandma said.
I went out of grandma’s room and thought, “Where should I put the dropped tooth ”
7 (Sudden), a wonderful thought came into my mind:Why not plant it in the ground If I took good care of it, day after day, maybe it would become a big tree. When spring came, there would be many white and strong teeth 8 the tree. I could pick them and send them to the old people who needed them.So then they could eat well and always open their mouths with a smile 9 (fill) with beautiful teeth.
Of course my tooth didn’t grow into a big tree, but beautiful thoughts 10 (make)my childhood warm and unforgettable. With them, I grew up.
