Making new friends can be challenging for some people, but it's definitely rewarding. ___16___. They are the ones who walk through life together, share our ups and downs, and pains and joys. If you take a look at the people who seem to make friends easily, you may find that their social skills were likely all picked up over time. For this same reason, you can learn to become more sociable through time and practice. Here are my personal tips to get new friends:
Realize your fear is in your head
The first step is to develop a healthy mental image of meeting new people. Some of us see meeting new people as a scary event. We are concerned about making a good impression. The more we think about it, the scarier it seems. ___17___. Therefore, there is no need to worry about them.
___18___
Don’t change yourself to make new friends. That’s the worst thing you can do. Just be yourself. That way, potential new friends will know you as you, and they’ll use that to decide if they want to take the friendship a step further. It’s all about being you. The truest friendships are built with both parties accepting each other for who they are.
Be there for them
A friendship is a supportive union between two people. Be there for your friends where you can. When you help your friends, don’t do so with the expectation of being helped next time. ___19___. I find that the satisfaction I get from helping others and knowing they are better off is a reward greater than anything I can get in return.
Make the effort to stay in touch
Continual effort is required to maintain the friendship. Ask your friends out every once in a while. ___20___. For some of my best friends, we meet only once every few months. Yet, there’s never any doubt that we’re closely connected and we will be there for each other when needed.
A Be yourself
B. Change yourself
C. Instead, help unconditionally
D. You can learn a lot from a good friend
E. Actually, all these fears are just in our heads
F. After all, friends form a big part of our life for most of us
G. The strength of your relationship is not measured by how frequently you meet

Let kids make mistakes.

Different Cultures
The cultures of the East and the West really distinguish themselves from each other a lot. ___16___.
The origin of the Eastern culture is mainly from two countries:China and India. Both of the two cultures are developed by rivers — the Yellow River in China and the Indus River in India. ___17___
When the two mother rivers gave birth to the Eastern culture, another famous culture was brought up on the Mesopotamian plain(美索不达米亚平原)一the Mesopotamian Civilization. This civilization later on developed into the cultures of Ancient Rome and Ancient Greek.___18___ Like the Chinese culture, the European culture also crossed waters. When the British settled down in America, their culture went with them over the Atlantic Ocean. So the American culture doesn't distinguish itself from the European culture a lot.
___19___ Take the language system for example. In the East, most languages belong to the pictographic language while the Western languages are mostly based on the Latin system. Other causes like human race differences count as well. But what's more, due to the far distance and the steep areas between the East and the West, the two cultures seldom communicate until recent centuries. So they grew up totally in their own ways with almost no interference(干预)from the other.
The differences are everywhere. ___20___ But different cultures make the world in the 21st century more varied. The cultural gap should not be the obstacle to the civilization of human beings. It ought to be the motivation for our going farther.
A. Let us work together to keep a variety of cultures.
B. One important thing is to learn about the other's culture.
C. And these two are well-known as the base of the European culture.
D. This is because the culture systems are two separate systems on the whole.
E. They helped the two cultures develop for centuries and form their own styles.
F. They are obvious and affect people's ways of thinking and their views of the world.
G. At the same time, some other differences add to the cultural differences.

F 17. E 18. A 19. C 20. G
根据空前“Making new friends can be challenging for some people, but it's definitely rewarding.”(结交新朋友对有些人来说是一项挑战,但绝对是值得的。) 以及空后“They are the ones who walk through life together, share our ups and downs, and pains and joys.”(他们是一起走过人生的人,分享我们的起起落落,痛苦和快乐。),可知,they指代F项的friends ,所以F项“After all, friends form a big part of our life for most of us”(毕竟,对我们大多数人来说,朋友是我们生活中很重要的一部分)符合上下文语境。故选F。
根据空前“The more we think about it, the scarier it seems.”(我们越想它,它看起来就越可怕。) 以及空后“Therefore, there is no need to worry about them.”(因此,没有必要担心他们。) 所以E项“Actually, all these fears are just in our heads”(事实上,所有这些恐惧都只是我们的臆想)符合上下文语境。故选E。
根据空处是一个小标题的位置,以及下文“Don’t change yourself to make new friends. ”(不要为了结交新朋友而改变自己。),可知,这里建议我们要做自己。所以A项“Be yourself”(做自己)符合上下文语境。故选A。
根据空前“When you help your friends, don’t do so with the expectation of being helped next time. ”(当你帮助你的朋友时,不要指望下次会得到帮助。)选项C与前一句构成转折关系。以及空后“I find that the satisfaction I get from helping others and knowing they are better off is a reward greater than anything I can get in return.”(我发现我从帮助别人和知道他们过得更好中得到的满足感是比我能得到的任何回报都更大的回报。)
根据空前“Continual effort is required to maintain the friendship. Ask your friends out every once in a while. ”(维持友谊需要不断的努力。每隔一段时间约你的朋友出去玩。)这里建议和朋友多聚一聚。以及空后“For some of my best friends, we meet only once every few months.”(我的一些最好的朋友,我们几个月才见一次面。) 所以G项“The strength of your relationship is not measured by how frequently you meet”(你们关系的强度不是用你们见面的频率来衡量的)符合上下文语境。故选G。
