Then, an OIC representative gave us some details, which somewhat interested me. Living the light life
Many of us like to dine out and treat ourselves to delicious food. We are used to choosing hearty, fat-filled dishes and sugar-charged desserts, which are not easily cooked at home.
The recent rise of light meals, however, gives dine smarter choice. According to Economic Daily, low-calorie, low-fat and high-fiber meals have become popular in China’s restaurants and online delivery platforms.
The country saw a rapid expansion of restaurants specializing in light meals, from just 600 in 2017 to more than 3,500 in 2018. According to a report released by Meituan, a major online food delivery platform, the number of light meals ordered online also rose 75 percent from the previous year.
Having a light meal, however, doesn’t mean eating only vegetables. Different from the meat-free lifestyle, a typical light dish avoids oily, salty and spicy food. Instead, it contains things like boiled meat, whole grains, fruits and vegetables. Healthy nutrients are the theme of the light meal.
“These dishes are useful for keeping healthy and controlling your weight. That’s probably why so many young people, especially millennials (千禧一代), are into them.Diners see it as a great way to avoid bloating (变胖),” wrote the Telegraph.
“After eating several light meals, I felt my appetite (胃口) has shrunk. I now prefer light flavors,” Zou Jing, a college teacher in Wuhan, told China Daily. She shared a picture of her lunch: a mixture of beef, eggs, corn, mushrooms and cherry tomatoes.
These changes in eating behavior are connected to deeper changes in how people think about food, says Walter Willett, chair of the nutrition department at the Harvard T. Chan School of Public Health, US. “Diet quality, not quantity is important for both weight control and long-term well-being,” Willett told The New York Times.

My First Marathon
A month before my first marathon, one of my ankles was injured and this meant not running for two weeks, leaving me only two weeks to train. Vet, I was determined to go ahead.
I remember back to my 7th year in school. In my first P. E. class, the teacher required us to run laps and then hit a softball. I didn't do either well. He later informed me that I was "not athletic".
The idea that I was “not athletic*' stuck with me for years. When I started running in my 30s, I realized running was a battle against myself, not about competition or whether or not I was athletic. it was all about the battle against my own body and mind. A test of will!
The night before my marathon, 1 dreamt that I couldn't even find the finish line. I woke up sweating and nervous, but ready to prove something to myself.
Shortly after crossing the start line, my shoe laces(鞋带)became untied. So I stopped to readjust. Not the start I wanted!
At mile 3, I passed a sign: "GO FOR IT, RUNNERS!"
By mile 17, I became out of breath and the once injured ankle hurt badly. Despite the pain. I stayed the course walking a bit and then running again.
By mile 21, I was starving!
As I approached mile 23, I could see my wife waving a sign. She is my biggest fan.
She never minded the alarm clock sounding at 4 a. m. or questioned my expenses on running.
I was one of the final runners to finish. But I finished! And I got a medal. In fact. I got the same medal as the one that the guy who came in first place had.

China is recognized as a world leader in the development of artificial intelligence and facial recognition systems. A Chinese company says it has created a new facial recognition system that can identify people even if they are wearing masks. Engineers at the Beijing-based company say their system is the first to be created to effectively identify people wearing face masks.
The company told a news agency that a team of 20 people built the system in about a month. The system is based on existing technologies developed over the past 10 years. The process involved adding a collection of about 6 million unmasked faces and a much smaller collection of masked faces, the company said.
The company is now selling two main kinds of products that use the new technology. One performs “single channel” recognition, which is designed to be used at the entrances to buildings.
The other product is a “multi-channel" recognition system that uses groups of surveillance (监视)cameras. It can identify individuals in a crowd of up to 30 people within a second.
“ When people are wearing a mask that covers the mouth and the nose, the recognition rate can reach about 95%, which can ensure that most people can be identified, " said Huang, vice president of the company. He added that the system's success rate for people not wearing a mask is about 99. 5%.
However; the new system struggles to identify people wearing both a mask and sunglasses. In this situation, all of the key facial information is lost. In such cases recognition is tough, " Huang said.

Bowhead whales(弓头鲸)can live 200 years or longer. How they do it is no longer among the secrets of the deep.
Scientists have mapped the genetic code of this long lived whale species. The international effort found unusual features in the Arctic whale's genes. Those features likely protect the species against cancer and other problems related to old age. The researchers hope their findings will one day translate into ways to help people too.
"We hope to learn what is the secret of bowhead whales living longer, healthier lives," says Joao Pedru de Magalhes. He is a gerontologist at the University of Liverpool in England. (Gerontology is the scientific study of old age. ) He is also a co-author of the study that appeared in Cell Reports. His team hopes, he says, that its mew findings might one day be used to improve human health and preserve human life.
No other mammals are known to live as long as the bowhead whales Scientists have shown that some of these whales have lived well beyond 100—including one that survived to 216. For perspective(不妨看看), if he were still alive, Abraham Lincoln would be turning just 211 this year.
Dr. Magalh es' team wanted to understand how the bowhead can live so long. To find out this, the experts analyzed the animal's complete set of genes, called its genome (基因组). Those instructions are coded in the animal's DNA. The team also compared the whale's genome to that of people, mice and cows.
The scientists discovered differences, including mutations(变异), in the whale's genes. Those changes are linked to cancer, aging and cell growth. The results suggest that the whales are better than humans at repairing their DNA. That's important because damaged or flawed DNA can lead to disease, including some cancers.
Bowhead whales are also better at keeping abnormally dividing cells in check. Together, the changes appear to allow bowhead whales to live longer without developing age related diseases such as cancer, said Magalh es.

"Lack is a matter of preparation meeting opportunity, " said the American talk show host Oprah Winfrey. I've never watched her show, but when a self-made billionaire gives life advice it's probably worth listening to.
Her point is that blind luck is very rare. You may have to be lucky to find a good job these days but that does not mean you should sit at home waiting for the opportunity to come to you. If you're a Chinese, you may already be familiar with the tale of a farmer waiting by a tree stump (树桩) for a rabbit to run out and break its neck.
A book by the UK psychologist Richard Wiseman, called The Luck Factor, argues we can all make ourselves luckier. It's mot about going to a temple to burn some incense(香)in hopes that the gods will give you good fortune, but practical advice you can follow each day.
Wiseman conducted an experiment as part of his studies, First he divided volunteers into two groups: those who said they were lucky in life and those who said they were not. He gave everyone a newspaper and asked them to look through it to count how many photographs it had inside. On average, the unlucky people took about two minutes to count the photographs while the lucky people took just seconds. Why On the second page of the newspaper, a command, “Stop counting. There are 43 photographs in this newspaper, “was written in big letters. The unlucky people mostly did not spot the message.
It's easy to compare this situation to a young person looking for jobs in a local paper. They might search se hard for one type of position that they miss an even better opportunity. People who are "lucky", in fact, keep an open mind and don't go through the same routine every day.
In a word, try to turn bad luck into good. Even if you do fall down and break a leg, the time spent at home can be used wisely to study English.
61. Which of the followings most agrees with the writer's point
A. Success is for those who are prepared.

C. All is not gold that shines.
D. A good heart defeats ill fortune.

C. She is a British talk show host.
D. She became successful by her own effort.
63. The writer quoted the Chinese tale of a farmer in order to show _____________.
A. man can defeat mature B. luck is your own hand
C. bad luck can turn into good D. sever waiting for the chance to come
64. From the experiment Wiseman drew the conclusion that __________________
A. lucky people are quick-minded
B. unlucky people are slow to read
C. lucky people often have an open mind
D. unlucky people are more creative
65. The underlined word "spot" is the closest in meaning to "________________".
