The Amber Room was designed for the palace of Frederick I at first. Its design, which was in the fancy style, amazed a number of tourists in those days. Decorated with gold and jewels, it was also considered as a treasure.
However, Fredrick William I gave it as a gift to Peter the Great in 1716 and the Czar, in return, sent him a troop of the best soldiers. At that time, the room served as a small reception hall. Later, it belonged to Catherine II, who had it moved and had more details added to it. There’s no doubt that the room became one of the wonders in the world. Sadly, it was in 1941 when Russia and Germany were at war that the room was stolen and removed by the Nazis. After that, what happened to it remains a mystery. Recently, a new Amber Room has been built at the summer palace in Russia.
