As Yan became a hit, people would make a comparison between Yan and another well-known player, Ding Junhui. Yan said "Ding is a legend for China. It would be so hard for anyone to achieve more than he did for the modern young players. All I can do is to be the best Yan Bingtao. "

In 2020, many robots took up jobs, giving both humans and animals a helping hand. A hospital ward(病区)treating coronavirus(冠状病毒)patients in Wuhan, China, was run by robots. The robots looked after patients who had the disease very mildly, giving out food and keeping the hospital clean. This reduced the risk of doctors and nurses catching the disease. If a patient fell more seriously ill they were sent to a human-run part of the hospital for more treatment.
In May, a robot dog forced people to follow social-distancing rules to stop the spread of coronavirus in Singapore. Spot, made by US company Boston Dynamics, went round Singapore's Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park to check that people kept at least one metre apart from each other.
In June, a teenager in New Zealand won a national science award for inventing a robot that can take out the bins(垃圾箱)for elderly and disabled people. Thomas James, who is 17 years old, came up with his great idea after an elderly neighbour was told by a doctor not to take out her bin in case she fell over. The smart machine took the teenager two years to design and build, using Lego models to test his early ideas.
Over summer, a super-cute SlothBot was tested at the Atlanta Botanical Garden in the US. Designed by researchers at the Georgia Institute of Technology, the animal-like robot is powered by sunlight and moves slowly between trees, collecting information around it. The SlothBot's inventor, Professor Magnus Egerstedt, came up with the idea after observing sloths(树懒)in Costa Rica. Researchers hope that the solar-powered robot will help protect endangered forest species in the wild.
28. About robots in a hospital wart in Wuhan, which is NOT true

A. The robots are likely to be used in wild forest species protection.
B. The robot is powered by sunlight and runs quickly under the trees.

D. Researchers used Lego models to test their ideas.

Life seems long when we're looking ahead, and so short when we're looking back. That's especially true for a mother. One day you're holding a two-month-old baby, wondering if he's ever going to stop crying. And the next day you're seeing him off at college, wondering if he's ever going to call you.
Where does the time fly I want my children to grow up, but I didn't want to let them go. The grown children can be as much fun as little ones. Here are two examples:
When my father-in-law died, I called my younger son Nate to say Id drive up to Yosemite, and we'd drive out the next day to attend the funeral. It was snowing when I stopped in the park. The next morning, Nate and I left early, only to get stuck behind a bus with a flat tyre, blocking the road. We sat for five hours in a blizzard(暴风雪)waiting for the road to be cleared. Meanwhile, Nate entertained me with jokes. I will never forget it.
A few years later, I flew to New York to visit my elder son Josh. That night, Josh began having pain in his right side. We took a cab to a hospital and he had an operation. Afterwards, I stayed for a week to take care of him. We watched movies and ate take-out meals. I will never forget it.
Being a mother doesn't end when our children grow up. We still want to protect them, just as we did the day they were born. They won't need us in the same ways they did when they were little. Grown children will always need a mother. At the same time, well always need our grown-up children to make us laugh and keep us young and fill that place in our heart that only they can fill.
32. Why does the author feel that life is both long and short
A. Because she wants to express that time goes by very quickly.
B. Because she wants to show how hard it is for a mom to raise a child.
C. Because she wants to explain grown children are different from the little children.
D. Because she wants to describe the author's anxiety when her children left home.
33. What does the underlined word "block" in paragraph 3 mean
A. protect B. widen C. stop D. surround
34. Why does the author mention her stay with Nate and Josh
A. To describe the differences between her two sons.
B. To tell us how to communicate with different children.
C. To show grown children are wiser than little ones.
D. To prove both the grown and the little children are fun.
35. What does the author want to tell us from this article
A. Grown children want independence instead of protection.
B. Communication is important for a mom and her children.
C. A mother's love is selfless and forever.
D. A mother and her children will always need each other.

It all started because Lynn and her two teenage children needed to get from Georgia to Alaska, where Lynn’s husband, an American officer, is stationed (驻扎). Lynn packed up all their belongings, bought a 4x4 truck, and started a cross-country family adventure. The first 3,000 miles of the trip went well.
The farther north they traveled, the worse the weather got. Lynn, who was raised in the South, met her first winter white-out conditions. Then she used up windscreen wiping fluid. Slush (雪泥) covered her windows and she couldn’t see to drive. Even scarier — her tires seemed to be sliding on the ground.
After changing the summer tires at a tire store, Lynn decided to give up driving. She phoned her husband and asked if he could just come and get them where they were. Her husband was worried but he wasn’t legally able to get them himself. Then the family had to find a motel and went to bed. That’s when the kind people there put out a request on Facebook for someone to drive them the last 1,056 miles to the border.
Gary Bath was at home when he saw his friend’s post about the trapped family. After watching the post for a while and seeing no one was able to help, he and his wife made the decision that he would drive them the whole way to the border.
Both families met over the Internet, and when they decided they were all comfortable with the plan, the Baths drove to meet the family at the motel. It took Gary two days to drive them to a border checkpoint (边防关卡) where the family was greeted by Lynn’s husband and the new friends parted ways.

What do you want to be when you are growing up A doctor, an engineer — or maybe a footballer or actor We all have big plans for our futures and believe there is a dream job waiting for us — one that will pay well and give great job satisfaction. But how realistic is that
Today, in the UK at least, young people are being warned that some of their career hopes and dreams don’t match the types of jobs available. Research by the charity Education and Employers suggests five times as many 17 and 18 year-olds in the UK want to work in art, culture, entertainment and sport than there are jobs.
The excitement of working in these employment sectors (部门) is obviously an attraction. But those looking for these types of job will be disappointed. That’s what the report, Disconnected: Career ambitions and jobs in the UK, says. Writing about this for the BBC, Katherine Sellgren points out that although young people are keen to work in art, entertainment, culture and sport, the economy is unlikely to need them all. At the same time, there is a shortfall of young people wanting to work in careers such as catering and retail(零售).
Previous research about the career ambitions of young people by the Office for National Statistics also found a “reality gap” between their dreams and the sometimes disappointing truth by the time they reached their early to late-20s. Apart from those who aimed to go into teaching, fewer than one in 50 were in the jobs they had wanted — such as a doctor, vet, firefighter or actor. Most were working as sales assistants, careers or in sales and marketing.
Although it’s good to have ambitions, the aims of young people need to be realistic. This latest report suggests that children need to be made more aware of a wider variety of occupations at a younger age. It also calls for improved career advice in secondary schools. A spokeswoman for the Department for Work and Pensions told the BBC that “early careers advice can help young people set out on the right path to the job that channels their interests and unlocks their potential.”
28. Which employment sector in the UK needs more people to work in
A. Sport. B. Service industry.
C. Art & culture. D. Entertainment.
29. The underlined phrase “ reality gap ” in Paragraph 4 refers to the difference between .
A. ambition and reality B. males and females
C. theory and practice D. the past and the present
30. What suggestions about employment are NOT given to help young people
A. They ought to be offered better career advice in secondary schools.
B. They should know more kinds of jobs at an early age.
C. The government should create more jobs for the young.
D. Their employment ambition should be realistic.
31. What can be a suitable title for the text
A. Unemployment Problems in Britain
B. Young People’s Lifestyles in Britain
C. Tips for Finding Dream Jobs in Britain
D. Unrealistic Career Ambitions in Britain

New observations of the Moon show that lunar water may be more accessible than originally thought. The new data is particularly exciting for NASA, which hopes to make use of the Moon’s resources — especially water ice existing in the soil — to help future astronauts live and work on the lunar surface.
In one study, researchers discovered water directly on the lunar surface, finding the molecule(分子) on areas of the Moon lighted by the Sun. A second study speculates (推测)that water ice might be trapped in tiny areas or small holes spread all over the Moon’s surface, making water more abundant (大量的) and more accessible than we could have imagined. The two studies were published in the journal Nature.
This isn’t the first time water has been discovered on the Moon. But the only water we’ve been able to find until now is really difficult to reach. It seems to be primarily located in large holes at the lunar south pole that are in continuous shadow. The freezing holes are dangerously cold — possibly reaching -400 ℉ — making them almost impossible to access with modern technology.
The research published today raises the possibility that astronauts can find water in other areas of the Moon that are far less deadly. “If we find that it’s abundant enough in certain locations, it would be easier to access versus going into these very cold, very dark places,” Casey Honniball, an expert at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center and lead author on one of the studies, tells The Verge.
It seems to be good news for NASA. But there are still a lot of unknowns related to this research. Though the first study discovered water, the researchers didn’t find a lot. Besides, if the water is existing in the lunar dirt as expected, it’s going to take a lot of work to get it. “The method to get that water would be to melt the glass, so that the water can be released,” Honniball says. “This is a difficult process, compared to some other methods.”
32. Where can we read about the new studies?
A. From NASA. B. In The Verge.
C. From Space Flight Center. D. In the journal Nature.
What can we learn from Paragraph 3
A. The only water found is located on areas lighted by the Sun.
B. The deadly cold situation stops people from accessing the holes.
C. It is the first time that people have found water on the Moon.
D. It can reach a temperature of -400 ℃ in the holes.
What is the difficulty when we get the water according to Honniball
A. Great efforts will be needed to melt the glass.
B. There is not enough water on the Moon.
C. We don’t know where to find the water.
D. We don’t know how to get the water.
What is the main idea of the text
A. NASA plans to send astronauts to the Moon.
B. A lot of unknowns exist in making use of the Moon.
C. Using water on the Moon will be key to a future lunar base.
D. Water ice on the Moon may be easier to reach than we thought.

Now in 2019, jazz music is an important part of Indianapolis’ art culture. Jazz clubs around the city still host concerts with local jazz musicians like Rob Dixon and Joel Tucker. One of these clubs, the Chatterbox Jazz Club, still has live jazz seven nights a week.
But the real history of jazz in Indy is much less simple. Along with the Avenue’s culture, jazz music was gone from the streets for many years.
Indiana Avenue was the heart of a neighborhood along the White River. It was a center for black music and live street music. The wealthy avoided this area. So it became a place that poorer families, including many African-American and immigrant (移民) families, moved to.
Jazz prospered in the mix of American cultures around the Avenue in the 1930s and 1940s. But in the 1950s, things changed. After the war, there were projects to make the city beautiful and build a university nearby. Both of these seemed like good changes. However, the new university and buildings caused poorer families to have to leave the area. This destroyed the Indiana Avenue community — and with it, its jazz culture.
After many years, Indianapolis remembered the value of its arts and music culture. It began to bring back lost cultures such as live music on the Avenue. To do so, it began to make new changes. The changes included repairing historic areas like the Avenue. Once again, the high living costs in these historic arts areas pushed low-income families out.
Today there are several old-style jazz clubs where friends can meet up to remember the past or just enjoy a summer evening. It might seem at first that jazz is alive again, but there is a sad reality behind these jazz clubs: Modern Indy jazz is only a shadow (影子) of the lively culture that was once on Indiana Avenue.

C. It shows the sadness of the poor.
