What would it be like to live on Mars The movie The Martian (2015) has given us some answers. It follows a botanist (植物学家) who is left on Mars for nearly two years. To survive, he finds a way to grow potatoes in a special room. He wears a spacesuit when he is outside his “home”. The botanist drives a rover(探月车) on the surface of Mars. But some bad dust storms make life there very difficult.
In fact, just like in the movie, walking on Mars’ surface without a suit is a bad idea. “Your eyes and skin would peel away (剥落) like sheets of burning paper,” science reporter Ross Andersen wrote for Aeon. com. “Your blood would turn to steam, and you would die within 30 seconds.” There is bad radiation (辐射) and dust storms. So people would most likely live in underground homes.
On Mars, people could grow crops such as wheat and potato in special boxes. The crops could help make oxygen for humans to breathe, like trees do on Earth, according to .
How to move around Mars People have suggested cars, bikes, rovers, trains, cable cars and planes. However, there are no official plans to say exactly what humans will use.
( )1. Why did the writer tell the movie
A. To let people watch it.
B. To tell people what life is like on Mars.
C. To tell us about the botanist’s life on Mars.
D. To warn(警告) people not to go to Mars.
( )2. What will happen if people walk on Mars’ surface without a suit
A. Their eyes and skin would peel away.
B. Their blood would turn to steam.
C. They would die within 30 seconds.
D. All of the above.
( )3. Why would people grow wheat and potato on Mars
A. Because they could be people’s food.
B. Because they could help make oxygen for humans to breathe.
C. Because people couldn’t plant other crops.
D. Because people like to plant them.
( )4. What can we learn from the last paragraph
A. People may drive rovers on Mars.
B. People may go outside by boat on Mars.
C. People couldn’t drive cars on Mars.
D. The official plans asked people to take planes on Mars.
( )5. What can be a suitable title for the text
A. What the Life Would Be Like on Mars B. A Botanist’s Life on Mars
C. People Could Grow Crops on Mars D. How to Move around Mars

书面表达
Dear Jean,
When the winter holiday came to an end, we didn’t go back to school.
We had to take online classes at home because of the novel coronavirus outbreak.
On the screen, our teachers gave lessons using PPTs. Their PPTs were great and they explained everything clearly. We could interact with our teachers by chatting online and doing voice calls. Sometimes there were even video calls. So cool!
Since we took classes online at home, there were no teachers around. Still I did a good job. I listened to the teachers carefully. I did as they said. I took notes and worked out the problems. I always did my homework on time. I think we should thank our teachers and also give ourselves a thumb.
Best wishes.
Yours,
Li Hua
