I was deep into a drawing from a book.

1. Once when I was six years old, I saw a magnificent picture in a book, called True Stories from Nature, about the primeval forest.It was a picture of a boa constrictor In the act of swallowing an animal. Here is a copy of the drawing.
我六岁的时候在一本书里看到了一张非常震撼的图。书的名字是《大自然的真实故事》,讲的是原始森林。那张图片上有一条蟒蛇正在吞掉一只动物。这是那张图的摹本:

7.The grown-ups' response, this time, was to advise me to lay aside my drawings of boa constrictors. whether from the inside or the outside, and devote myself instead to geography, history arithmetic and grammar. That is why, at the age of six, I gave up what might have been a magnificent career as a painter. I had been disheartened by the failure of my Drawing Number One and my Drawing Number Two. Grown-ups never understand anything by themselves, and it is tiresome for children to be always and forever explaining things to them.

众所周知,《小王子》是一则童话,但并非是只写给孩子看的童话,作者圣埃克苏佩里将题词献给了一个大人,之所以献给大人,是希望大人能把小王子的故事讲给自己的小时候。小王子用自己的生命去寻求爱与责任,是为了告诉每一个人,即使长成大人,也不要丢掉小时候的天真;即使再年轻,也要明白如何去爱。
倘若你也察觉到童真的溃散,就请踏上小王子的旅程。除去小王子自身所在的星球,他一生曾踏足过七颗行星。前五个星球都很小,小到上面的人们几乎不能在所处的方寸之地移动,当然外部条件并非是限制他们行动的主要原因,只是他们都未曾想过像小王子一样离开。沉迷权威的国王,自我封闭的爱虚荣者,情绪低落的酒鬼,贪婪自满的生意人,他们每一个人在小王子眼中都是不可理喻的,就好比大人渐渐忘却了儿时的天真,小孩也看不懂大人的复杂情绪。他们也曾是小孩,但他们长大后的人生却是荒诞的,他们没有进行过对爱的探索,亦或许曾对身边的爱与友情视若无睹。与前四者相比,第五颗星球上的点灯人不会使小王子感到可笑,也正如小王子所说的那样:“可能是因为他关心的是别的事,而不是他自己。”旅程至此,小王子好像离自己的目标越来越近,爱从来不是自私的占有。
第六颗星球要比前面的星球大十倍,上面住着一位老地理学家,只是他并不了解所在星球的地形,面对小王子的询问,他信誓旦旦地说缺少探险家。天真的小王子并未过多追究想法与实践的问题,他从老地理学家那里知道了花儿朝生暮死,担心起他的那朵玫瑰。在老地理学家的建议下,小王子来到了偌大的地球。
在地球,他遇到了形形色色的动植物和人,他就像一张白纸,任何见识都可以给他绘上颜色,前提是那些见识不是他认准的歪理。狐狸教会他驯养是建立纽带,之后就会相互需要,也正因如此,小王子明白了,爱的存在让他的那朵玫瑰与众不同。他降临在贫瘠的沙漠,遇到了落魄的飞行员,一个典型的拥有过童真的飞行员。不同的是,飞行员在沙漠里渴求一线生机,而小王子仍不忘探寻真理。最后飞行员找到了水井,修好了飞机;而小王子却被毒蛇夺去了生命。
结局是悲哀的,我们憎恶夺去小王子生命的毒蛇,可如若细想,毒蛇带给小王子的反而是一种解脱,使小王子免于苦楚。诚然,起初的我认为《小王子》的语言晦涩难懂,到后来我才明白是我与童真渐行渐远,圣埃克苏佩里的目的也在此——为了唤醒长成大人的小孩。小王子可以说是每一个天真小孩的真实写照,即使我们早已长大成人,也需要代替曾经的自己明白如何爱,如何感知身边的爱。大人并非无所不能,小孩的天真也并不等于无知,读《小王子》的心理历程,就是驯养自己,造就饱满的灵魂。
圣埃克苏佩里最终让小王子降临地球,是为了拉近我们与小王子的距离。即使故事是虚构的,童真也已逝去,但只要我们抬头仰望夜空,就总能看到星星的微笑。
