M:Good afternoon, everyone! I am Lorenzo from Brazil, and today I'm very pleased to be doing this speech on behalf of Class 2A.
The students from Class 2A come from six different countries: Brazil, Canada, France, Hungary, Indonesia and Thailand. Even though we have very distinct cultures and speak different languages, we became good friends soon after starting our Japanese course.
Because we were all beginners in Japanese, our class loved studying grammar! I'd like to use this opportunity to apologize to all the teachers, for asking so many tough questions in Japanese and giving them such a hard time! However, through their great effort we were able to truly improve our Japanese, as you can see in the “Conversation Challenge” video!
Finally, I'd like to express my gratitude to all the teachers, for their guidance and inspiration. Though the course has ended, I believe we will all continue to study Japanese.
Thank you very much!

show off“显示;炫耀”;take over“接管”;look after“照看”;give up“放弃”,从语境的连贯判断选B项表示“展示”。
dress up“盛装打扮”;fold up“折叠”;cover up“盖住;遮住”;mix up“混淆”。
I slipped during a performance(我在这次舞蹈表演中跌倒)可知选B项。
49.C 根据后文as I continued with the routine(我继续进行舞蹈动作)可知我努力按老师说的做。follow one's advice“按某人说的做”。
51.D 从tasting the salt from the tears that streamed down my face(品尝着顺着脸往下流的眼泪的咸味)得知此处应该是哭泣。
turn sb. down“拒绝某人”;let down“使失望”;put down“放下”。
I finished the routine with a smile on my face.(我面带微笑完成舞蹈动作。)
54.C 根据第二段第七句的“and I felt the blood rush to my face并且我感到脸一下子红了”推知我很尴尬。satisfied“感到满意的”;moved“感动的”;confused“迷惑不解的”。
55.B 从but I fought the urge to run off the stage(但是我克制了想离开舞台的想法)和I finished the routine with a smile on my face(我面带微笑完成舞蹈动作)看出有转折并进一步说明之意。

Aboriginal is a term used to describe the people and animals that lived in a place from the earliest known times or before Europeans arrived. Examples are the Maori in New Zealand, the Aborigines in Australia and the Indians in America. They all share the fact that they were pushed off their land by European settlers.
Maori
The Maori were the first people to go to New Zealand about 1,000 years ago. They came from the islands of Polynesia in the Pacific. They brought dogs, rats and plants with them and settled mainly on the Northern Island. In 1769, Captain James Cook from Britain took possession of the Island and from that time British people started to settle. The Maori signed an agreement on land rights with these settlers, but in later years there were arguments and battles between them.
Aborigines
The native people of Australia came from somewhere in Asia more than 40,000 years ago. They lived by hunting and gathering. Their contact with British settlers began in 1788. By the 1940s almost all of them were mixed into Australian society as low paid workers. Their rights were limited. In 1976 and 1993 the Australian Government passed laws that returned some land to the Aborigines and recognized their property rights.
American Indians
Long before the Europeans came to America in the 16th and 17th centuries, the American Indians, or Native Americans, lived there. It is believed that they came from Asia. Christopher Columbus mistook the land for India and so called the people there Indians. The white settlers and American Indians lived in peace at the beginning, but conflicts finally arose and led to the Indian Wars (1866—1890). After the wars, the Indians were driven to the west of the country. Not until 1924 did they gain the rights to vote.
56.The similarity among Maoris, Aborigines and American Indians is that ________.
A. they lost their voting rights after European settlers' arrival
B. they lost their land after European settlers' arrival
C. they were driven out of their countries after European settlers' arrival
D. they were not treated as citizens until recently

59.The passage mainly tells us ________.

D. European settlers were the enemy of all aboriginal people

Bridges and subways will be even older and need repair or replacement. We need to learn to take care of the environment, reuse, recycle and compost (制成堆肥) waste, so we have less garbage. Put more money into NYC budgets (预算) to maintain our parks, playgrounds and beaches. New Yorkers need to respect and love their city instead of vandalizing and littering it.”

This lesson will be passed down from generation to generation and the children of the future won't have to be scared of doing anything. They will know that peace has finally come.”
—— Riddhi Shah, age 10
“In the year 2020, there will be many modern things. One thing is having a car run by the stars. We will have a computer disk called I. Q. 6000. We will have cars, phones and computers that are run without batteries.”

American cities are similar to other cities around the world:In every country, cities reflect the values of the culture. American cities are changing, just as American society is changing.
After World War Ⅱ, the population of most large American cities decreased; however, the population in many Sun Belt cities increased. Los Angeles and Houston are cities where population shifts (转移)to and from the city reflect the changing values of American society. In the late 1940s and early 1950s, city residents(居民) became wealthier. They had more children so they needed more space. They moved out of their apartments in the city to buy their own homes. They bought houses in the suburbs(郊区).
Now things are changing. The children of the people who left the cities in the 1950s are now adults. Many, unlike their parents, want to live in the cities. They continue to move to Sun Belt cities and older ones of the Northeast and Midwest. Many young professionals are moving back into the city. They prefer the city to the suburbs because their jobs are there; or they just enjoy the excitement and possibilities that the city offers.
This population shift is bringing problems as well as benefits. Countless poor people must leave their apartments in the city because the owners want to sell the buildings or make apartments for sale instead of for rent. In the 1950s, many poor people did not have enough money to move to the suburbs; now many of these same people do not have enough money to stay in the cities.
Only a few years ago, people thought that the older American cities were dying. Some city residents now see a bright, new future. Others see only problems and conflicts. One thing is sure:many dying cities are alive again.
67.What does the author think of cities all over the world
A. They are alive. B. They are hopeless.
C. They are similar. D. They are different.
68.Why did American city residents want to live in the suburbs after World War Ⅱ?
A. Because older American cities were dying.
B. Because they were richer and needed more space.
C. Because cities contained the worst parts of society.
D. Because they could hardly afford to live in the city.
69.According to the 4th paragraph, a great many poor people in American cities ________.
A. are faced with housing problems
B. are forced to move to the suburbs
C. want to sell their buildings
D. need more money for daily expenses
故选A项。
70.We can conclude from the text that ________.
A. American cities are changing for the worse
B. people have different views on American cities
C. many people are now moving from American cities
D. the population is decreasing in older American cities
A项和第一段最后一句矛盾,the worse“错误”;C项的主语应该是many poor people;文中没有和D项相关的信息。

In order that you could save some money, I'd like to give you some tips. I suggest you buy the five day All in One hopper pass, which is HK$1,460 for visitors aged 10 to up and HK $1,200 for kids aged 3—9. You can save more than HK $800 compared with the tickets you buy separately. I think you'd better eat lunch at nearby restaurants, where excellent food is served and the service is good, but you must make a reservation before leaving home. You will be a Gold Card member if you pay HK$520. With the card you can save 20 percent of money for hotel rooms. My last tip is that you'd better not buy any souvenirs until the end of journey. I spent a lot of money on expensive but valueless things.
Enjoy_your_trip_and_all_the_best_wishes!

Around 50,000 Polish workers have come to Britain to find work since their country joined the EU.
In the same year, 498 doctors registered to work in Britain, compared to 17 the last year. In Poland they are paid £9,000 a year, compared to £60,000 plus in Britain.
Many are also coming over to take advantage of the building boom. Instead of the £3,000 a year a brick layer gets in Poland, here they can expect to get £39,000—13 times as much.
Hotel and restaurant work is also popular. A kitchen porter in Poland is paid around £1,200 a year, compared to £ 10,000 here. And a waitress here gets around £12,000, compared to £1,400 in Poland.

However, after winning the gold medal in Barcelona, he announced that he would retire from professional basketball. Larry Bird said he would have liked to play a little longer, but he could not because of his health problems. He also said it was a good time to leave the game. He wanted to be remembered as a winner.
56.The main idea of the second paragraph is that Larry Bird________.
A. was strong and tall
B. was good at shooting baskets
C. was the oldest player of the team

A. Larry Bird began his career soon after his graduation from the college.
B. He lost interest in playing basketball after he retired.
C. Though he left the team, he didn't feel too much regret.

答案与解析 B 由原文“Larry Bird said he would have liked to play a little longer, but he could not because of his health problems.”
59.Which is the correct order of what Larry Bird did
a. He led the Indiana State University Team into the College Basketball Championship Game.

China's Basketball 3rd class Without Yao Ming
Hu Jiashi, China Basketball Administration Center vice director, said in an interview on October 8 that the goal for the national basketball team was a gold in this year's Asian Games and that the team would be only third class without Yao Ming, the Yanzhao Metrgpolis News reported Monday.
Although China failed to reach the eight finals in the 2006 Basketball World Championship that ended last September, rumors are flying that the BAC has framed a medal winning plan in 2008.
Hu denied the rumors yesterday, saying the bottom line for the Olympic Games would be eighth place.
He confirmed that the gold is the aim for men's and women's national basketball teams in the upcoming Asian Cup to be held in Doha, Qatar.
“The men's basketball team lost the gold in the previous Asian Games and last year's East Asian Games, so it's very important to recapture the lost gold medal for building spiritual strength for the team,” he said.
Hu said he agreed with the national basketball team coach Jonas Kazlauskas that it would be a great loss to the Chinese team if Yao Ming couldn't attend the Asian Games, adding that the Chinese men's basketball team would only be a third class team without Yao.
However, Hu believed it would be a good opportunity for other team members to perform harder and play more important roles on the team.
According to Hu, Wang Zhizhi and Yi Jianlian would be included in the team for the Asian Games.
Hu spoke highly of Jonas Kazlauskas, who previously headed the Lithuanian national team and took the Chinese team last year, regarding his competence and methods on managing the team.
60.We can infer from the passage that________.
A. the plan of BAC for the national basketball team is to win a medal in 2008
B. eighth place is the aim for women's national basketball team in the upcoming Asian Cup to be held in Doha, Qatar
C. Yao Ming is very important to the men's national basketball team
D. Jonas Kazlauskas is not a good coach according to what Hu Jiashi said
61. What's the meaning of the underlined word“recapture” in Paragraph 5
A. Refuse. B. Make.
C. Fill. D. Regain.
62.Which of the following statements is TRUE
A. Jonas Kazlauskas didn't think Yao Ming was important to the national basketball team.
B. Hu Jiashi thought it a good opportunity for other team members if Yao couldn't attend the Asian Games.
C. The women's basketball team lost the gold in the previous Asian Games.
D. China managed to reach the eight finals in the 2006
Basketball World Championship.
C
This month Dr. Jeffers is answering questions about the human brain and how it works.
Dear Dr. Jeffers, One of my colleagues,Felix Moeller, told me that scientists are learning to use computers to “read minds”. Is there any truth to this story — Jane Leon, New York, USADear Ms. Leon, Well, a lot of research is being conducted in this area, but so far, the brain scanning equipment and corresponding computer programs haven't been able to actually read thoughts. In one experiment, test subjects(受试者) were connected to scanning equipment and shown two numbers on a screen. They were then asked to choose between adding or subtracting(减) the two numbers. Using this method, researchers were able to follow brain processes and make the correct assumptions(假设) 70 percent of the time. It's not quite mind reading, but it's certainly a first step.— Dr. J.
Dear Dr. Jeffers, My three year old son loves it when I dig my fingers into his sides and tickle(胳肢) him until he laughs uncontrollably. The other day I noticed him trying to tickle himself but he couldn't do it. Why not?— Glenn Lewis, Vancouver, CanadaDear Mr. Lewis, It's because of how the brain works. The brain is trained to know what to pay attention to and what to ignore. It causes us to ignore physical feelings we expect to happen, but it causes a mild panic reaction when there is an unexpected feeling. For example, you don't notice how your shoulder feels while you're walking down the street. But if someone comes up behind you and touches you lightly on the shoulder, you may jump in fear. It's that unexpected part that causes the tickle reaction.— Dr. J.
63. What can we learn from the answer to the first question
A. Some equipment is able to read human minds.
B. Some progress has been made in mind reading.
C. Test subjects have been used to make decisions.
D. Computer programs can copy brain processes.
根据第二封信第一句“Well, a lot of research is being conducted in this area, but so far, the brain scanning equipment and corresponding computer programs haven't been able to actually read thoughts.” 根据第二封信最后一句“It's not quite mind reading, but it's certainly a first step.”
64. People laugh when tickled by others because the feeling is ________.
A. unexpected B. expected
C. comfortable D. uncomfortable
根据文章最后一段中“it causes a mild panic reaction when there is an unexpected feeling”和“It's that unexpected part that causes the tickle reaction.”
65. Who has got a little child according to the text
A. Ms. Leon B. Mr. Lewis
C. Mr. Moeller D. Dr. Jeffers
66. According to the text, Jeffers is probably ________.
A. a computer programmer
B. a test subject
C. a human brain expert
D. a medical doctor
D
Soccer is a game played by two teams on a rectangular(矩形的) field, in which players attempt to knock a round ball through the opponents'(对手) goal, using any part of the body except the hands. Generally, players use their feet and heads as they kick, dribble(带球), and pass the ball toward the goal. One player in each team guards the goal. This player, the goalkeeper, is the only player allowed to touch the ball with the hands.
Soccer is a free flowing game that has relatively few rules and requires little equipment. All that is needed to play is an area of open space and a ball. Much of the world's soccer is played informally, without field markings or real goals. In many places, the game is played barefoot using rolled up rags or newspapers as a ball. Soccer is the world's most popular sport, played by people of all ages in about 200 countries. The sport has millions of fans throughout the world. Only in the United States is the game referred to as soccer. Outside the United States the sport is commonly called football, or futbol in Spanish speaking countries, where the game is particularly popular. The official name of the sport is association (联合) football. The word soccer is a slang corruption of the abbreviation(缩写)assoc.
The Federation International de Football Association (FIFA) is the worldwide governing body of soccer. FIFA governs all levels of soccer, including professional play, Olympic competitions, and youth leagues. The organization also governs the sport's premier(首要的)event, the World Cup, an international competition held every four years with national teams from 32 countries.
67.What is the purpose of the first paragraph
A. To tell us the definition of the soccer.
B. To give us an brief introduction of the soccer.
C. To tell us how to play soccer.
D. To tell us the rules of the soccer.
68.According to the passage which of the following sentences is NOT true
A. The final aim of playing soccer is to kick the ball through the opponents' goal.
B. None of the players of the team can touch the ball by hands.
C. Much of the world's soccer is played informally.
D. You can play the football without field markings or real goals.
仔细分析“None of the players of the team can touch the ball by hands.”
69.Generally speaking, soccer is called________ throughout the world.
A. futbol B. association football
C. football D. soccer
文章第二段中“Outside the United States the sport is commonly called football, or futbol in Spanish speaking countries ...”
70.What is NOT the role of FIFA
A. FIFA governs all levels of soccer.
B. FIFA also governs the sport's premier event, the World Cup.
C. FIFA leads the world of soccer.
D. The World Cup is an international competitions held every four years.

W: So, here we are. You wouldn't imagine that there would be a school in the woods, would you The house held about 24 boys and girls at that time. We attended the school once or twice a week in summer. We walked there in the cool of the morning by the forest paths, and back late in the afternoon. All the pupils brought their dinners in baskets — corn cakes, milk, and other good things. We sat in the shade of the trees at noon and ate them. You know how old I was when I came to this school for the first time I was seven. I can still remember what happened that day. A fifteen year old girl stopped me at the gate and asked me if I “got used to tobacco” meaning ... “did I smoke”. I said no. She made faces at me and made fun of me to the crowd, and said, “here is a girl seven years old who can't smoke.”
Look at the wall here. Do you see all these names “Lefty”, that's me. I got the name when I was four. I used my left hand more often when I was young. Well, that was sixty years ago.

C. possible D. favorable
36.B 根据前半句中的an unpleasant voice and a direct way of speaking和后半句中的encouraging and inspiring可以判断前后句为转折关系。
37.A 根据后面句子中的wanted to know以及had no idea,可以判断此处为Mrs.
Mrs.Neidl would ask me可以判断出respond to her questions。
be introduced“被介绍”;be recognized as“被认可”;be identified“被识别”;be considered as“被认为”。
confirm“证实”;decide“决定”;realize“意识到”;acknowledge“承认”。
50.A “与Mrs. 下面”;of“……的”;by“通过”。
develop“发展”;discover“发现(原来不知道)”;take“拿”;foster“抚育”。
accept“接受”;care“在意”;judge“评判”;wonder“想知道”。
accessible“可到达的”;enjoyable“享受的”;possible“可能的”;favorable“肯定的”。
A
Some people cannot learn in ordinary schools. Often some physical or mental(精神的) handicap prevents a child from learning. In education today new methods are being used in special schools to help the handicapped learners.
Among many interesting schools for handicapped persons, there is one which is being set up in the southern part of New Jersey, USA. It is called the Bancroft Community. Here handicapped young adults will be trained to support themselves and to get along in the outside world.
The Bancroft Community is not walled in like other schools. The students may gradually develop normal relations with the rest of the world. Bancroft Community students will live in apartments or houses, cooking their own meals, washing their own clothes, and learning to do other tasks. Gradually, as they become able, they will buy their own furniture, paying for it out of their own earnings. They will pay rent for their food, too. They will learn to expect telephone bills for the calls they make every month.
As a step towards the goal of becoming independent, each handicapped will decide what kind of work one wants to be trained to do. While some of the training will be carried on within the Bancroft Community itself, most of the students will receive job training in nearby towns. They will be towns people for whom they will work without pay.
56.Which word in the following is similar in meaning to the underlined word “handicapped”?
A. Deaf. B. Blind.
C. Bad. D. Disabled.
57.The reason why the handicapped go to the special schools is that________.
A. ordinary schools have no specialized teachers and necessary accommodations(设备)
B. they do not want to go to the ordinary schools
C. they have special rights
D. they are a group of strange people
58.There are no walls around the Bancroft Community, why
A. Because the director wants to make the students live freely.
B. Because the director wants to help the students learn more.
C. Because the students can mix with the outside world and it should not be different from all other schools.
D. Because the director wants to save money.
59.As a student in a special school, one________.
A. can't cook their own meals
B. will pay the job trainers with one's service
C. can't pay rent or pay for their food
D. can't afford their own furniture
信息在最后一段最后一句“... for whom they will work without pay.”。
B
In the primary school, a child is in a comparatively simple setting and most of the time forms a relationship with one familiar teacher. On entering secondary school, a new world opens up and frequently it is a much more difficult world. The pupil soon learns to be less free in the way he speaks to teachers and even to his fellow pupils. He begins to lose gradually the free and easy ways of the primary school, for he senses the need for a more cautious approach in the secondary school where there are older pupils. Secondary staff and pupils suffer from the pressures of academic work and seem to have less time to stop and talk. Teachers with special roles may see hundreds of children in a week, and a pupil may be able to form relationships with very few of the staff. He has to decide which adults are approachable; good schools will make it clear to every young person from the first year what guidance and personal help is available — but whether the reality of life in the institution actually encourages requests for help is another matter.
Adults often forget what a confusing picture school can offer to a child. He sees a great deal of movement, a great number of people — often rather frightening looking people — and realizes that an increasing number of choices and decisions have to be made. As he progresses through the school the confusion may become less but the choices and decisions required will increase. The school will rightly expect the pupils to take the first steps to obtain the help he needs, for this is the pattern of adult life for which he has to be prepared, but all the time the opportunities for personal and group advice must be presented in a way which makes them easy to understand and within easy reach of pupils.
60.According to the passage, one of the problems of pupils entering secondary school is that ________.
A. they are taught by many different teachers
B. they do not attend lessons in every subject
C. the teachers do not want to be friendly
D. the teachers give most attention to the more academic pupils
61.After becoming a pupil in secondary school, the child should be cautious about personal relation and hardworking in academic work, for he________.
A. is told by his teachers to behave so
B. is not accustomed to the life in the secondary school
C. realizes the secondary school life requires him to act so
D. suffer from the pressure of school work
62.In secondary schools every pupil having problems should first ________.
A. know how to ask for help
B. be free from any pressure of academic work
C. be able to discuss his problems in class
D. be able to discuss his problems with any teacher
63.In this passage about secondary schools, the author is mainly concerned about ________.
A. academic standards
B. the role of specialist teachers
C. the training of the individual teachers
D. the personal development of pupils
C
Below is a housing guide for students going to London.
University accommodation(住所) offices
Many university accommodation offices have their own list of registered landlords(房东). Others also provide information on accommodation agencies and other housing organizations. The advantage of using your university accommodation office is that you can get some support if you have a problem. The disadvantage is that they are unlikely to have enough registered landlords to house all their students.
Property papers:Loot and Renting
Loot is an important source(来源) of information about private housing for co renters. The offers are from private landlords, agencies and individuals looking for other co renters. They also have a website:www. . The advantage of using Loot is that there are some excellent bargains. The disadvantage is that there is no quality control over the offers.
Renting is another useful paper. The offers in this paper are mainly from accommodation agencies. Their website is at www. renting. co. uk.
Accommodation agencies
The majority of rented accommodation in London is probably advertised through accommodation agencies. The advantage of using accommodation agencies is that you will have access to a large number of accommodations. A good agent will listen to your requirements and can save you time in looking for the right accommodation. The disadvantage is that they will make a range of charges to potential renters.
Noticeboards
Around the universities you will find a number of noticeboards where offers of accommodation will be posted. These will either be from landlords or from students. Some universities will also have online noticeboards where students can advertise to other students. Advertisements from students can be an excellent way to find accommodation. However, advertisements from landlords can be problematic.
Word of mouth
Some of the best housing in London is never advertised but is passed on from one group of students to another by word of mouth. It might be that you can find out about good offers from final year students. However, don't suppose that just because you have found out about housing from a friend it is necessarily going to be better than that found through any other source.
Family
Faced with the very high rents charged in London, some students and their parents will consider buying as an alternative. In some cases this might be a good choice.
64. What is the advantage of using Loot
A. It has more offers from accommodation agencies than Renting.
B. It gives you personal information about other co renters.
C. Their website is designed mainly for students.
D. There are some good bargains.
65. A good agent can help you ________.
A. know more people
B. find cheap accommodation
C. get the right accommodation quickly
D. get free information about most accommodations
66. The information passed on by word of mouth is important because ________.
A. it is better than that found through any other source
B. it helps you find some of the best housing never advertised
C. the final year students always offer better information
D. the landlords have little valuable information
67. For students going to London for the first time, which of the following provides the most reliable information
A. University accommodation offices.
B. Loot and Renting.
C. Noticeboards.
D. Family.
D

When I sit down in class, I often wonder why my teachers choose such a job. Don't get me wrong:if it weren't for teachers I wouldn't be as smart as I am. But tell me:after you go to school fourteen years, will you choose to be a teacher
After I see how students treat their teachers by disrespecting them in all types of ways, why would I want to have that job It's not likely that I would take that junk from them. Do you think they become teachers to have the freedom that they didn't have in school Or do they really want you to learn something — If they do,why do they scream at you when you make a mistake, or talk We all are not perfect,so if you don't get a lesson they teach, why do they say you haven't been listening It is not all teachers that are like that. But to the ones that do, I'd like to shout at them:DON'T TEACH!

范文
Education in China today has been developing rapidly. Most children start school by the age of seven. They spend five or six years in a primary school and three years in a junior middle school, which are compulsory education. The students don't need to take exams before they enter a junior middle school.
After graduation, some study in a
professional school for two or three years before work. Most of them attend a senior middle school for three years. Students have to pass a series of examinations before entering a university. Now about 50% of the students can go to university. The university life lasts four or five years, and part of the students' studying cost is provided by their families, but they can get support from the university. After they graduate, they can go and find jobs.
Though the education in China has made a great effect, it still can't make ends meet the needs of society.

Text 10
Ladies and gentlemen, it's a great pleasure for me to have an opportunity to introduce something about American colleges. Today there are about seven million Americans in colleges and universities. Young people under twenty five make up nearly half of the American population. Many of those will soon be in charge of the nation. Naturally their ideas are important to everyone in the country, and it is necessary for older people to understand what they think and feel.
College students today have strong opinions about what is right and what is wrong in society. They are deeply interested in making a better life for all people, especially for those who have not been given a fair chance before now. They see much about what is wrong in the lives of their parents. But it is hard for them to see what is right and good in American families, their family beliefs for example. Your country may be meeting with such problems, too.

37.C find“找到,发现”;prepare“准备”;get“得到”;expect“期盼;盼望”。 故用get Christmas gifts表示。
38.D doubt“怀疑”;hope“希望”;suggest“建议;暗示”;accept“接受;承认”。 My mother told us that we would not be receiving Christmas gifts because there was not enough money(母亲告诉我们由于没有足够的钱买圣诞礼物,以后就收不到礼物了)可知,这里是那年“我”开始接受没有圣诞礼物这样的事实。
break in“打断;搅扰”;settle down“解决;定居”;show off“炫耀”;turn up“出现;到达”。
What would I say when the other kids asked what I'd got?(其他伙伴问我得到什么礼物时我说什么呢?)和... three women turned up at our house with gifts for all of us(三位女士带着礼物来到我们家)表明:我心里有种如释重负的感觉。
42.D 由不定式to bring me a gift可知,这里是enough to do sth.
Years later,when I stood in the kitchen of my new house(当我站在我的新家的厨房里的时候),可推测,作者现在成家立业了,因此这是“我”在新家过的第一个特殊而又难忘的圣诞节。
故instantly(立刻,马上)最能体现作者的内心世界。
the same feeling of importance同样的重要感觉。
46.C keep up with“跟上”,指状态;catch up with“赶上”,指动作;come up with“提出”;put up with“忍受”。We gathered about 125 orphans at the Christmas party(我们集合125名孤儿一起过圣诞节)就是“我”提出的计划。come up with a plan提出一项计划。
48.B 解答本题的关键就是正确理解we wanted all of them to know they were________.
49.A they couldn't open their presents ________ every child had come forward就是“我要提醒孩子们”的内容。
50.B not ... until ...直到……才……。I reminded that they couldn't open their presents until every child had come forward我提醒他们,直到大家都过来才能打开礼物。
52.A light up“喜形于色;喜气洋洋”;take up“占据;从事”;burn up“烧焦”;cheer up“使欢呼、兴高采烈”。 故选A项。
53.D 由前面信息their faces beamed and their bright smiles lit up the room(孩子们满面笑容的样子和灿烂的笑容使整个房间充满欢乐的气氛)可知选D项。atmosphere“气氛;氛围”;sympathy“同情”;calmness“平静”都与情景their bright smiles lit up the room不相吻合。
54.A 与后面信息句It was a feeling是排比句。
A
The Chinese State Council has included theSpring Festival, Peking Opera, acupuncture(针灸), the Legend of Madame White Snake and Shaolin Kungfu in the country's first intangible cultural heritage list.
The list contains 518 items in 10 categories, including folk literature, folk music and dance, traditional opera, ballad singing, cross talk, acrobatics, folk fine arts, traditional handicraft, traditional medicine and folk customs, the State Council announced on its website on Friday.
However, experts say the protection of heritage in China is a race against time.
“Intangible cultural heritage in China is facing a rigorous challenge in its battle against urbanization and globalization,” said Tian Qing, a member of the jury and director of the Intangible Culture Heritage Research Center under the AAC.
An old artwork, handicraft or folk song is likely to disappear and an old house is likely to be demolished every second in China.
Few Chinese media covered UNESCO's listing of Kunqu opera as a “masterpiece of the oral and intangible heritage of humanity” in 2001, while the Japanese media acclaimed the listing of the Nogaku theater, said Tian.
“The Chinese government's attention to intangible heritage was fueled by the public,” he said.
The government has established an annual national “Cultural Heritage Day” on the second Saturday of June, the first falling on June 10 with a series of performances and exhibitions to celebrate.
“I believe the intangible cultural heritage list issued by the State Council will help the public reconsider their traditions. Their heritage will become a memory unless the public increases protection awareness,” he said.
56.Which of the following is NOT most likely in the country's first intangible cultural heritage list
A. Kunqu opera. B. Folk music.
C. Cross talk. D. Forbidden City.
57.Why do experts say the protection of heritage in China is a race against time
A. Because the Chinese State Council doesn't take it seriously.
B. Because time goes by very quickly.
C. Because intangible cultural heritage in China is facing a severe challenge.
D. Because culture heritage can disappear quickly.
58.The underlined word “disappear” in the 5th paragraph can be replaced by“________”.
A. be repaired B. be destroyed
C. be made D. be demanded
59.The aim of the government's establishing an annual national “Cultural Heritage Day” is ________.
A. to give a series of performances and exhibitions
B. to help the public reconsider their traditions
C. to have heritage become people's memory
D. to show off to UNESCO
B
Besides Peking Opera, known as the “national opera”, China boasts more than 360 local styles of operas, of which about 50 enjoy great popularity.
Chinese opera took shape in the 12th century. After developing for more than 800 years, it is still full of vitality. At present, the country has more than 2,000 local opera troupes (剧团), which stage thousands of pieces.
A foreign visitor can enjoy at least one style of local opera wherever he travels in China. In China, a local opera form is usually popular in several provinces, while one province sees several local operas. For example, Ping Opera is popular in Beijing, Tianjin, Inner Mongolia, North China and Northeast China. In the Beijing area, not only Peking Opera but also Ping Opera, Hebei Bangzi Opera, Beijing Qu Opera and Northern Kun Opera enjoy_acclaim.
Chinese opera is a traditional dramatic form synthesizing (综合) music, literature, fine arts, martial arts (武术) and acrobatics (杂技). The major difference between two local operas is changqiang (music for voices). Peking Opera and some other local operas stress singing, acting, recitation and acrobatics and their standard roles (角色) are divided into four types — sheng, dan, jing, chou — representing the male, the female, the painted face and the clown. Compared with Peking Opera, most local operas are more closely linked with the common people's everyday life and have less stereotyped patterns of performing. They have deep roots in the soil of real life and are well received among the people, especially the farmers.
Faced with the same situation as another two ancient dramas — Greek tragedy and comedy and Indian Sanskrit drama, Chinese local opera is strongly challenged by film, TV, disco and other kinds of entertainment these days. However, concerned companies and organizations are trying by every means to compete in the fast changing entertainment world.
60.Which of the following can be the best title of the passage
A. Peking Opera
B. The History of Chinese Local Opera
C. Chinese Local Opera
61.If you are asked to continue the passage, what are you going to write
A. Another two ancient dramas.
B. The measures concerned companies and organizations taken to survive.
C. The features of Chinese local opera.
D. Foreigners like Chinese local opera.
62.The underlined words “enjoy acclaim” in Paragraph 3 mean ________.
A. popular with people B. easy to understand
C. hard to understand D. not popular with people
63.Which of the following statements is TRUE
A. More than 360 local styles of operas enjoy great popularity.
B. You can only see one local opera in one province of China.
C. The main difference between Peking Opera and local opera is changqiang.

C
The Cost of Higher Education
Individuals(个人) should pay for their higher education.
A university education is of huge and direct benefit to the individual. Graduates earn more than non graduates. Meanwhile, social mobility is ever more dependent on having a degree. However, only some people have it. So the individual, not the taxpayers, should pay for it. There are pressing calls on the resources(资源) of the government. Using taxpayers' money to help a small number of people to earn high incomes in the future is not one of them.
Full government funding (资助) is not very good for universities. Adam Smith worked in a Scottish university whose teachers lived off student fees. He knew and looked down upon 18th century Oxford, where the academics lived comfortably off the income received from the government. Guaranteed salaries ,Smith argued, were the enemy of hard work;and when the academics were lazy and incompetent, the students were similarly lazy.
If students have to pay for their education, they not only work harder, but also demand more from their teachers. And their teachers have to keep them satisfied. If that means taking teaching seriously, and giving less time to their own research interests, that is surely something to celebrate.
Many people believe that higher education should be free because it is good for the economy (经济). Many graduates clearly do contribute to national wealth, but so do all the businesses that invest(投资) and create jobs. If you believe that the government should pay for higher education because graduates are economically productive, you should also believe that the government should pay part of business costs. Anyone promising to create jobs should receive a gift of capital from the government to invest.
Therefore,it is the individual, not the government, who should pay for their university education.
64.The underlined word “them” in Paragraph 2 refers to ________.
A. taxpayers B. pressing calls
C. college graduates D. government resources
65.The author thinks that with full government funding ________.
A. teachers are less satisfied
B. students are more demanding
C. students will become more competent
D. teachers will spend less time on teaching
66.The author mentions businesses in Paragraph 5 in order to________.
A. argue against free university education
B. call on them to finance students' studies
C. encourage graduates to go into business

Text 10
Eye doctors in Shanghai found out recently that the nearsightedness among primary and middle school students has something to do with the color of the paper in their textbooks and notebooks.
The doctors suggested that yellow paper should be used to replace the white one. According to their research the experts found out white paper reflects too much light and easily tires a person's eyes. The yellow paper, however, doesn't look so sharp to a person's eyes. In other words, it is much milder to the eyes of students who may do reading or writing for hours.
The expert's research finding was based on first hand information and a number of scientific experiments including a recent study among the students from forty one middle schools. To make the students understand the truth, Shanghai Education Development Co. Ltd has produced textbooks and exercise books made of yellow paper. The books will be used in the whole city soon.

37.A 上文说not afraid下文应为brave“勇敢的”。excited“兴奋的”;curious“好奇的”;stubborn“顽固的;倔强的”。
38.D grow“逐渐变成;渐变”,It began to grow dark. seem“好像;似乎”;prove“证明;证实”。
aside“在旁边;到(或向)一边”;around“在周围”;backward“向后的”。
40.B 上句有“She stopped by the road.”
gather“聚集”;exist“存在;生存”;drop“下降;放弃”。

49.B 上文提到“the passenger window began to slide down”,所以此处车启动前一定是把车窗关上。
50.C 根据上文Alice告诉老太太“you need to go back”可知,老太太需要调头,后半句说从Alice身旁驶过,所以是转弯。pass“经过”;rush“冲;仓促从事”;continue“继续”。

But her pen dared travel where her eyes would not. In a 50 year writing career, Christie's murder stories made her the world's best known mystery writer. She is outsold only by the Bible and Shakespeare.
Her works have been turned into films and TV series, and a line of computer games is to be released over the next six years.
“My grandmother liked to use new ways to reach people who wanted to enjoy her work,” said Christie's grandson, Mathew Pitchard. “Turning her stories into PC games allows us to introduce classic mysteries to new audiences.”
Born in 1890 in England, Christie was educated at home and began her writing career while working as a nurse during World War I. She went on to produce 79 novels and numerous short stories, dying at the age of 86.
“With her knowledge of murder, Christie could have been a teacher at police academies,” said one fan.
56.By saying “her pen dared travel where her eyes would not”, the writer means________.
A. she would like to make a trip with her pen rather than other things
B. she couldn't live without her pen
C. she could describe anything with her pen that she would not like to face
D. she made up stories with her pen
57.By which means can NOT we learn the works of Christie
A. Watching TV. B. Going to the cinema.
C. Reading novels. D. Playing computer games.
58.Mathew Pitchard's words suggest that________.
A. Christie had been trying to write different stories in different styles
B. Christie was fond of changing styles while writing
C. Christie's works are short of audiences
D. people began to lose interest in Christie's works
59.The fifth paragraph mainly________.
A. tells us Christie is a productive writer
B. gives us a brief introduction of Christie
C. tells us when Christie took up writing
D. tells us why Christie was popular
B
Amy Tan, an American Dom daughter, of Chinese immigrants, received the Commonwealth Club Gold Award in 1989 for her first novel, the best selling Joy Luck Club. The sixteen interrelated stories that make up the work switch between the tales of four Chinese immigrant mothers and their Americanized daughters,in an exploration of the generational and cultural tensions(紧张状态) experienced by many first generation daughters of immigrants.
Tan's parents, like many immigrants, had high expectations for their children and often set confusing (混乱的) standards, expecting Amy and her two brothers to think like Chinese but to speak perfect English, be excellent at school, and take advantage of every chance that might lead to success. Tan,however, against her parents' expectations, which included such respected professions as neurosurgery(神经外科), devoted herself to being dreaming of being a novelist.
Tan got a bachelor's degree(学士学位) and then a master's degree and finally established herself as a highly successful business writer. Tan, however, was not satisfied in spite of her material success. Turning to her life long dream, she wrote her first short story,End Game, and then a second, Waiting Between the Trees. In 1987, Tan visited her half sisters in China with her mother,a trip that proved to be a turning point in her life and career. Tan felt a sense of completeness,a link with the country and its culture that she had never expected. Returning from China, Tan was surprised to learn that on the strength of her short stories she had received a sum of money in advance from a publisher. Tan closed her business and wrote the remaining stories for Joy Luck Club. It was an amazing success, well received by the critics and appearing on the New York Times best seller list. It has been translated into 17 languages, including Chinese, and was made into a movie in 1993.
60.What is the author's main purpose in writing this passage
A. To analyze Amy Tan's works in detail.
B. To support Amy Tan's decision to become a novel writer.
C. To present personal information about Amy Tan's writing career.
D. To criticize Amy Tan's choice against her parents.
61.The underlined word “work”(in Paragraph 1) refers to “________”.
A. End Game
B. Waiting Between the Trees
C. Commonwealth Club Gold Award
D. Joy Luck Club
文章第一句话提到谭恩美因为她的小说Joy Luck Club而获奖,后面紧接着就讲到“stories that make up the work”,显然这里的the work指的就是前面提到的Joy Luck Club这部作品,故D项为正确选项。
62.Before becoming a novel writer, Amy Tan was a successful________.
A. business writer B. publisher
C. English teacher D. doctor
文章第三段第一句话提及“Tan got a bachelor's degree and then a master's degree and finally established herself as a highly successful business writer”,后面又提到她为了自己的梦想转而写小说并取得最终的成功。
63.It can be inferred from the passage that________.
A. Tan's parents understood her difficult situation but wanted the best of her
B. the trip to China promoted her success
C. Tan started writing novel in order to make more money
D. Tan always wanted to return to China

The 1900 House
The Bowler family was one of more than 400 families who applied to 1900 House, a reality TV show which took a typical family back a hundred years to see how people lived in the days before the Internet, computer games and even electricity.
The Bowler family spent three months in a London home without a telephone, computers, TV, or fast food. The Bowlers wore clothes from 1900, ate only food available in England at that time, and cooked their meals on a single stove. Paul Bowler still went to work every day in a then uniform. The children changed their clothes on the way to and from school and their classmates didn't know about their unusual home life. Joyce stayed at home, cooking and cleaning like a typical housewife of the time, though everything took three times as long.
So does Joyce think that people's lives were better in the old days
“I think people in the old days had just as many troubles and worries,” Joyce said, “and I don't think their life was better or worse. There were lots of things back then that I'm happy I don't have to deal with nowadays, but on the other hand life was simpler.” “We had a lot more time with our family, and it was hard being nice to each other all the time,” eleven year old Hilary said.
So what did the Bowler family miss most about modern life while living in the 1900 house
Paul,39:“telephone and a hot shower”
Joyce,44:“a quick cup of tea from a kettle you could just turn on”
Hilary,11:“rock CD”
Joseph,9:“hamburger and computer games”
68.While the Bowler family was living in the 1900 house, ________.
A. their mother spent more time on housework
B. the two children wore the then clothes for school
C. they prepared their meals together on a stove
D. they ate simple foods they had never seen
根据文章第二段中“The children changed their clothes on the way to and from school ...” 根据“Joyce stayed at home, cooking and cleaning like a typical housewife of the time ...”
69.According to Paragraph 4, what's Joyce's opinion about life in 1900
A. There were fewer problems for the family.
B. Life was simpler but worse than it is now.
C. There were things she liked and disliked.
D. The family had more time to stay together.
70.What would Hilary expect most from modern life in the three months
A. To play computer games.
B. To make phone calls.
C. To listen to music.
D. To chat on the Internet.

Then a strong wind started to blow into my room. Piece of paper on my desk flew high into the air and some flew out the open window. As I ran out to catch them, big drop of rain began to fall. 范文
People are so busy these days that they can hardly take the time to prepare a meal at home. Thus, a nearby restaurant usually becomes their dining place. However, home cooked meals are better for many reasons.
First, home cooked meals are cheaper. A family can buy a wide variety of cheaper fresh food at the supermarket than in a restaurant. Next, you can buy exactly the food you like. Restaurants sometimes serve meals with vegetables that are not wanted. Finally, home is a more relaxing place to eat. Family members can learn more about each other quietly at home than in a busy restaurant.
In a word, eating at home is better than eating out.

A
As is true in all cultures, Americans first hear music in the context of family life. Much of that music comes from the records on the family radio or television, and this “canned” music is especially important in developing children's musical taste. People often say they were very strongly influenced by the kind of music they heard before they were old enough to have their own records or choose the station on the family radio.
There is usually some live music in the family as well. Many mothers and grandmothers sing lullabies (摇篮曲), for example. These can be important since in America, as elsewhere, lullabies not only lull(使安静) a baby to sleep but promise, praise and teach cultural values. Sometimes lullabies are the only songs in a foreign language that American children with strong ethnic backgrounds hear, since people often fall back on old, familiar languages for intimate songs.
Another important family context is the automobile, where families learn songs and has become one of the basic centers of family experience, and it is one of the important place where the family gathers for an extended period of time without outside disturbance. The family used to have to choose between making their own music in the car or being force fed by the radio, but the recent invention of automobile cassette recorders and eight track play back machines allows a family to have more control over what they hear when they drive.
56.“Canned” music (Para. 1) refers to ________.
A. music passed down from older generations
B. recorded music in contrast to live music
C. modern music young people can enjoy

58. The underlined word “context” means ________.
A. chance B. culture
C. surroundings D. backgrounds
59. The recent invention of automobile cassette recorders allows a family to ________.
A. extend the period of time they spend in cars
B. have more choice in the music they hear
C. enjoy music without being disturbed outsides
D. have another place to get together

Music comes in many forms; most countries have a style of their own. Poland has its folks. Hungary has its czardas Argentina is famous for the tango. The U. S. is known for jazz, the type of music that has gained worldwide popularity.
Jazz is American contribution to popular music. While classical music follows formal European tradition, jazz is rather a free form. It is full of energy, expressing the moods, interests, and emotions of the people. It is breaking and exciting with a modern sound. In the 1920's jazz sounded like America, and so it does today.
The origins of the music are as interesting as the music itself. Jazz was invented by American Negroes, or blacks, as they are called today, who were brought to the Southern states as slaves. They were sold to farm owners and forced to work long hours in the cotton and tobacco fields. This work was hard and life was short. When a Negro died, his friends and relatives would gather and carry the body to have a ceremony before they buried him.
There was always a band with them. On the way to the ceremony the band played slow, solemn music suitable for the situation. But on the way home the mood changed. Spirits lifted. Everyone was happy. Death had removed one of their number, but the living were glad to be alive. The band played happy music. This music made everyone want to dance. It was an early form of jazz.
Music has always been important in Negro life. The blacks, who were brought to America from West Africa, had a rich musical tradition. In the fields, they made up work songs. Singing made the hard work go faster. And when they got to Christianity, they made lovely spirituals, which have become an everlasting part of American music.

Music
Music is mainly divided into four parts: classical, pop, rock and roll, jazz. If you have insomnia, you can listen to Beethoven's “Moonlight”; if you feel lonely, you can listen to John Strauss' The Blue Danube.
Music is a way of relaxing as well as a way of communication. The communication ability of music is stronger than that of languages. You may not understand foreigners, but if you play a well known music, you will become good friends.
Music can teach something that you cannot find in books. We may not learn all the knowledge, but we cannot be an idiot on music.
School is the place for study, but it needs music as well.
