I was on a family vacation and our hotel was right beside the sea. I was reading my book by the beach one afternoon when I heard some noise nearby. Curiously, I put aside the book and joined the group of people near the edge of the sea.
I was struck by what I saw. There was a giant turtle (海龟) which was upside down! Four of its huge feet were waving crazily in the air, and its long wrinkled neck was stretching far out of its shell. A thick rope was tied around the turtle and the fisherman held onto the end of it.
Obviously, the turtle was trying to escape. Some standers-by were clicking their cameras enthusiastically, filming the exciting moment. The crowd was thrilled by the scene before them. One strongly-built man found a piece of wood on the sand, carried it towards the turtle and started pushing the turtle’s head with it. When the end of the wood touched the turtle’s head, the turtle took it into its mouth and chewed it up in an instant.
“Wow!” the crowd shouted. “Did you see that I’m glad it wasn’t my arm!” a person from the crowd exclaimed. “Wait till it gets sold and becomes turtle meat!” another joked and the crowd laughed.
Suddenly, I heard a boy’s screaming, “Cease torturing (折磨) it! Get away from the turtle!” We all turned and saw a boy and his father running toward where we were. “All of you are cruel for just standing there and doing nothing to save the turtle! Would you like it if you were forcefully taken away from your homes to be sold and tortured Animals deserve to be treated with kindness too!” the boy shouted at the group of adults standing on the beach. I sensed a slight change of mood in the crowd-a mixture of unease and anger.

True to Myself
When I was six years old, I developed a type of cancer called leukemia(白血病). I spent most of my days at the Chicago Children’s Hospital. Just when I was starting middle school, my cancer came back. With hope, challenge and will, I went through two stages of treatment and survived.
School was the last thing on my mind. I couldn’t walk very well so I had to use crutches(拐杖). Besides, the medicine I had to take made me weak and my hair fall out. Losing hair was not fun, especially for a girl. Luckily, the teachers were very kind and did their best to help students understand my cancer.
Middle school was even harder to deal with because you have to switch classrooms for every subject. Since I couldn’t walk well, my teachers let me leave class a few minutes before the bell rang. This gave me enough time to get to and from my next class without all the other kids rushing through the hallways.
On one particular day when I felt super weak to make it to my next class, I rested for a minute against a wall while leaning on my crutches. Suddenly the bell rang, the classroom doors swung open, the hallways filled up with students trying to get to their next class. I took a deep breath and tried again. I didn’t make it very far. Just then, the final bell rang and all the students in the hallways dashed into their classrooms, leaving the hallways empty except for me. Suddenly, a boy from nowhere rushing to the classroom stamped on my crutch without noticing it so I lost my balance. I fell flat on my face. I tried to find enough energy to get up. After several fruitless attempts, I felt embarrassed, in pain, and most of all, defeated. At that very moment I hated everything about what was happening to me: My health, my weakness. I never wanted to go back to school again.

In 2000, when I was around seven years old, my parents, sister, brother, and I were coming back from a T-ball game. That was our usual weekend adventure, but unlike every other weekend, a surprise was waiting for us in our driveway. There, we spotted two adult geese and a baby goose. The adults were shocked by our return and flew away, but their baby was still too young to fly and couldn’t follow. We are no strangers to the ways of wildlife, so we knew to avoid physical contact with the baby goose out of fear that it would imprint upon us and be lost to its family forever.
Hours passed and night fell. With it came a deep cold and a fear of watchful predators (捕食者).The tiny little thing was wandering around our yard, unaware of what could happen, and it was clear that the baby goose needed protection, warmth, and nutrients to make it to the morning. At that point. we knew we had to step in and brought him onto our back porch(门厅).
We all pretty much slept with one eye open till morning came. And then another morning. And still another. Each morning, we would try to send the goose over to his parents, who kept coming back to our yard. He wouldn't go to them, though, and they wouldn't come close enough to claim him. We kept this up for five days, but no luck. By then, the young goose had clearly decided we were his new family, so we had to give him a name-Peeper, because he would follow us around the yard making a peeping noise, nonstop.
Days turned into weeks, and weeks turned into months until almost a year passed. We settled into a routine filled with feathery hugs and friendship. Peeper slept on our back porch each night and my dad would clean the goose droppings in the morning. Part of the routine included dad throwing Peeper up into the air so he could fly a loop (圈)around the house, coming back again once the porch was clean.

参考答案
山东省济宁市2021-2022学年高二下学期期末考试英语试题
【答案】One possible version:
Embarrassed as the father was, he was not ashamed of his son. “I apologized for my son’s rudeness. He is just standing up for what he believes in, something that I taught him to do. Please let the turtle go,” he said, addressing the crowd. I could feel something in my heart stirring. Before I knew it the words had flown out of my mouth, “The boy’s right! Let the turtle go!” The crowd started murmuring. To my surprise, one by one, I heard other voices joining in to let the turtle go.
The fisherman finally agreed to let the turtle go. With many keen eyes fixed on him, he untied the knot in spite of some reluctance. The instant the turtle was freed, it crawled immediately towards the vast sea. The air seemed to be still-there was no previous joking or laughing in the crowd. The crowd thinned. After witnessing the turtle swimming away gracefully in the sunset, the boy left hand in hand with his father, lips curving in a smile. Bathed in the setting sun, I was deeply touched.

【答案】One evening, my dad threw Peeper up in the air as usual, but this time, Peeper just flew off. Everyone was very, very sad. It was dark, and we were worried. We looked for him for days, calling his name, but he didn’t come back. We hoped he went off on his natural way. Again, days turned into weeks and weeks turned into months, then years. I missed Peeper. I would call for him every time I saw a group of geese fly by in V-formation. Eighteen years passed, and Peeper became a happy memory for my family.
It came as a total shock to me when, in 2019, an aging adult goose made his way back to my family home. At first, I thought it was just another goose. And yet, something about him seemed strangely familiar to me. The goose came back repeatedly. He did all of the same things Peeper used to, like trying to come in through the front door and sleeping in our back porch. Besides, this goose also responded to the name Peeper. Much to my surprise, my old best friend had returned, 18 years later.

本篇书面表达是读后续写。文章讲述了作者小时候发生的一件难忘的事。
