When you are communicating, you spend nearly 60% of your time listening to other people, but most people only remember 25% of what they hear. 36
Be more present. When you are listening to someone, put everything else aside and give your full attention to the person. Make sure you keep eye contact with the person at all times.
37 When you are listening to another person, try to think what they might be feeling or going through at that very moment. Sympathy for others can allow you to imagine yourself in the situation from the person’s angle and see what you can learn from the discussion.
Ask more questions. Being a good listener doesn’t just mean that you sit quietly and let the other person speak. 38 The more interested you are in what the person is saying, the better the conversation will be. The key is to let questions carry forward the conversation and to leave enough room for the person to continue talking.
Train your emotional intelligence. Y our emotional intelligence influences your ability to listen to other people. 39 Learn to understand your own emotions, both negative and positive. Be aware of your reactions when you are listening to someone.
Make a note of the conversation. 40 You need to think about the key message of the discussion, and analyse what you and the other person have learned from it. So making an internal note of the conversation can help you further improve your listening as well as communication skills as a whole.
A. Try to think carefully.
B. Be in sympathy with the person.
C. The good news is that you can train it.
D. So why can’t most people be great listeners
E. You also need to inquire about something meaningful.
F. So what can you do to listen more and become a great listener

How to Average Results from a Student Survey
Student surveys provide a lot of information that school administrators can learn from. 36 The students' attitude towards their programs and services can be measured by averaging the results from the survey. Here's how to average these results.
37 The student survey must be purposeful and should acquire specific responses from students about specific school programs or services. If the survey is well designed to persuade honest answers from students, then the survey will achieve the best results.
After all the survey questionnaires have been filled and returned, the results can now be tabulated(制成表格). 38 To get the average from the student survey results, each answer must be added and the sum should be divided by the total number of student forms. This is the average number of respondents who answered a certain way.
On a survey question that provides levels of satisfaction, respondents can answer with numeric values(数值), from 1 to 10, according to how satisfied they are. If five forms were given and returned values of 2, 2, 5, 5 and 3, the sum would be 17 and then dividing that by 5 will get you an average satisfaction rating of 3. 4. 39
40 In the above satisfaction level survey, answer choices can be represented with a tick on "Yes" or "No". Out of fifty students who were given survey forms, about 45 students answered "No", rating 90 percent, and the remaining 5 answered "Yes", rating 10 percent.
Using numeric values is a simple way for respondents to rate questions or statements and would be easier to average the results at the end of the survey.
A. Answer choices can be designed in many ways.
B. The goals for conducting a survey must be clear.
C. First of all, handout student survey questionnaires.
D. The average can also be expressed as a percentage.
E. Then an average for each question can be calculated.
F. It means students aren't satisfied with the surveyed subject.
G. School managements can be improved through student feedback.
