Years ago, I was travelling around Australia with two friends. At that time, both friends had to leave early because of work, so I decided to travel to the Whitsunday Islands alone.
I got on a boat. Everyone on the boat, except me, was with friends. Not wanting to talk to strangers, I decided to take photos. The back of the boat was a good place to catch the wonderful view of the sea.
I walked there and saw a metal box standing there. I put my arms on it, without knowing it was a hot barbecue(烧烤架)!
“My God, it hurts!” crying in pain, I moved my arms away at once. Although there weren’t marks on my arms, I was in great pain. And I didn’t even have friends with me. I sat alone, trying not to cry. Finally my arms turned purple.
People on the boat saw this and came to help me. One girl offered me a special scald cream(烫伤膏).
After treatment, I felt much better. I could enjoy the beauty of the Whitsundays, talk to strangers on the boat and have fun with them.

What’s your dream job What do you think of working with penguins(企鹅) Each year, the UK pays four people to live and work on Goudier Island from November to March.
The island is about the size of a football field. It’s home to hundreds of penguins. The four people need to keep it clean and serve thousands of tourists. They also need to count the penguins and collect environmental data.
The job offers people a totally different experience. People have a chance to stay close to penguins. And they can watch the sun go down and hear the ice melting. So lots of people would like to take it.

“It’s quite hard work, ” explained an officer. “Workers may work 1hours a day. They need to keep the island clean. They spend a lot of time brushing penguin poop(粪便)off rocks. There is not much time for rest and fun.”

Conceil, Ned and I were taken inside the ship. Its captain Nemo showed us around. After he took us to the library and the gallery (画廊), he led us into a room, a museum with a great collection in it.
Captain Nemo was very proud of his collection and the ship—the Nautilus. Then, he took me to my cabin(房舱). It was a very comfortable bedroom and was next to his cabin. His cabin had an instrument panel (仪表板), and on this he could see everything that he needed to know to sail the Nautilus.
He told me that he had found a way to make electricity (电) using salt and mercury(汞). This electricity gave the Nautilus all the power it needed to move through the water. Huge pumps(泵) filled and emptied tanks of air and water to make the Nautilus sink or rise. I was surprised to find that the Nautilus even had a small dinghy(小艇). Captain Nemo could enter the dinghy from the Nautilus while it was underwater and go to the surface. Then. the Nautilus would come up to collect him. As we walked to the engine room(发动机舱), we passed the large kitchen and crew (船员)room. The door of the crew room was closed, so I could not see how many men were asked to work on the Nautilus.
Captain Nemo showed me the engine and explained how it worked. It was difficult to understand how the tanks, rudders and batteries worked. However, I had to believe it because the engine was working! “It must have cost a fortune(巨款)!” I exclaimed.
“Millions of dollars, he replied. “However, I have billions.”
