One of the most pleasant sounds in sports is the whoosh of a basketball moving quickly into the netting. Take away the net and all that is left is the unsatisfying silence of a ball pushing air around as it sails through the rim (篮圈). Did it even go through Sometimes it’s hard to tell.
So it was really a shame that in a small American town to which Anibal Amador moved from New York, there was no basketball net on any basketball court in any park. The retired worker was a basketball addict and so was his son, Frank, a high school student. When they had time, they would go to the nearby playground in the park and join the players there in playing basketball. However, without the nets, it just didn’t feel good and satisfactory. As a matter of fact, no one would like to play that way, for they couldn’t shoot the ball to their hearts’ content. Anibal often heard the players complain about it from time to time.
That was really something that bothered Anibal. One evening on their way home, he mentioned the problem to Frank, who suggested they should do something about it. Soon they took action. They took advantage of their spare time and did careful field research into the playgrounds around the neighborhood. Then Anibal visited the website of the town park department which was in charge of the basketball courts, uploaded what they had surveyed and put forward the suggestion that nets should be attached to the rims on basketball courts.
They waited and waited. After a long time, they finally got the response. The town park department said that nets were non-durable goods. If they did as suggested, they would have to be putting up nets all the time and maintaining so many basketball courts was a great expense, which they couldn’t afford. It wasn’t workable to keep nets on all the rims in all the parks, so they were terribly sorry that they couldn’t manage it.

Last Saturday night, I went to my classmate Frank's home to celebrate his eighteenth birthday. We had a fantastic time enjoying nice food, singing and dancing until late at night. Having said goodbye to Frank and his family, I rode my bike home.
There was nobody in the street and everything appeared so quiet with the street lights already off and the full moon in the sky. Still excited, I was humming a cheerful tune when suddenly I felt the front wheel of my bike run into something hard, which made me lose control of the handlebars. Out of balance, I fell down to the ground. By the light of the moon, I could make out it was a wallet lying there.
I picked the wallet up and opened it. There was a thick wad of cash and several credit cards in it. Looking around, I could find nobody in the dark street. Thinking the owner must be anxious with his wallet missing, I decided to reach him somehow as soon as possible. If I failed to contact the owner, then I would turn to the police for help.
But there wasn't any straightforward information at hand. I took out my cellphone, with whose flashlight I took a closer look at a credit card and on it I happily found the 24-hour hotline of the credit card company. It might be a chance, so I called the credit card company at once and explained that one of their clients named David Smith had lost his wallet, hoping they could offer me his phone number so that I could return it to him. However, I was told they had no right to disclose any detailed information of their clients. So I gave them my name and phone number, asking them to help inform the owner if possible.
Eager to return the wallet sooner, I examined it again and found a gym membership card, which bore a name Mary Smith and a phone number.

Adam, Nick, and Tom were best friends. Five years after their graduation from college, Nick called Adam and Tom, inviting them to celebrate his birthday on his personal yacht (游艇). They got very excited.
It was a bright and sunny summer day. As Nick was studying the safety measures of the sea journey, he saw Adam and Tom coming towards his yacht. With huge hugs and smiles on every face, the three greeted each other in their usual way. “Thank you boys for coming and making my birthday even more special,” said Nick.
“But before getting started, hope you both know there is a danger zone at a particular point on this sea, ” warned Adam.
“Don’t worry. I will stay away from it. Now let the party begin!” Nick responded, starting to turn the steering wheel (方向盘) of the yacht.
Treating the friends on the beautiful white yacht sailing on the blue water was a perfect idea. They were having a wonderful time, talking, eating and joking. How time flew! It started getting dark.
“Hey guys! It’s time to go back,” Tom shouted.
“Mr. Sailor, turn your ship’s wheel and take us back home,” said Adam.
Little did they know they were going to encounter life-threatening challenges ahead. Unknowingly, Nick crossed the danger zone Adam had mentioned earlier. When realizing this, Nick decided to make a turn immediately. Unfortunately, a strange noise came from the engine and then the yacht stopped. Expert at mending machines, Adam offered to examine the engine and asked Nick to fetch the tool box. Nick was hurrying to get it when he slipped, falling into the sea water.
“Nick!” Tom and Adam screamed.
Panicked, Nick started shouting for help. Tom rushed inside the yacht to get a life jacket to rescue Nick, but didn’t find one. Instead, he found a long rope and out he rushed with it.

【答案】One possible version
Anibal and Frank decided to address the problem on their own. They surfed the Internet for possible solutions and gladly found some videos teaching how to make nets. Having bargained with an online shop, they managed to buy many high-quality cotton strings at a low price. After that, they began making nets as shown in the video. The first one took them great energy, but practice makes perfect and soon they were skilled at it. They worked hard until late into the night. Looking at their fruits of labor, they were so overwhelmed with excitement that they couldn’t wait to fix them to the rims.
Everything ready, they came to a nearby basketball court with a stepladder (折梯). Frank climbed up the stepladder and carefully balanced atop it, fastening a net to a rim. Many players were attracted there, surprised but excited. When done, he was greeted with applauses. A player ran to shoot his ball, which sailed through the net perfectly and produced a satisfying sound of whoosh. It felt so wonderful both for the player and the audience! The people in the town were very grateful for the act of kindness from Anibal and Frank, who were filled with happiness and pride every time they saw people enjoying themselves playing basketball.

【答案】Para 1:
I took a chance and called the number. A lady answered, who turned out to be David's wife Mary. Having explained why I called, I heard Mary let out a cry of joy. She said her husband had been anxiously looking everywhere for the wallet. I told her where I was and that I'd be waiting there till they came. She promised to meet me as soon as possible and I breathed a sigh of relief. With time passing by, I felt colder and colder standing in the dark street.
Para 2:
Pacing up and down, I constantly looked around. About twenty minutes later, a car flashing its lights approached and stopped before me. Out of it came two persons, who were just Mary and David. Immediately I handed David the wallet and asked him to check it. He did so and gratefully said everything was in place. The couple insisted on giving me some cash in return, but I declined, saying I just did the right thing. Having thanked me repeatedly, they drove off. Bathed in the moonlight, I continued to ride home, filled with pride and happiness.

【答案】Just then Adam shouted on top of his voice, “Nick! Look, there’s a shark behind you!” Turning his head, Nick was shocked to find a black figure approaching him. Helpless and frightened, Nick swam towards the yacht like crazy. Tom quickly threw the rope down at Nick, who succeeded in grasping it. With all their strength, Tom and Adam pulled Nick up from the water before the shark could swallow him. But the hungry animal didn’t give up, swimming around the yacht for its dinner. Terrified as the three guys were, they knew they must do something to escape from the danger.
What they had to do was restart the yacht. Though wet through, Nick fetched the tool box in no time. With the tools Adam carefully examined the engine, found out the exact cause of its failure and managed to get the engine working. Its wonderful sound had everyone on board burst into cheers. With Nick turning the steering wheel, the yacht left the danger zone at full speed, leaving the lonely shark far behind. The young guys waved happily at it, heading straight back.
