Module 5 Lao She Teahouse Unit3 Language in use
Analysis of my students:
These eighth graders are active and can finish tasks quickly. But some of them are a little proud of themselves, and they don’t think carefully and logically before answering questions. And some of their learning methods are against the rules of learning a language.
Analysis of the teaching material:
This lesson comes from Module 5 Unit 3, it is for revision and application. In Unit 1, we learnt to describe one’s plan with infinitives. In Unit 2, we learnt how to describe a writer and a famous tourist interest. In Unit 3, it trains students’ abilities of reading, listening, speaking and writing. The object is to summarise and consolidate the use of infinitives and other important points.
Teaching objectives:
After this lesson, students will be able to:
1. use mind maps to describe a famous writer in detail;
2. write a simple review according to the sample;
3. make a plan for the coming weekend;
4. correctly use infinitives in real situation.
Emotional and cultural awareness:

Teaching key points:
1. Students can retell the information of a famous writer by using mind maps;
2. Students can use infinitives to make plans;
3. Students learn how to write a review.

1. Students may get confused about infinitives with and without “to”.
2. Students may have limited time to finish the tasks.

Show students the mind map. Use the mind map to retell the information about Lao She.

Show students information about Lu Xun with blanks. Read and fill in the blanks, pay attention to the usage of infinitives. To learn to finish their own mind map.
Ask students to finish the mind map. Read the passage again and finish the mind map with the help of partners.

Play the tape. Listen and choose the correct answers. Get to know “Romeo and Juliet” and “Globe Theatre”. To listen for specific information.
A theatre is a small society. Show pictures of some famous theatres. Students read “Around the world” and get to know some information about western theatres. To experience different cultures.
Show students some theatres in China. Think about some famous theatres in Hefei or China.
The best view is on the road. Ask students how to make a plan. Think about how to make a plan. To learn how to make a plan.
