教材学情分析Analysis Analysis of the teaching materialThis module is about the topic of weather. The previous unit has given the vacabulary about weather and the sentence patterns about saying possibilities. The reading text in this unit is about the best time to visit the USA according to its weather conditions. It introduces some important places of the USA and give advice on travelling there. The text is a good example of intrducing places and giving travelling advcie, thus suitable for imitative writing.Analysis of the students The students in this class are comparatively interverted, so they were reserved in giving dialogues about weather and possibilities. However, Most students are interested in travelling but they may need help with locations of the different places and the influence on travelling in the US. After learning this unit, with enough language input, including reading tasks and extensive reading on the recommended website, they will hopefully learn how to give advcie on travelling to a place they know well, for example, in China.

Step 1 Duty presentation and lead-in Warming-up song: The weather1. Play a warming-up song and write the title on the blackboard.2. Invite a student to give the oral presentation on travelling plans.3. Give remarks on the presentation and lead-in the title of the text. 1. Revise the topic of the module and get warmed up.2. Listen to the student's presentation and answer the comprehesive questions. To warm up and lead in the topic of travelling to the US
Step 2 Revision and vacabulary preparation 1. Ask the students to talk about the 2 pictures 2. Revise the vocabulary about weather and lead into the title of the text. 1. Work in pairs and talk about what they can see in the pictures.2. Revise what they have learned previously. To elicit words about weather in order to prepare the vocabulary for reading
Step 3 Scanning and Skimming 1. Lead the students to look at the title and read the first and the last paragraphs to find the answer to the question.2. Ask the students to pick out names of places and answer: How many places does the text talk about 3. Check the locations of the places and make sure that they learn how to express location. 4. Conclude ways of expressing the location of a place. You don’t need to read word for word and find the main idea of each paragraph and the places mentioned. This is skimming. So this is a passage telling us when is the best time to visit the US and it tells us 7 different places. We can enjoy different places in different time for different things to do there. 1. Scan and skim the text and tell the main idea.2. Fast read the passage for the specific information needed for the questions.3. Read the names of places aloud and learn how to talk about the location of a place. To learn how to get the main idea and extract quickly the simple facts through fast reading
Step 4 Detailed Reading 1. Ask the students to notice the different reading skills and give the table-completing task in the worksheet. 2. Play the sound clip and ask the students to work in groups and to complete the table.3. Check the table and write the structures used to talk about weather, to give advice and to give reasons on the blackboard.4. Concude the constructure of the text. 1. Read the text carefully with the sound clip.2. Discuss in groups to fill the table.3. The groups reports their work on the table. 4. Learn the ways of introducing the weather of a place and give advice on travelling from the text. To learn to summarize information with the help of a table and learn the structure of introducing a place
Step 5 Language focus 1. Check the meanings of the key words and teach how to use them.Ask the Ss to check the answers with the class. Pay attention to the use of key words “from time to time” and “compare”. 2. Ask the students to complete the sentences in pairs. Ask someone to write on the WB. 3. Check the sentences with the whole class.4. Play the video and ask the students to read the text again with the video. Show the map of China and ask the students to share what they have found on the given website the day before.6. Ask them to match the two parts of the sentences with because, so, but.7.
