第二节 (共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)
根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Are there too many books you’re never going to read again on your bookshelf Whether to start a little library with your book pals or to offer them as gifts to the younger ones is a good deed to do. 36
Donating your old books is a painless way to give. 37 It’ll arrange an offline book fair near your place if booked online, and in most cases it will fetch the books from you. Books2Africa accepts new and used books in English, French and any African language.
38 Most of them work in much the same way: you enter your book’s bar code (条形码) or ISBN number, and they’ll tell you its value. You post your books, and they offer payment. Or you can try checking how much your copy is worth on Abe Books. It’s worth remembering that books don’t have to be particularly old to be valuable. 39
For something a bit more community-driven, try joining a book exchange. BookMooch works on a points system: you receive a point for each book you mail to someone else, which you can then “spend” on someone else’s book. 40 BookCrossing is the act of releasing your books “into the wild”, aiming to connect people through literature.
So, if you have a pile of old books gathering dust, why not make them worthwhile for someone on the other end of the line
A. A book in need brings a friend indeed.
B. And here are some ways to get rid of them online.
C. There’s a pleasingly random selection of books on offer.
D. Bookshops also accept old books according to their values.
E. The Children’s Book Project aims to help by gifting books.
F. Sure, you can list your old books on the second-hand online bookshops.
G. A first-edition Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone is worth 70,000.

第二节 (共 5小题;每小题 2.5分,满分 12.5分)
阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Pollution
Pollution happens when the environment is dirtied, by waste, chemicals, and other harmful substances(物 质). Pollution is a problem all over the world. But it is especially bad in large cities with a lot of industries and
cars. 36
Wildfires, volcanoes, and industrial chemicals cause some air pollution. But most air pollution comes from burning fossil fuels (矿物燃料)These include coal, oil and natural gas. The burning of fossil fuels may release
harmful gases. Air pollution may cause such diseases cancer and asthma. It also leads to polluted rain that can
harm living things 37 Finally, air pollution damages the ozone layer(臭氧层)which is important
because it protects Earth against harmful rays from the sun.
Causes of water pollution are easy to see. People dump(倾倒) garbage and dirty water into river, lakes and oceans. Factories or cities sometimes release poisonous chemicals, and other wastes into water. These chemicals
may make the groundwater unfit to drink. 38
Littering, or throwing garbage on the ground, is a form of land pollution. Litter can destroy the habitats of plants and animals. The buildup of dangerous chemicals in the ground is another form of land pollution. The
chemicals may come from farms or factories. 39 They may even harm people who eat the polluted
plants and animals.
Many governments, environmental groups, and ordinary people are working to control pollution.
Governments have passed laws to keep people from releasing dangerous chemicals into the environment 40
Instead they are getting power from the sun, wind, water, and other energy sources to produce less pollution. Many communities use recycling to reduce pollution.
Farmers use chemical to help crops grow.
This type of pollution may be seen in big cities.
They also can harm fish and other forms of life.
These chemicals can spread to plants and animals.
In addition, air pollution may be a cause of global warming.
There are three main forms of pollution: air, water, and land.
Some companies and people are trying to use fewer fossil fuels.

第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Fall is our favourite hiking season. It5snottoo hot. The bugs are gone. Solitude (无人居住的地方)is easier to find. But fall hiking has its own complications, especially when it comes to weather. 36
Protect your feet. Pamper your feet, and they511 take you around the world. 37 A pair of suede or synthetic shoes will offer great comfort, without a big "breaking in” process. They dry fast, and aren't tough on the wallet. If you5re going for longer treks (跋涉),then you511 want footwear that offers support, comfort, weather resistance, and durability.
Backpacks. 38 Size. For a short hike, a daypack is best. It's light, practical, and big enough to carry the essentials (you've looking for something between 15 and 35 L). For longer hikes, look for a pack between 30-50 L with an integrated frame (to prevent the bag from putting too much pressure on your back and shoulders).
Stay hydrated (含水的).Yes, the heatwaves of summer are probably gone for the year, but packing enough water is vital in any season. 39 For longer treks, consider a hydration reservoir, which can carry anywhere from 0.5 to 10 L. No need to search in your pack for your water bottle; just enjoy a sip from the handy tube.
40 Changeable fall can transform a sunny morning into a wet, cold afternoon. After a forest hike, the wind atop the lookout can bite. Dress in layers. If it's warm, you can take a layer off to prevent sweating. If it's cool, you can add a layer back on. Softshells are easily packable and light. They keep wind and water off, and are easy to take on and off as needed. Dressing for your trek Check the forecast before hitting the trails.
Number one criterion
Keep warm and dry.
Like only cheep shoes
Just going short distances
Having enough water will keep you energetic.
Before heading out, check out this handy fall hiking checklist.
For shorter hikes, this might just mean filling up your favourite water bottle.
