What should we do if
we encounter a bear
Identify yourself by talking calmly so the bear knows you are a human and not a prey animal. Remain still; stand your ground but slowly wave your arms.
Stay calm. Do not make any loud noises or screams—the bear may think it’s the sound of a prey animal.
Hike and travel in groups. Groups of people are usually noisier and smellier than a single person. Therefore, bears often become aware of groups of people at greater distances.
Make yourselves look as large as possible (eg: move to higher ground).
Don’t allow the bear access to your food. Getting your food will only encourage the bear and make the problem worse for others.
Don’t run.Bears can run as fast as a racehorse both uphill and down. Like dogs, they will chase eeing animals.
Don’t climb a tree. Both grizzlies and black bears can climb trees.
Brown/Grizzly Bears
Black Bears
If you are attacked by a brown/grizzly bear, leave your pack on and PLAY DEAD. Lay at on your stomach with your hands clasped behind your neck. Spread your legs to make it harder for the bear to turn you over. Remain still until the bear leaves the area. Fighting back usually increases the intensity of such attacks. However, if the attack persists, fight back violently. Use whatever you have at hand to hit the bear in the face.
If you are attacked by a black bear, DO NOT PLAY DEAD. Try to escape to a secure place such as a car or building. If escape is not possible, try to ght back using any object available. Concentrate your kicks and blows on the bear's face and muzzle.

Humans and animals, we are both the native creatures, we should respect all the animals that exist in the universe, and treat them kindly.
Live in harmony with nature and animals.
1. As a nature photographer, I have to brave the elements.
brave the elements: to go out in bad weather
We decided to brave the elements and go for a walk (= go for a walk despite the bad weather).
2. Despite a weight of up to 300 kilograms, they can run at a speed of around 64 kilometres per hour and are also excellent swimmers.
despite prep.
eg I still enjoyed the week despite the weather.
Despite applying for hundreds of jobs, he is still out of work.
despite prep.与名词(短语)或v-ing形式连用,作状语;
although conj.
Although the bears weigh up to 300 kilograms, they can run at a speed of around 64 kilometres per hour…
despite意思上相当于in spite of (尽管)。
despite / in spite of 后跟句子时,常用结构despite / in spite of the fact that ...
eg She went to Spain in spite of / despite the
fact that her doctor had told her to rest.
in spite of / despite oneself
eg In spite of / Despite myself, I began to
enjoy the movie.
In spite of / Despite the fact that I was ill, I still went to school yesterday.

concentrate on: to give most of your attention or effort to one thing
eg Doctors are aiming to concentrate more on prevention than cure.
本句中that I was being watched为连接词that引导的同位语从句,说明feeling的具体内容。
eg The news that he won the game excited us a lot.
I received a message that she would be late.
4. It is after all we who are the visitors to their world.
1) after all 毕竟,终究
Why are you so anxious It isn’t your problem after all.
People may have different opinions about Karen, but I admire her. After all, she is a great musician.
2) It is/was … who/that …
It is I who am to blame for the carelessness.
It was at six o’clock that the accident happened.
