When she was alone, Mary felt lonelier than ever. She went out of the house and ran around the garden ten times. Ben Weatherstaff was working in it.
"Spring is coming, " he said to Mary. "I can smell it in the air. Soon there will be spring flowers. "
At this moment, the robin flew toward them and landed at Mary's feet.
"He remembers me, "she said.

the robin.
"He showed me where to find the key, "she thought. "Can you show me where the door is "
The robin sat on the top of the garden wall. It began to sing. The wall was covered with ivy.
Mary pulled at a piece of the ivy. It came away from the wall. Behind the wall was a door. Mary put the key in the lock of the door and turned it. The door opened. Only seconds later, Mary was inside the secret garden.

We always think that it’s OK for us to leave our plants home during our vacation as plants won't
scream like pets, right
A recent study done by a group of scientists at the Tel Aviv University has discovered that some
plants will scream when they are under stress.
The research was carried out on tomato plants and tobacco plants by cutting their stems(茎)and depriving(剥夺) them of water. A microphone was placed 10 cm away from them. When their stems were cut, the plants started "screaming" between 20 and 100 kilohertz, and the scientists guessed that this scream was probably meant to warn other plants nearby.
When the tomato plants' stems were cut, 25 ultrasonic(超声的) pain sounds were recorded in an hour, and at the same time, 15 ultrasonic pain sounds were recorded from the tobacco plants. When they were deprived of water, the tomato plants were recorded with even more pain sounds---35 pain sounds in an hour, while the tobacco plants were recorded with about 11 pain sounds.
The plants also acted differently to different kinds of stress. For example, the tobacco plants gave out a stronger "scream" when they were deprived of water than when their stems were cut, But plants that were in no immediate(立刻的) danger gave out less than one ultrasonic sound per hour.
The group of scientists said that plants are not as quiet as we had always thought, but in fact their voices are so high-pitched that we just can't hear them.
Last year, another study found out that plants feel pain when they are touched or hurt and they will
give off a terrible smell.

( )27. How many ultrasonic pain sounds did the tobacco plants give out in an hour when deprived of water
A. 11. B. 15. C. 25. D. 35.
( )28. What can we learn from the passage

B. Tobacco plants gave off a smell when they were safe.
C. Plants not in immediate danger screamed most weakly.
D. Plants that felt pain screamed loudly for people to hear.

A well-known poem by the Tang Dynasty poet Du Mu tells of a sad scene in early April, "Rains
fall heavily as Qingming comes, and passersby with lowered spirits go. "
This scene takes place on Tomb Sweeping Day, also known as Qingming Festival. Tomb Sweeping Day is a traditional Chinese festival. It began in the Zhou Dynasty, over 2, 500 years ago. Chinese people celebrate it to remember and honour their ancestors(祖先). Tomb Sweeping Day became a public holiday in the Chinese mainland in 2008. People have one day off for that day.
On this day, families bring flowers, food and wine to the grave sites(墓地) of their ancestors. They place cakes and fruits in front of the graves and some may burn joss paper, as money for the dead. After that, they sweep the tombs and cherish (怀念) the memories of their dead family members.
Tomb Sweeping Day gives us a chance to show respect to our ancestors and family members who have passed away and show that we miss them. This tradition shows that family values are an important part of Chinese culture.
Tomb Sweeping Day is also the beginning of the time for gardening and outdoor activities in China. Families often get together for outings or to fly kites at this time.

"Be patient, " Mother Nature replied. "Soon you will get to know your purpose. "Just then, Squirrel appeared. She was cold. She asked if she could build a warm home in branches(树枝).
