I watched the stable door, where the smoke came out thicker than ever. But the next moment I saw James coming through the smoke, leading Ginger with him. “My brave boy!” said the master. “Are you hurt ” James shook his head. After a fire engine (消防车) arrived, the master led us to a large hotel on the other ‘side. Then he hurried off to find his wife.
The next morning, he came to see how we were and talked about the fire the night before. James said that he asked Towler to go up to put down some hay (干草). but also told him to put down his pipe first. Although Towler said he did this, nobody believed him.
We also heard there were two poor horses buried (埋) under the stable. Ginger and I were sad about this. Our mistress (女主人) also had been alarmed (恐慌的) all through the night, so the journey was put off till the afternoon. But luckily, James saved us from the terrible accident.

If you sometimes feel like you have a lot in your mind, writing may be a good way to express yourself. That’s how Mo Yan, the winner of the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2012, started his career. “I find writing is the freest and the most powerful way to express myself,” said Mo Yan in an interview.
Mo Yan was born in 1955 and grew up in Gaomi, Shandong Province. He has been interested in books since he was very young. Unluckily, he had to leave school at an early age and started to work at 12. But he never gave up reading books. In 1976, he joined the army and began to study literature and writing. His love of literature finally put him on the road to success. Mo said that Pu Songling’s great works helped form his writing style. Pu Songling (1640-1715), born in a village of Shandong Province, was famous for his work Strange Stories from a Chinese Studio. Many famous ghost stories are from it. “I grew up in an environment immersed (沉浸) with folk culture, which naturally comes into my novels when I pick up a pen to write. This has influenced my works’ style,” he said.
During his lifetime, Mo has written many popular novels, such as Red Sorghum, Frog, The Republic of Wine, and Life and Death Are Wearing Me Out. What’s more, Red Sorghum was adapted (改编) into a film and a TV series years ago.
