“Madam. how much time do you spend cleaning the floors ” “A lot of time. This is a farm and things get dirty quickly,” said the woman.
“And how much time do you spend beating the carpets (地毯) ” asked Henry.
“A lot of time. My dog lays on them and it always makes a mess on the carpets.”
“Well,” said Henry. “this is your lucky day.” Henry showed her his vacuum cleaner and said, “You can clean the house in 5 minutes with it.”
The farmer’s wife didn’t look interested, but Henry still took out a big bag of dirt (尘土). He opened it and threw it all over the floor. The farmer’s wife was very surprised. Before she could speak, Henry said, “Madam, if this machine doesn’t pick up every last piece of dirt, I will eat all of it!” The farmer’s wife looked at Henry and said, “WELL, I WILL GET YOUASPOON. ECHO is a four-wheeled yellow robot. It has just completed its first year of living with emperor penguins in Antarctica (南极洲). ECHO is working to record penguin population changes. American researchers hope to use the robot as part of a 30-year
project looking at the impact of climate change (气候变化的影响) in Antarctica. ECHO spends its days scanning electronic tags (扫描电子标签) on the penguins. The tags are stuck by researchers when penguins are five month sold. Tracking (追踪) them allows the researchers to see population changes, which may be a direct effect of climate change.
The tags. however, can only be read from 1-2 metres away. This is why the robot is needed. “As a human, you cannot walk around and scan15,000 or 24,000 penguins each year—it’s impossible,” said one of the researchers, Daniel Zitterbart.
Although ECHO is very different from its neighbours, the robot, which is less than 1 metre tall, lives in harmony with the penguins. They don’t seem to be afraid of it and don’t mind it when it comes near. “If a human tries to do the same job as ECHO, the penguins will run away,” Zitterbart said. “And we don’t want to scare the animals. Our main purpose is to do more research with less influence. A robot has a much smaller impact on the penguins than humans do.”
Now ECHO is being improved. The researchers are trying to improve the robot’s battery life, which only lasts a day. They are also looking fora way to protect the robot from sudden snowstorms. In the future, ECHO will be able to work better and help researchers know more about emperor penguins and Antarctica.
57. What is ECHO’s task
A. Looking for 5-month-old emperor penguins. B. Recording all kinds of changes in Antarctica.
C. Sticking electronic tags on emperor penguins. D. Collecting information from the penguins’ tags.
58. The underlined phrase “lives in harmony with” means “ ______ ”.

He did the best he could, cleaning my legs and my chest (胸膛), but he did not put apiece of cloth on me. He thought I was so hot that I would not like it. He gave me some cold water to drink. (二) 阅读并回答问题, 每题答案不超过6个词。
If you have a question, you may want to get a quick answer online. Some technology companies are working to make this come true by developing chatbots. They are computer programmes (程序) that can communicate with people by phone, on messaging apps or on websites. So far, they have been widely used in our daily life.
Chatbots can look up information, answer frequently (经常地) asked questions and collect information from users. They can also be used for online shopping to help people decide what to buy.
A closed chatbot may or may not use AI (人工智能) to understand messages from users. An open chatbot uses AI to know what people want and to create a reply. Open chatbots are able to learn from their conversations and then improve their ability to communicate over time. This means that open chatbots can answer a wider range (范围) of questions, compared with closed chatbots.
One important advantage of chatbots is that they are available all the time, even in the middle of night. What’s more, a chatbot can serve many users at once. This means that people can get answers quickly instead of waiting for the reply of a human representative.
However, chatbots can’t completely take the place of human representatives. Someone has to programme the chatbots at the beginning and train them. Sometimes, open chatbots can’t give answers to some detailed questions. Besides, many people prefer speaking to a human rather than a chatbot.
Although chatbots have some limitations (局限), they are changing the way that customers communicate with businesses and will continue to do so.
71. What are chatbots
72. What is the second paragraph mainly about
73. How many kinds of chatbots are introduced in this passage
