(2022·浙江·宁波市北仑中学高一开学考试)Every man wants his son to be somewhat of a clone, not in features but in footsteps. As he grows you also age, and your dreams become more unachievable. You begin to realize that your boy, in your footsteps, could probably finish what you hoped for. But footsteps can be muddied and they can go off in different directions.
My son Jody has hated school since day one in kindergarten. Science projects waited until the last moment. Book reports weren’t written until the deadline.
I’ve been a newspaperman all my adult life. My daughter is a university graduate working toward her master’s degree (硕士学位) in English. But Jody When he entered the tenth grade he became a “vo-tech” student (技校学生). They’re called “motorheads” by the rest of the student body.
When a secretary in my office first called him “motorhead”, I was shocked. “Hey, he’s a good kid,” I wanted to say. “And smart, really.”
I learned later that motorheads are, indeed, different. They usually have dirty hands and wear dirty work clothes. And they don’t often make school honor rolls (光荣榜).
But being the parent of a motorhead is itself an experience in education. We who work in clean shirts in offices don’t have the abilities that motorheads have. I began to learn this when I had my car crashed. The cost to repair it was about $ 800. “Hey, I can fix it,” said Jody. I doubted it, but let him go ahead, for I had nothing to lose.
My son, with other motorheads, fixed the car. They got parts from a junk yard, and ability from vo-tech classes. The cost was $ 25 instead of $ 800.
Since that first repair job, a broken air-conditioner, a non-functioning washer and a non-toasting toaster have been fixed. Neighbors and co-workers trust their car repairs to him.
These kids are happiest when doing repairs. They joke and laugh and are living in their own relaxed world. And their minds are bright despite their dirty hands and clothes.
I have learned a lot from my motorhead: publishers need printers, engineers need mechanics, and architects need builders. Most important, I have learned that fathers don’t need clones in footsteps or anywhere else.
My son may never make the school honor roll. But he made mine.

(2022·全国·高一课时练习)When families get together, we hope for fun times characterized by love and bonding, but we often find that family conflicts occur during these times as well. In fact, in most families, there are longstanding patterns of interaction and roles that people traditionally play within these interactions. These interactions can be positive, but when they’re negative, they can bring high amounts of stress to a family gathering.
How often have you had an experience where you knew you were going to see your family and could predict in advance what annoying or frustrating interactions you might have with certain family members, and things went exactly as you’d hoped they wouldn’t While you can’t control the actions of others, you can control your response to their actions, which can alter the whole dynamic and create more positive interactions. In fact, Dr. Kathleen Kelley Reardon, USC Marshall School professor estimates that 75% of how people treat us is under our control because of this.
“Communication is like chess where every move one person makes influences the choices of the other,” says Reardon. “A good rule of thumb is to not say what you would normally say in response to any provocation. If you think you’re being blamed for something, instead of getting your back up, try saying, “There’s some truth to that” or “I hadn’t thought of it that way but I see your point.”
If you’re anticipating conflict the next time you get together with certain people, you may want to think about things ahead of time and identify patterns you’ve experienced before, think about potential choice points, and consider alternative responses you may choose.
Try to come up with a few solutions for each possibility and think about what would feel right for you. Rather than getting caught up in the usual conflict and hurt feelings, try to imagine what tone you’d like the conversation to take, and see if you can lead the interaction in that direction with your own responses at pivotal choice points.
Learning better conflict resolution skills, knowing what to avoid in a conflict, and how to cool off when upset can also help immensely.
14.What can we know in the first two paragraphs
A.Enjoyable family gatherings are preferred.
B.Patterns of interaction are changeable in a family.
C.There are rarely family conflicts in most families.
D.Neither the actions of others nor yours can you control.
15.What should we do if we are blamed by someone according to Reardon
A.Convey your point to him or her.
B.Deny there’s some truth to that.
C.Get your back up and argue with him or her.
D.Make him or her know that you understand them.
16.Which is improper to deal with a conflict with family members
A.Predict the conflict and find a way to solve them.
B.Imagine what tone you'd like the conversation to take.
C.Get caught up in the usual conflict and hurt feelings.
D.Learn conflict resolution skills and know what to avoid in a conflict.
17.Which of the following best states the theme of the passage
A.Find Best Times to Have Family Gatherings
B.Change negative interactions into positive ones
C.Realize the importance of family relationships
D.Resolve Family Conflicts and Relieve Stress

He knew the answer before he asked, but he asked anyway. I answered, “Dad, I know you can’t pull it for all the cows, but for a few you will do great. (2022·湖南·雅礼中学高一开学考试)What is a family Why does it matter What does it teach us that we can’t learn on our own These questions seem especially relevant in the holiday season when it is often our tradition to gather as families and celebrate together.
My mother was one of twelve children. As they grew up, married and had children of their own, most of them lived near enough to gather for holidays at my grandparents’ home in a small town in the mountains of North Carolina.
I don’t recall getting many gifts from them. I remember the sense of belonging, of being part of something that assured me I was loved and not alone.
I delighted in the laughing, playing and fighting with my crazy cousins.
I watched my granddad and uncles sit on the porch (门廊), rain or shine, smoking and joking, arguing about politics and trying to solve the problems of the world.
I listened to my grandmother, mother and aunts stir pots on the stove and talk about their lives, hopes, dreams and disappointments, and gossip about any sister who failed to show up.
The food was always plentiful and delicious – country ham, sweet potatoes, green beans, biscuits and my grandmother’s banana pudding. But for me, the food was never the highlight. The highlight was simply being together. A family.
However, they’re all gone now. My parents and grandparents, my aunts and uncles have left this world for the next. My cousins are scattered (分散) here and there. And yet the memories linger, along with the love that we shared.
I treasure those memories and the things they taught me. They told me that families aren’t perfect, but they prepare us to find our way in an imperfect world. They made me realize that all families are crazy in their own peculiar (独特的) ways.
My husband and I are growing a new family, while keeping close to the surviving members of the families. It’s a beautiful blend (混合) of kindness, traditions, nurturing (养育) and friendships, which grows year after year.
I hope this holiday season will fill you with lovely memories of the family that raised you, and surround you with all the people who mean “family” to you now.
26.The author appreciated the gatherings mainly because ________.
A.special gifts were selected thoughtfully
B.there was a lot of inviting food
C.they brought the family closer together
D.she got to see relatives who seldom visited
27.What did the author learn from her families
A.Imperfection can be perfect sometimes.
B.Teaching by example is better than teaching by words.
C.We have to live with imperfections.
D.It’s necessary to create peculiar family traditions.
28.The author wrote this article mainly to ________.
A.share the significance of family
B.describe her family relationships
C.recall the memories of family gatherings
D.share her thoughts about big families

【导语】这是一篇记叙文。作者通过叙述亲人在一起的快乐,以及对离世亲人的回忆说明了家的重要性。
26.推理判断题。根据第七段中“But for me, the food was never the highlight. The highlight was simply being together. A family.” (但是对我来说,食物从来都不是重点。最重要的是在一起。一家人。)可知,作者认为聚会中最重要的是一家人在一起,因此推断作者欣赏聚会主要是因为聚会让家人们在一起,更亲近了。故选A项。
27.推理判断题。根据倒数第三段中“They told me that families aren’t perfect, but they prepare us to find our way in an imperfect world.”(他们告诉我,家庭并不完美,但是家庭可以让我们在不完美世界中为找到自己的生活方式做好准备。)由此判断出,作者从家庭中明白了一个道理:不完美的家庭可能会帮助我们适应世界。我们必须带着不完美生活。故选C项。
28.推理判断题。根据第一段中“What is a family Why does it matter What does it teach us that we can’t learn on our own These questions seem especially relevant in the holiday season when it is often our tradition to gather as families and celebrate together.”(什么是家庭 为什么它很重要 它教会了我们靠自己学不到的什么 这些问题似乎在节日期间尤其相关,因为我们的传统是一家人聚在一起庆祝。)以及下文叙述亲人在一起的快乐,以及对离世亲人的回忆由此判断出,作者写这篇文章主要是为了分享她对大家庭的看法。故选D项。
