much time playing computer games.
However, you can’t do this anymore. On
Aug. 30, 2021, the government set new
rules to cut online gaming time for people under the age of 18 in China in order to stop gaming addiction.
Under the rules, children can only play online games for one hour a night on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, or holidays. On these nights, online gaming will only be allowed between 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. The companies must also make sure that users register(注册) with their real names.The government says the move is to protect the health of children because online gaming can take kids’ attention away from their families and schoolwork.
In fact, under earlier rules, children could play online games for 1.5 hours on any day and three hours on holidays. But many parents called for even stricter limits(限制), Xinhua reported.
The new rules quickly caused a discussion. Some people say “yes” to them, while others say the new rules are too strict.
“Children can’t control themselves, so they need help to stop playing games online,” one person wrote on Sina Weibo.
Others worry about loopholes(漏洞). “What if kids use their parents’ or relatives’ names to register ” another person asked.
