Daming: What was the most dangerous thing that ever happened in your work
Tony: Going into the desert (沙漠) without careful preparation is very dangerous. For example, if you don’t take enough water, it means death. Getting lost is another danger. We also have to be careful with snakes.
Daming: Where do you work
Tony: I always find myself in desert areas, but they can look very different. We get to a place by car and then we walk, walk, walk. You can’t see anything if you don’t walk. I usually avoid going to big dune (沙丘) areas by myself. I make sure we have several cars and plenty of gas and water.
Daming: What is a working day like you
Tony: On a working day, we get up early, get all the things together, ready the cars and check everything. Sometimes we drive a long way, forget something necessary, like water, and have to go back. We eat a packed lunch in the field and then work until 4 or 5 p.m. in the Middle East. We often work during the winter. After supper we wash, write about our work that day, then take a break and go to bed early.
Daming: What is the hardest part of your work
Tony: The hardest part of work is being lonely. The days are long, and I miss my family and my friends. I’m a sports fan. I like to play basketball and tennis and watch all sorts of sports on television, so I miss that very much when I’m in the field.

If you walk along the River Thames, there are lots of interesting buildings to see. Running through the heart of London, there are also many galleries, markets, shops and activities to keep you busy along its banks. You will also see a strange round building. It looks very old and very different from all the others. This is Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre (莎士比亚环球剧场).
The Globe Theatre was first built here in 1599. William Shakespeare was one of the most famous writers that ever lived. His plays were performed in the theatre for many years. However, in 1613, a fire broke out during a performance. The theatre was destroyed (毁坏), but the second was built the following year. It remained a theatre until 1644, and then it was pulled down to build houses. The modern (and also the third) Globe Theatre was completed in 1997, over 350 years later. This was done to honor Shakespeare, the most famous English writer. To this day, his many plays are performed there daily. He wrote around thirty-eight plays. They are comedies (funny stories) , histories (about historical events and people), and tragedies (serious and sad stories). People come from all over the world to watch them at the Globe Theatre. They are performed in exactly the same way as they were hundreds of years ago.
The building is round and made mostly of wood. There are simple seats on three different levels all around the sides. Everyone can see the stage. However, there is no roof (屋顶) in the middle! The cheapest tickets are standing tickets. You stand in the middle, right in front of the actors, but if it rains, you will get wet!

Two months ago, my son Eric lost his trombone (长号). We were very sad.
We learned that telling friends about our sad things made us feel better and less worried. We received sweet messages from friends showing their care for us. Eric received the sweetest letter reminding us that although things in life can be sad and make us upset, we can still find kindness around us.
And then, another student at a different school heard about the situation and decided to give his trombone to my son. It turned out that it was the same kind as the lost one.
We met this young man who gave it to Eric. He hoped that Eric should never stop learning and making music.
We were so thankful and happy. Eric had his first concert a couple of weeks ago. One thing about kindness is that to the receiver of kindness, it might not be necessary, but to the giver who wants to change things for the better, it becomes really necessary.
We are really thankful for everyone’s kindness. And we are thankful that the trombone got lost. It taught us so much about other people’s healing (治愈的) power, even people we have never met before.

B. Eric’s classmate lent his trombone to Him
C. Eric had his first concert a few weeks ago
D. Eric’s mother stopped him learning and making music
4. Why was the writer thankful that the trombone was lost
A. Because she could buy her son a new one.
B. Because she got many people’s care and kindness.
C. Because she found the trombone at last.
D. Because her son didn’t need the trombone any more.
5. What can be the best title for the passage
A. Everyone is good in our life
B. Share your kindness and make others happy
C. A lost trombone and the necessary kindness
D. What happened when Eric got a new trombone
Ⅳ. 任务型阅读。(共 5 小题,每小题 2 分,满分 10 分)
If you receive an email that looks something like this: ARE YOU GOING TO CLASS TODAY How do you feel by reading this message Why did the sender use all capital letters Was he or she angry, or did that person just forget to turn off the “Caps Lock” on the keyboard The fact is that this email is usually the way that people shout online. Knowing when to and when not to use capital letters is just one example of online manners. Here are some other suggestions about dos and don’ts for communicating suitably with others on the Internet.
First, always remember that you are sending messages to a real person, not just to a computer. The person who receives your messages cannot hear the tone of your voice, or see the expression on your face, so make sure your meaning is clear.
Remember that people judge ( 判断 ) you by your words as well as your actions, so try to write well. Good writing skills, as well as correct grammar and spelling, do matter. Send polite, well-written email messages to others.
Remember that arguing online is not suitable. It’s okay to show your ideas online. But don’t start arguments with people. “Flame wars” (口水战) can be interesting to read, but they are often unfair to other members of the group.
Don’t do anything online that you wouldn’t do in real life. Don’t type anything that you wouldn’t say to anyone. Don’t take anything without paying for it, unless it’s free. Don’t use information that someone else has written and said it’s yours. Don’t read other people’s emails — you won’t open your next-door neighbor’s mailbox or read their mails, right
When you’re online, just as in real life, try to respect other people’s space, privacy and feelings. Remember you are not the only one who is travelling on this highway!

How time flies! The middle school life is coming to an end. I am eager to share my happiness and sadness with you. I have so many memories in the three years’ life.
One of them impressed me very much. I still remember when I began to learn English, I found it too difficult. No matter how hard I tried, I still couldn’t do well in it and almost gave it up. As soon as my English teacher found my problem, she had a talk with me about how to learn English well. Since then, she has kept helping me. Little by little, I’ve become interested in English and I’m good at it. I’ve learned a lot from her.
Though I have to say goodbye to her soon, I still think I am so lucky to be her student.
