How to Learn Vocabulary in a Foreign Language
It is not unusual that language learners regard vocabulary learning as the biggest block, especially in foreign language learning. ____16____ Try the following strategies to breeze through foreign language vocabulary tests and know words for life.
Trust flashcards. While they seem a little bit out of date flashcards are still an effective way to learn vocabulary. They’re also cheap and easy to make. You can keep some flashcards on you and quiz yourself whenever you have a few spare minutes throughout the day. Traditional written cards are useful. ____17____ No matter which kind, the key to flashcards is repetition — use them often, and quiz yourself on old flashcards, too.
Employ multimedia sources to enrich your learning. Watching films and other videos in foreign languages gives you chances to learn new vocabulary and to hear how it is used in authentic speech. If you are interested in the sources, you are more likely to pay attention and learn. ____18____ Podcasts, YouTube videos, songs and similar sources can all be great ways to learn.
Work with new words rather than just look at them. Studies show that learners need to encounter words several times in different contexts before they really stick. To speed this process up, whenever you learn a new word, look at how it is used in context, and then follow a series of steps. Pronounce the word and spell it. Refer to a dictionary for the meaning of it. ____19____
____20____ Practicing your foreign language with a local partner or someone who knows it well supercharges your learning. Not only will you have the chance to put your knowledge into action and build confidence in speaking, you’ll also learn new vocabulary from you partner. All while having fun!
A. Communicate with a fluent speaker.
B. So get the kind of the best quality.
C. However, it doesn’t have to be so painful!
D. Make up a sentence with it in your own words.
E. Practice copying it as often as you can to memorize it.
F. Creating virtual ones through apps is also a wise option.
G. Therefore, it is of importance to choose some you prefer!

When it comes to breaking rules during a job search, career coach Angela Copeland encourages jobseekers to think beyond the normal barriers or unspoken rules.
“It’s always been my philosophy that you have to think outside the box. ____16____ because then no one is going to know who you are,” says Copeland. The best jobs, she says, go to those who try harder, who are creative and who break the rules in their job search.
Copeland offers four top rules to break while looking for a job.
1. Don’t listen to HR about how to apply.
The standard line is to apply for a job online. Copeland suggests finding other ways to apply, too, whether it is in person, via a headhunter or through a friend inside the company. ____17____.
2. Don’t worry if you don’t meet all qualifications.
____18____. The hiring manager will be interviewing candidates who don’t have all the qualifications, which often is a wish list for the company. There will be parts of the job description that are optional or that they’re willing to teach you.
3. Don’t worry about bothering people.
Put yourself out there and network with people in your industry. Attend events and reach out to people by email or phone. Out of 10 contacts, you may only have three who respond. ____19____.
4. Don’t be afraid of social media.
When applying for jobs, know that potential employers will Google you and look through your social media profiles. ____20____. But also use social media to meet new people. Many senior executives manage their own accounts online, and it’s good to engage with them when possible.
A. Keep them professional and updated
B. You can’t count on everyone to lend you a hand
C. But one of those could lead you to your new job
D. You can’t be so worried about following the rules
E. Applying in person often is the most effective method
F. Challenge yourself to think differently and to take risks
G. If you want a job and think you can do it, you should apply anyway

Many people think of guys as being carefree when it comes to their appearance. But in fact, a lot of guys spend plenty of time in front of the mirror. They care just as much as girls do about their body image.
Body image is a person’s opinions and feelings about his or her own body and physical appearance. 36 You appreciate your body for its capabilities and accept its imperfections.
37 Here are some ideas.

Or perhaps you have non-sports skills, like drawing, painting, singing, playing a musical instrument, writing, or acting.
38
Exercise regularly.
Exercise can help you look well and feel good about yourself. Good physiques(体形) don’t just happen. 39 A healthy habit can be as simple as exercising 20 minutes to 1 hour three days a week. Working out can also lift your spirits.
Respect your body.
Practicing good habits — regular showering; taking care of your teeth, hair, and skin; wearing clean clothes, and so on — can help you build a positive body image.
40
Your body is just one part of who you are. Your talent for comedy a quick wit (智慧), and all the other things make you unique. So try not to let small imperfections take over.
A. Be yourself.
B. Just explore talents that you feel good about.
