In Ms. Cox's class, the students are working on a group project. They are discussing their plans for the future.
Brian: What do you want to be when you grow up,
Jenny
Jenny: I think I'd like to be a pilot. I love to travel, and
it would be fun to fly an airplane. What do you
want to be
Brian: I want to be a boss and manage a big company.
I could make a lot of money.

Jenny: Well, I don't doubt you would be a good boss,
but I don't think wealth is the most important
thing in life. We should do things we enjoy. You
like painting, and you are good at it.
Brian: That's true. Perhaps I can be a painter. How
about you, Steven
Steven: Me I'd like to be a transportation engineer.
I would invent things that help improve the
environment. Maybe I could invent a solar-
powered plane.

grow up长成;成熟;发展
拓展:grow into 长成,成长为
grow out 长出,发芽

grow from 由...长大,由...发展起来

5. I love to travel, and it would be fun to
fly an airplane.
我喜欢旅行,开飞机旅行会很有趣。could, would都是表推测的情态动词。其所指时间几乎总是“现在”,说话人的主观看法总是以现在时间为基点的。
可能性大小,一般 might最低,must最高,由低到高的顺序:might (可能) → may (可能) → could (可能) → can (可能) → should (应该会) → ought to (必然) → would (会) → will (会) → must (一定)。
6. I want to be a boss and manage a

我想成为老板管理一个大公司。
(1) v. 管理
(2) manage to do sth. 设法做成某事 (完成困难的事)

no doubt 无疑
without doubt 毫无疑问
doubt 后接宾语从句时,如主句是肯定句,由 if / whether 引导从句。
e.g. I doubt whether (if ) he is clever.
我怀疑他是否聪明。
如主句是否定或疑问句,用that 连接。
I don’t doubt that he will be successful.
我肯定他会成功。
10. As for me, I’m going to choose the most fun and exciting job in the world.
至于我,我打算选择世界上最有趣、最激动人心的工作。
as for 至于;关于(引出新的话题,与前面内容有一定联系,补充前文,引出后文。)
e.g. As for the thief, he was caught by
the police.
至于那个小偷,他被警察抓住了。
As for my achievement, I have
much to say.

11. Astronauts need to know a lot about
science, Danny.
丹尼,宇航员需要懂得很多科学知识。
1) a lot意为“很;非常;大量”可用来修
饰动词 talk a lot
2) a lot of “很多”可修饰可数名词复数
或不可数名词 a lot of information
3) a lot 修饰比较级
The patient felt a lot better.
e.g. There are a lot of books in our school
library.
我们学校图书馆有许多书。
e.g. We have a lot of time to make our plan.
我们有很多的时间来制定我们的计划。
e.g. Do you wear your new watch a lot

Look at the job words you found above in Activity 2. Think about these questions:

● What job do you like best in the list

PROJECT
In small groups, organize a list of jobs. Then present your list to the class or to another group of students.
Next, choose a job that you want when you grow up. Choose a job that matches your talents and interests. You can choose any job – it doesn’t have to be on the list.
Now think! What do you need to do to get this job How can you get ready for it Make a plan.
