The Chinese Lunar (农历) New Year is the most important festival for the
Chinese, which falls on the first day of the first month in the Chinese
lunar calendar.
On the New Year’s Eve they have a family feast. Then they stay up till
midnight to welcome the New Year letting off firecrackers. On New Year’s Day,
people paste Spring Festival couplets with the character “fu” to the door and
then pay a visit to their relatives and friends to exchange New Year’s greetings
while children receive “Lucky money” in a red envelope. Lion dances
and other performances are also parts of the celebrations, which usually last
