translation
Porgy and Bess started life as a novel by Dubose Heyward called Porgy, about the life of African Americans in Charleston.
At first it wasn’t easy to put on the production, because it needed an all-black cast at a time when Afro-American actors were banned from performing.
Porgy and Bess deals with the rhymes and rhythms of Negro life in America. It combines elements that have never before appeared as melodies.
It soon became a classic of modern American music, and the songs have become standards.

Porgy and Bess
"Oh, nobody knows when the lawd is goin' to call"。
