[共两节,满分50分]
第一节(共15小题;每小题2.5分,满分37.5分)
阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。
A篇
A global movement has nightlife sites struggling to replace their plastic straws(吸管) with more choices, such as paper ones, to make plastic waste in the oceans less. But straws make up a small percentage of the world's plastic products, and movements to reduce them will prevent us from making far more useful efforts.
Activists and the news media often say that Americans use 500 million plastic straws per day, for example, which sounds awful. But the source of this number turns out to be a survey conducted by a 9-year-old. Similarly, two Australian scientists guess that there are up to 8.3 billion plastic straws spread on global coastlines. Yet even if all those straws were suddenly washed into the sea, they'd account for about 0.03 percent of the 8 million metric tons of plastics expected to enter the oceans in a given year.
Recently, a research group determined that at least 46 percent of the plastic in the wasteyard by weight comes from a single product: fishing nets. Other fishing gear(用具) makes up a good part of the rest. The effect of this junk goes well beyond pollution. Ghost gear, as it's sometimes called, goes on fishing long after it's been thrown away, to the great harm of sea habitats.
This is a difficult problem. But since the early 1990s, there's been a common agreement: a system to mark business fishing gear so that the person or company that bought it can be responsible when it's thrown away. But in the developing world, fishermen aren't willing to bring someone else's net to a removal point unless they're getting paid to do so.
That's where all that anti-straw energy could really help. In 1990, after years of customer pressure, the world's three largest tuna companies agreed to stop on purpose netting dolphins. Soon after, dolphin deaths dropped sharply. A similar movement to pressure global seafood companies to adopt gear-marking practices could have a much deeper effect.
( )1. How does the writer find anti-straw movement
Practical. B. Important. C.Ineffective. D.Creative.
( )2.What is implied about the data in the second paragraph
A.Scientific. B.Subjective. C.Objective. D.Doubtful.
( )7. Why are the fishing nets called ghost gear
A. Because they can catch fish even after being thrown away.
B.Because they make up most of oceanic plastic.
C. Because they can be recycled easily.
D. Because they have a clear business mark.
B篇
If the fire department hadn't called, I might never have known.
My 16-year-old son, Anton, had gone to the local swimming hole, a place along a river that flows through my small Maine town. Most of the kids who swim there are healthy teens, and there are plenty of rocks for them to use as safe harbours(港湾), so I had no fears for his safety.
Still, the firefighter's first words “You need to come up here to the Stillwater River.” made me catch my breath, but his follow-up words gave me relief: “Your son is OK.”
When I got to the river, I immediately saw Anton, who was sitting quietly on a low platform of the fire engine.
I hurried over to him. “You OK ” I asked.
“Yeah” was all he said. But my eyes begged for an explanation; I didn't get it from my son, however.
The story was this: A couple in their 20s had gotten caught in the water and began crying for help. The man made it to a rock, but the woman was being swept under. Anton and his friend Tyler had just appeared from their swim when they heard the cries. Without hesitation (犹豫)they jumped back into the water, swam out to the drowning woman, and brought her safely to the shore. I realised that, in my son and his friend, I was forced to face with the real thing-the disregarding of personal safety for the sake of another human being.
Still shocked by my son's bravery, I drove him home so he could get into dry clothes. Along the way I tried to dig some more information from him, but he had precious little to say. The next morning, when Anton got up, I still expected him to tell me the story from his point of view. But all he did was head for the door.
I watched from the window as my tall teenager walked down the road and was reminded that, just as the Stillwater runs rapidly, and sometimes dangerously, still waters also often run deep.

A. He was shy to talk about his brave action.
B. He didn't dare to recall the accident.
C. He didn't consider his act a big deal.

( )6. What can we infer from the last paragraph
A. Still waters are much more dangerous in fact.
B. Deep waters seem to stop flowing.
C. A teenager might be a person of few words.
D. A silent person may be even braver.
( )7. Why did the writer write this passage
A. To praise her son for his good action.
B. To show the good results of selflessness.
C. To describe an accident in a swimming hole.
D. To remind teens of swimming safely.
C篇
Living through a natural disaster is a traumatic(痛苦的) experience for everyone, especially for children. A new study by psychologist Annette La Greca and her co-workers, indicates that some children who directly experience a damaging hurricane still show signs of post-traumatic stress disorder(PTSD) almost two years after the event. The findings suggest that new models for intervention(干预) to help children after a natural disaster are needed.
Previous research mainly has focused on children during the few months after a major hurricane, or two years or more after the event. Most of the existing post-hurricane interventions are designed for children experiencing PTSD two years or more after the event. The new study “ picks up where others left off”, assessing children during the in-between period, at nine months(Time One) and then at 21 months after a hurricane(Time Two), explains La Greca.
“There have been no tested interventions developed for children who still show significant symptoms(症状) of PTSD almost a year after a damaging hurricane,” says La Greca.“What this study shows is that there may be a need to test intervention programs to be used from several months to two years post-disaster, to keep kids from developing endless stress.”
The symptoms the children experience range from continually appearing dreams about the hurricane, to being anxious, more unfocused, feeling like nobody understands them, more difficulty sleeping, and feeling more sad or fearful than before the disaster. In addition to experiences directly related to the hurricane, other events in the life of a child during the recovery period, such as parents' separation or an illness in the family, have “a cascading effect”that adds the child's difficulties.
Interestingly, social support from peers was found to be very important in helping to protect the child from the impact of the hurricane. “For children that have experienced a damaging hurricane, reconnecting with friends helps kids adapt better to life after the disaster,” says La Greca.
( )8.What does the underlined part in Paragraph 2 mean
A. Focus on what other studies achieved.
B. Continue to research where other studies stop.
C. Research where other studies failed.
D. Take what others left in any place.
( )9. Greca's study tried to find interventions for children
A. a few months after a major hurricane
B. two years after a natural disaster
C. from several months to two years after a disaster
D. nine months before a natural disaster
( )10. How to help children deal with the effect of the hurricane
A. Getting support from their parents.
B.Learning more about natural disasters.
C.Reducing the effect of natural disasters.
D. Asking their friends for help.
( )11.What does the underlined part “a cascading effect” in Paragraph 4 refer to
A. A series of influences.
B. A process of reactions.
C. A number of causes.
D. A mass of reasons.

I expected my first day of high school to be anxious. I first went to the gym for the school
meeting that was crowded with students and teachers. I felt anxious because I didn't know anybody. I sat down and met a new friend, Nick. We exchanged greetings and watched the cheerleaders perform. I started to like the high school because I had never seen such a wonderful performance before.

17 Don't take shelter under a tree, streetlights, electric poles or tall buildings. If you are driving, stop as quickly as possible and stay away from overpasses, buildings, bridges or anything else that might fall or collapse beneath you. 18
If you are trapped in ruins, cover your mouth with a handkerchief(手帕) or a piece of clothing. Use your cell phone to call for help if possible. Don't shout. 19 Tap on a pipe or the wall so rescuers can find you.

There are a variety of things you can put inside the “mo”, as the bread is called. One morning, my family and I woke up and went to eat breakfast-until we heard barking and scratching at the door. When my mom opened the door,we saw a puppy(小狗).We looked around to see if we saw its owner, but there was no one. We took it inside and fed it.
Regardless of how badly I wanted to keep the puppy, we decided to look for the owner. We looked all day, but we failed. We talked about whether we should keep looking or if we should look the next day. We all agreed to look for its owner the next day.
So, the next day my family and I looked for the dog's owner. It was so hard. We were looking
for flyers(传单)that involved the puppy, but no luck. We wouldn't have quit because it's a puppy.
“We won't stop looking," my mom and dad said. We were going to take care of the puppy until we found its owner.
When we woke up in the morning, we went to a pet shop to buy the puppy some dog food. After that we went back home to feed the puppy the dog food that we had just bought. After we fed the puppy, we gave it a nice bath. It was so dirty that the fur was black and sticky, but after we gave it a bath, it turned white. And I noticed there was a collar(狗项圈)on it,which said“Coby". After we gave it a bath, we went to look for the puppy's owner, but my mom stayed at home, and it was only my dad and me this time.
We continued looking more and more until we found flyers. We looked at it. It said:

Dear schoolmates,
The Qingming Festival is coming. This year higher education departments issue “Civilized sacrifice, Green Qingming" initiative. Here are some of my tips for us.
Participate in the Qingming Festival ancestor worship activities together with parents, remembering the contributions made by ancestors.
Advise your parents to change the traditional worship way and embrace the new civilized low-carbon worship to honour ancestors, such as flower offering, tree planting and so on.
Take advantage of the opportunity to walk into nature and be keen on its joy.
In my opinion, we should join hands to share a civilized, green Qingming Festival.

第二节
One possible version:
There was a phone number on the flyer. My dad called it and someone answered; it was a lady. My dad asked whether she was the one who put out the flyers. She said “ Yes!” with excitement and told us Coby, who was very dear to her, had been gone days before. Then we told her that we had her puppy and we would take it to her. She told us her address at once; then we went to it.
We found the lady's house, and then we knocked on the door. A lady opened the door, and when she saw the puppy, she screamed with joy. We handed her the puppy, feeling proud. She wanted to give us a reward for taking care of her puppy for her, but we said it was OK because we were really happy to help. So we went home tired but content, telling my mom the whole thing. My family became friends with the lady, and we were all happy.
