1.You are supposed to shake hands.
be supposed to 意为“应该……;被期望做……”,后接动词原形,相当于should 或 ought to,用来表示劝告、建议、义务、责任等。其否定形式为be not supposed to,意为“不应该”。
相当于“to be expected to do sth.”或“to have to do sth.”
You’re supposed to ask the teacher if you want to leave the classroom.
如果你要离开教室,应该先问问老师。
We are not supposed to play football on Sunday.我们不应该在星期日踢足球。
2.In the United States,they’re expected to shake hands.在美国,他们应该握手。
be expected to do sth.意为“(某人)被期望做某事;应该做某事”,此处相当于be supposed to do sth。e.g.:You’re expected to get good grades this term.
e.g. He is expected to get through to the finals.我们期待他进入决赛。
Everyone in the class is expected to take part in the discussion.
希望全班同学参加讨论。
(2)expect及物动词,意为“期望;预料;期待”,后可接名词、代词、动词不定式或从句。其常用结构:expect to do sth. 意为“期待做某事”;expect sb. to do sth.意为“期待某人做某事”。
e.g.:I expect a letter from my family.
She expected to come back next week.
I expected you to do your duty.
I expected that I’ll back on Sunday.
You will be expected to work on Saturdays.你们星期六要上班。
3.He greeted Paul’s mother the wrong way. 他问候保罗母亲的方式不对。
(1)greet及物动词,意为“和……打招呼;迎接”,相当于say hello to sb., 后接名词或代词作宾语。
e.g.:We greeted her by saying “Good morning”.
(2)the wrong way意为“以错误的方式,错误地”,相当于in the wrong way。当way 构成的短语表示“用……方式/方法”时,常加介词in。如果way前有this,that或the等词时,in 可以省略,但是如果位于句首,in 则不可省略。
e.g.:You understood him in the wrong way.

as soon as 意为“一…就…”,引导时间状语从句,若主语用一般将来时,从句用一般现在时表将来;若主句用过去式,从句也要用过去时。

In the USA, it is normal for men to shake hands when they meet, but it is quite unusual for men to kiss when they greet each other. Greetings are casual—a handshake, a smile and a hello will do just fine.
The British often simply say hello when they meet friends. They usually shake hands only when they meet for the first time. A social kiss, often just a peck (轻吻) on the cheek (脸), is common in an informal (非正式的)situation between men and women and also between women who know each other very well.
In Japan, the common greeting for both men and women is to bow when they greet someone, instead of giving a handshake or a hug.
Hungarians like to greet in a friendly way—kiss each other on both checks. The most common way is to kiss from right to left. When men meet for the first time, they usually shake hands. That is to say, a handshake is the norm.
In Albania, men shake hands when greeting one another. A kiss on the cheek may be also common if there is a close relationship. Women may shake hands or kiss each other on both cheeks.
In Armenia, by tradition, a woman needs to wait for a man to offer his hand for a handshake. Between good friends and family members, a kiss on the cheek and a hug are also common.
