Ⅰ.阅读理解
A
Developing healthy eating habits starts from childhood, therefore it is important for parents to teach and provide children with a healthy diet.DPHSS administrator of the Bureau of Nutrition Services,Charlie Morris told KUAM News,“A healthy diet for a child consists of a lot of fruits and vegetables in the diet limiting the amount of simple sugars in the diet, high fat food and highly processed (加工的) food.”
This means staying away as much as possible from food such as chips, cookies,
candies and sugary drinks,as all children need to have meals which involve a
well-balanced munity nutritionist (营养学家) Thelma Romoso said,“The fruit, the vegetable, the grain, the protein, and also the milk, the diary product,so for the fruits it’s easy for a mother to go into the two plus three concept of fruits and vegetables or five a day.”
This concept means that there are at least two servings of fruits a day, three servings of vegetables a day which can be served for lunch and dinner. As for protein parents can make a variety of dishes from chicken,
beef, fish or even dried beans to make sure the child gets three servings a day.
Morris said that the child’s hunger level controls how much is eaten and the parent controls what and when the meal is offered, saying,“Mum needs to ensure that the food offered is good food for the child to eat and throughout the day depending on how active they are, snacks are not a bad thing,so the mum should offer good kinds of snacks.”
When it comes to preparing your child’s lunch and snacks for school, make sure to keep in mind that the food you provide should not only be a source of energy but also be nutritionally beneficial such as fresh fruits, and whole grain bread. But parents must be sure to remember that a good nutritional diet must be balanced with physical activity,
namely it is important that children get outside and run around and play and get activity in addition to eating a good diet.

By now, most people know they should be eating more vegetables. But are there ways to get more from the vegetables you already eat A research shows that when it comes to vegetables,it’s not only how much we eat,but also how we prepare them, that decides the vitamins and other nutrients that enter our bodies.
Many studies show that people who eat lots of vegetables have less heart disease, eye problems and even cancer. But raw vegetables are not always the best. The researchers found that 198 Germans who eat raw food were short of lycopene(番茄红素),the matter found in tomatoes and other red vegetables.“There is an idea that raw foods are always going to be better,” says Steven K.Clinton,a professor at Ohio State University.“For fruits and vegetables, sometimes a little bit of cooking can be helpful.”
A number of factors decide how the vegetables do good to people’s health before they reach the table, including where and how they were grown and stored before being bought. No single cooking way is the best. Some nutrients are easily lost in cooking if they are cooked in different ways.
Vitamins C and B are often lost.In January, another report said that boiling was better for carrots than frying or serving them raw.Frying was the worst way to cook.
What cooked with the vegetables can also be important When the vegetables are cooked with fat,the diners can get more nutrients.Fat can also make the taste of vegetables better, meaning that people will eat more of them.Putting on some other things that make it taste better—a little salt—can make the food taste better.

A
“Farm to table” is the name of a movement that encourages people to eat locally grown food. The farm-to-table idea has become more popular in recent years. But there is also a movement that brings “Table to farm”.Its purpose is to connect people to the land and to honour local farmers by creating a sort of restaurant without walls.
Its founder,Jim Denevan, got the idea for this kind of “culinary adventure
(美食探险)”,as he called it,ten years ago.He recently prepared tables for more than a hundred people at Briars Farm in Virginia. He and his eight-member team arrived the night before.Chefs from a local restaurant prepared the dinner.
Jim Denevan’s brother is a farmer and he himself is a chef.He thought that the idea of a meal served right on the farm made sense, though not everyone agreed.
“But I wanted to make the idea work,so I decided to cross the country,”said Denevan.“I went all the way across the United States and set the table on farms,
ranches (大牧场) and beaches, and all the places where food came from.”
“This kind of event connects us with a lot of enthusiastic people, people that we can form relationships with,” said Matt Szechenyi, who operates Briars Farm.
The tour of the farm ends at the dinner table. The meats in the meal come from Matt Szechenyi’s farm. The vegetables come from nearby farms.Guests and local farmers sit together.
Annoica Ingram came with a friend.“The food is wonderful.I appreciate their hard work.I see everything they have to do to take care of the animals and make sure they are well-cared-for.Without them,I think,we’ll have big problems,”she said.

Organic food (有机食品) is very popular. It is also expensive. Some organic food costs twice as much as non-organic food. Some parents and pet owners pay up to 200 percent more for organic food while some people think organic food is a waste of money.
There is one main difference between organic and non-organic food.
Organic farms do not use agricultural chemicals, such as pesticides(杀虫剂).This makes sure that the products are natural.
Some people think “organic”means“locally grown”.At the beginning, this was true.Over time organic farming became more difficult. The demand for organic food grew larger than the supply.Small companies had to sell out to large companies. There weren’t enough organic materials. This made it difficult for many organic companies to stay in business.Today, many large companies have an organic line of products.
Is organic food more nutritious (有营养的) This is part of the debate. Many farmers and consumers believe it is.They think agricultural chemicals cause health problems, such as cancer. Many health experts disagree.Few studies prove that organic food prevents health problems.
Health experts worry more about bacteria (细菌).These can come into contact with organic and non-organic food.Doctors recommend washing produce very carefully.
Most people agree that naturally grown food tastes better. Is tastier food worth the extra money This is a matter of opinion.Whether it is healthier or not may require more research. However, organic consumers argue it is better to be safe than sorry.
