Language Points
1.He had only one axe, and he needed it to make his living.
他只有一把斧头,他需要它谋生。
make one’s living 谋生
eg.What do most people make their living 大多数人靠什么谋生呢?
make a living by doing sth./as a …
eg. The poor boy made his living by selling papers.
He makes his living as a singer.
2.As he cried, a spirit appeared. 当他哭时,一个精灵出现了。
while 和as 引导的时间状语从句的谓语时延续性动词;when引导的时间状语从句的谓语既可以是延续性动词,也可以是短暂性动词。
eg. He met Mary while/when/as he was walking in the street.
When you see her, give her this book.
4. dive into 跳入······中; 潜入
eg. I saw a rabbit dive into the hole.
3.Suddenly, he came up with a great idea. 突然,她想出来了一个好主意。
come up with 想出,提出,提供
eg. He can always come up with reasons for his laziness.
5.Becaue he was honest,he admitted to the sprit that it wasn't his axe. 因为他很诚实,所以他跟精灵承认这把斧子不是他的。
admit 表示“向某人承认”要搭配介词to
eg. The student admitted his mistakes to his teacher.
6. The sprit went down a third time and returned with the woodcutter's old axe.
"不定冠词+序数词”表示相对前一个而言的"又一,再一”
eg. He has see the film twice, but he wants to see it a third time.
7. The sprit was so happy with the woodcutter's honesty that she gave him the other two axes as presents.
be happy with/about 意为“(对某人或某物)满意的,放心的”。
eg.Are you happy with the arrangement/
If there's anything you're not happy about,come and ask me.
