I.语言点精讲
1.Where I’m from, we are pretty relaxed about time.
where引导地点状语从句,说明主句行为发生的地点。
e.g. Just stay where you are. 就留在你原来的地方。
relaxed adj. 放松的,自在的
relax 作动词, 意为“放松”;relaxed 作形容词“放松的”,其主语是人;
relaxing 作形容词“令人放松的”,其主语是物。
e.g. I was tired and wanted to relax.我累了,想放松一下。
e.g. Don’t be afraid, just be relaxed about the interview. 不要害怕,轻松面试。
You just need to be relaxed about this examination.你只要放松地面对考试就可以了。
2.Also, we never visit a friend’s house without calling first.
双重否定句。never和without都表示否定,合在一起表达肯定意义,“一定会”。
e.g. You will hardly ever be able to speak good English without practicing.
你不练习几乎是不可能把英语学好的。
3.We often just drop by our friends’ homes if we have time.
drop by 顺便拜访
eg: My uncle always dropped by my home when he came to our city. 当我叔叔来到我们城市时,他总是顺便来我们家做客。
Drop by often when you are free. 有空时常来坐坐。
(1) drop in on sb. 顺便拜访某人
e.g. Would you drop in on us this evening for a chat
今晚你过来和我们聊聊好吗?
(2) drop into sp. 顺便拜访某地
e.g. He dropped into the factory on his way home.
在回家的路上,他顺便去了那家工厂。
4. We value the time we spend with our family and friends in our everyday lives.
value /'v lju / v. 重视;珍视 n. 价值
e.g. I will value our friendship forever.
我将永远珍视我们的友谊。
value 作动词,常用于以下结构:
(1) value sb./ sth. for... 因……而重视某人/ 某物
e.g. Our teacher valued Tom for his hard work.
我们老师因汤姆努力学习而重视他。
(2) value sb./ sth. as... 把某人/ 某物珍视为……
e.g. I really value him as a good friend.
我真的把他视为好朋友。

be of great value to 意为“对…很有价值”。
Good books are of great value to students.好书对学生非常有用。
spend /spend/ v. 花费;度过(其过去式、过去分词均为spent)
e.g. How did you spend your winter holiday 你怎样度过的寒假?
He spent twenty dollars on a new book.他花了二十美元买了一本新书。
We spent two hours planting the trees yesterday.昨天我们花了两个小时植树。
辨析:spend, cost, take 与pay
spend指花费时间或金钱,其主语是人。
pay指花费金钱,其主语是人,常与for 搭配。
take指花费时间。常用于“It takes sb. some time to do sth.”句型。
cost指花费金钱, 其主语是物。用于“Sth. cost(s) sb. some money”中。
e.g. He spent half an hour watching TV. 他花了半小时看电视。
The new house cost him too much money.这座新房子花了他一大笔钱。
How long did it take you to clean the park 打扫公园花了你们多长时间?
He paid ten dollars for some fruit.他花了十美元买了一些水果。
5.I always leave the house early to avoid heavy traffic because I think it’s impolite to keep others waiting.
avoid / 'v d/ v. 避免;回避,后接名词,动名词作宾语。
e.g. Fortunately, he avoided an accident.幸运的是,他避开了一场事故。
巧记接动词 -ing 形式作宾语的动词及短语:
享受介意必完成 :(enjoy, mind, finish)
考虑建议盼望着: (consider, suggest/advise, look forward to)
避免错过继续练: (avoid, miss, keep/keep on, practise)
想要成功坚持忙: (feel like, succeed in, stick to, be busy)
习惯放弃有困难: (be used to, give up, have difficulty/ trouble in)
keep sb. doing sth. 使某人一直做某事
e.g. My parents keep me doing my homework all day.父母整天让我做作业。
They kept planting trees till 12 pm. 他们一直植树到中午十二点。

It is +adj.+(for sb.)+to do sth. 对某人来说干某事是.....的 (形容词修饰的是干某事)
类似形容词有 difficult,easy, hard,important,safe,dangerous...
eg: It is easy for us to study English well.
It is important to be on time
It is +adj.+of sb.+to do sth. 某人做某事是.....的 (形容词描述的是人的性格、品质)
eg: It is very kind of you to help me.
It is impolite of you to be late .
So I make an effort to be on time when I meet my friends.
effort /'ef (r)t/ n. 努力;尽力
e.g. All their efforts were in vain.他们的努力全都白费了。
He made an effort to achieve his dream.他努力实现他的梦想。
法国承诺努力重建巴黎圣母院。 [自贡]
France has promised to make an effort to rebuild Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris.
7.If you’re even 15 minutes late, your friend may get mad.
mad /m d/ adj. 很生气;疯的
e.g. Tom was late again. His teacher got mad. 汤姆又迟到了。他的老师非常生气。
(1) be/ get mad at/ with sb. 生某人的气相当于be angry with。
e.g. Please don’t get mad at/ with me. 请不要生我的气。
(2) be/ get mad about sth. 因某事生气\“对…着迷”
e.g. There’s no need to get mad about it. 没有必要为这事发火。
I am mad about collecting stamps. 我对集邮非常着迷。
(3) drive sb. mad 使某人发狂
e.g. The noise drove me mad. 这个噪音使我发狂。

四、完形填空

Japan
