Step 5: Practical application
ring a bell
toilet water
pull up one’s socks
doggy bag
Try to make up a situation and write out a story with one or some of the following expressions.
听起来耳熟
淡香水
拼命用功
剩菜袋
Situation :
You asked for the bill in a restaurant. The waiter
said he would bring you a doggy bag. You didn’t
know what it was and had a misunderstanding.
A possible version:
I studied in London last year. One day, I went to have dinner
in a restaurant. After I finished dinner, I wanted to take away the leftover. The waiter said he would bring me a doggy bag. I didn’t take a dog with me, so I was really surprised when he said that. I wasn’t sure whether it was for a dog or the food. Then he brought a doggy bag to me. It turned out that doggy bags were the bags for taking food home. How embarrassing!
Step 6: Homework
Come up with more situations to make up stories, using the expressions we have learnt in this unit and following the structure and tips given above.
