Developing healthy eating habits starts from childhood, therefore it is important for parents to teach and provide children with a healthy diet.DPHSS administrator of the Bureau of Nutrition Services,Charlie Morris told KUAM News,“A healthy diet for a child consists of a lot of fruits and vegetables in the diet limiting the amount of simple sugars in the diet, high fat food and highly processed (加工的) food.”
This means staying away as much as possible from food such as chips, cookies, candies and sugary drinks,as all children need to have meals which involve a well-balanced munity nutritionist (营养学家) Thelma Romoso said,“The fruit, the vegetable, the grain, the protein, and also the milk, the diary product,so for the fruits it’s easy for a mother to go into the two plus three concept of fruits and vegetables or five a day.”
This concept means that there are at least two servings of fruits a day, three servings of vegetables a day which can be served for lunch and dinner. As for protein parents can make a variety of dishes from chicken, beef, fish or even dried beans to make sure the child gets three servings a day.
Morris said that the child’s hunger level controls how much is eaten and the parent controls what and when the meal is offered, saying,“Mum needs to ensure that the food offered is good food for the child to eat and throughout the day depending on how active they are, snacks are not a bad thing,so the mum should offer good kinds of snacks.”
When it comes to preparing your child’s lunch and snacks for school, make sure to keep in mind that the food you provide should not only be a source of energy but also be nutritionally beneficial such as fresh fruits, and whole grain bread. But parents must be sure to remember that a good nutritional diet must be balanced with physical activity, namely it is important that children get outside and run around and play and get activity in addition to eating a good diet.

By now, most people know they should be eating more vegetables. But are there ways to get more from the vegetables you already eat A research shows that when it comes to vegetables,it’s not only how much we eat,but also how we prepare them, that decides the vitamins and other nutrients that enter our bodies.
Many studies show that people who eat lots of vegetables have less heart disease, eye problems and even cancer. But raw vegetables are not always the best. The researchers found that 198 Germans who eat raw food were short of lycopene(番茄红素),the matter found in tomatoes and other red vegetables.“There is an idea that raw foods are always going to be better,” says Steven K.Clinton,a professor at Ohio State University.“For fruits and vegetables, sometimes a little bit of cooking can be helpful.”
A number of factors decide how the vegetables do good to people’s health before they reach the table, including where and how they were grown and stored before being bought. No single cooking way is the best. Some nutrients are easily lost in cooking if they are cooked in different ways.
Vitamins C and B are often lost.In January, another report said that boiling was better for carrots than frying or serving them raw.Frying was the worst way to cook.
What cooked with the vegetables can also be important When the vegetables are cooked with fat,the diners can get more nutrients.Fat can also make the taste of vegetables better, meaning that people will eat more of them.Putting on some other things that make it taste better—a little salt—can make the food taste better.

“Farm to table” is the name of a movement that encourages people to eat locally grown food. The farm-to-table idea has become more popular in recent years. But there is also a movement that brings “Table to farm”.Its purpose is to connect people to the land and to honour local farmers by creating a sort of restaurant without walls.
Its founder,Jim Denevan, got the idea for this kind of “culinary adventure (美食探险)”,as he called it,ten years ago.He recently prepared tables for more than a hundred people at Briars Farm in Virginia. He and his eight-member team arrived the night before.Chefs from a local restaurant prepared the dinner.
Jim Denevan’s brother is a farmer and he himself is a chef.He thought that the idea of a meal served right on the farm made sense, though not everyone agreed.
“But I wanted to make the idea work,so I decided to cross the country,”said Denevan.“I went all the way across the United States and set the table on farms, ranches (大牧场) and beaches, and all the places where food came from.”
“This kind of event connects us with a lot of enthusiastic people, people that we can form relationships with,” said Matt Szechenyi, who operates Briars Farm.
The tour of the farm ends at the dinner table. The meats in the meal come from Matt Szechenyi’s farm. The vegetables come from nearby farms.Guests and local farmers sit together.
Annoica Ingram came with a friend.“The food is wonderful.I appreciate their hard work.I see everything they have to do to take care of the animals and make sure they are well-cared-for.Without them,I think,we’ll have big problems,”she said.

Organic food (有机食品) is very popular. It is also expensive. Some organic food costs twice as much as non-organic food. Some parents and pet owners pay up to 200 percent more for organic food while some people think organic food is a waste of money.
There is one main difference between organic and non-organic food.Organic farms do not use agricultural chemicals, such as pesticides(杀虫剂).This makes sure that the products are natural.
Some people think “organic”means“locally grown”.At the beginning, this was true.Over time organic farming became more difficult. The demand for organic food grew larger than the supply.Small companies had to sell out to large companies. There weren’t enough organic materials. This made it difficult for many organic companies to stay in business.Today, many large companies have an organic line of products.
Is organic food more nutritious (有营养的) This is part of the debate. Many farmers and consumers believe it is.They think agricultural chemicals cause health problems, such as cancer. Many health experts disagree.Few studies prove that organic food prevents health problems.Health experts worry more about bacteria (细菌).These can come into contact with organic and non-organic food.Doctors recommend washing produce very carefully.

M:Right, the next part of my talk is about the banks in Britain and their student services.I hope you can listen to me carefully. Then you can choose a suitable bank for yourself.
First of all,the Natwest account. This account charges you nothing if you’re overdrawn. As well as this, you get a credit card and the interest rate for that is about 18.9% per year. Also, the bank offers discounts on train fares in Britain.
The second account is with Barclays.Like the Natwest account, this account charges you nothing if you’re overdrawn either. In addition, this bank offers a credit card with an interest rate of 19.9%.With this account, students also get free mobile phone insurance.I imagine that’s popular with many of you.But I’m afraid there
aren’t many branches in Britain.
Right, now the HSBC account. This account charges you nothing if you’re overdrawn either. In addition, there’s a credit card and the interest rate is 18.8%.As well as this, students get a free driving lesson.
So,that’s an overview of the three main banks and their student accounts. Are there any questions

阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。
A
It is quite natural for all of us to want to preserve and protect the foods we purchase. With that in mind,we often think that the best way to do that is by putting them in our refrigerators. However, that is not always the case.
Bread
Nothing dries out bread faster than your refrigerator. In the event that you have made sandwiches with the bread, then you can place them in the fridge. The cold temperature will make the bread tough and chewy.
Tomato
We all love tomatoes for their taste. But putting them in the refrigerator will cause them to lose all of their flavour (口味).Plus, the cold air in the cooler stops the ripening process as well. And as we all know, ripening is what gives every tomato more taste and flavour. For best results, keep tomatoes out,and inside a basket or a bowl on your counter.
Salad
Oil or vinegar-based salad can be stored for a long period of time without refrigeration. Moreover, refrigeration of salad dressings brings bad smell.Keep in mind that some salads that are mayo (蛋黄酱) or yogurt based should be refrigerated in order to keep them fine.So if you have some salads that have been already dressed, you can keep them away from your fridge without any hesitation.
  Egg
It is a long debate whether you should keep eggs inside your refrigerator or not.One study suggests that keeping eggs whether in a refrigerator or not does not change their normal qualities,so it can be said that if you keep eggs at room temperature, there should not be any problem. There is another study that shows that keeping eggs inside the refrigerators has a bad effect on the natural taste and flavour of eggs,so it is wise to keep eggs outside of your fridge.

There it was.A test of will power.I was on a special diet with foods carefully selected for balanced nutrition and caloric value.A piece of cheese cake is not an option. So here was my dilemma:should I not eat the cheese cake, feel dissatisfied and take out my frustration on the annoyingly skinny physical instructor at the gym Or should I eat the cheese cake and work off the calories
The latter seemed like a win-win solution. Not only would I get to enjoy the cheese cake, but I’d get an exercise session. And then it hit me:a delicate plan to use my cheese cake as an exercise incentive.I plated a thin slice of cheese cake and carefully walked it up the stairs and set it on my bedside table with a small fork.I put on my exercise outfit and went downstairs.
The appeal of the cheese cake got stronger so I launched my plan:I would run up and down the stairs and then back up again. My reward:one small bite of cheese cake.If I wanted another,I’d have to run down and up and down and up again.Off I went.Ah,creamy vanilla goodness without guilt.I wanted another bite so I quickly sprinted through another stair climbing run.
Admittedly,it was harder to enjoy the creaminess of the cheese cake when my tongue was dry from over-breathing.I placed a bottle of water next to the cake.
Down and up and down and up again. When I struggled over to the cheese cake,my hand bypassed the plate and went for the water instead.I didn’t want the cake any more.I wanted all this sweat and effort to do more than cancel the calories from cheese cake.I was exhausted and sure the cheese cake tasted fine but just not good enough to make me run up and down the stairs one more time.
My plan worked. Now,any time I felt tempted to indulge in a former favourite,I remembered my stairs trick.

Feeling hungry Then what’s the easiest way to satisfy your hunger Many of us will reach for a takeaway menu and order some delicious—but possibly unhealthy—food. And our increasingly busy and stressful lives add to our need to buy ready-made food on the go or delivered to home.
Eating options are endless, and new technology means we can feed our desires at the push of a button.Takeaway delivery apps make ordering food quick and convenient, and it provided a lifeline to those stuck at home with nothing to cook or who lacked the skills to prepare a meal for themselves. It’s estimated that in the UK alone, people eat three million takeaway meals a day,and the three biggest delivery apps together offer a choice of 100 dishes from 60,000 restaurants.
It’s no wonder we are tempted to skip the grocery shopping, bypass the kitchen, and enjoy something that someone else has prepared. But ordering a pizza,a spicy curry or a box of noodles, can come at a price both financially and to our health.Eating too much processed and unhealthy fast food has some effect on obesity and the risk of developing certain diseases.A few years ago,the experts found that most people ate fast food on average two days per week. But,in the 16- to 20-year-old category, one in six ate fast food at least twice a day.
Of course, reducing salt, sugar and fat is one way to make takeaway food healthier,as well as offering smaller portion sizes. But the best advice is to find a cooking book and try making your own healthy meal. And if you haven’t got time, try ordering a healthier alternative from the menu.
28.What has made ordering and delivering takeaway food easy
A.The fast-pace lifestyle.
B.Takeaway delivery apps.
C.The food outside is delicious and healthy.
D.Lack of cooking skills.
29.What can be inferred from Paragraph 3
A.Processed food is usually sold at a low price.
B.It’s unbelievable for people to enjoy fast food.
C.Fast food does less harm to the health of adults.
D.The youth consume fast food more frequently.
30.According to the article, how can you eat most healthily
A.Preparing meals yourself.

C.Eating takeaway occasionally.
D.Adding vegetables and fruit.
31.What’s the text mainly about

B.The necessity of cooking at home.

Turning the lights out or wearing a blindfold while eating could be a quick way to lose weight, according to scientists. The simple trick works because it stops diners eating for pleasure rather than for calories. It also triggers (引发) a part of the brain that is worried that unseen food may go bad.
An experiment by the University of Konstanz,in Germany, found that people who were blindfolded consumed nine percent fewer calories before they felt full, compared to those who could see. They also vastly overestimated how much they had eaten because they could not see how much was left on the plate.Blindfolded volunteers estimated they had eaten 88 percent more than they actually had.
Scientists believe that not seeing food on the table also allows the body to know when it is full in real time rather than remembering past experiences where it might have taken a full plate to feel full.
In the experiment,50 people were blindfolded and 40 were allowed to see their food. All were told not to eat within two hours of the experiment. They were then given three 95g bowls of chocolate ice-cream and invited to eat for 15 minutes.Their bowls were taken away and the remaining ice-cream weighed, while the participants were quizzed on how much they thought they had eaten.
On average the group who could see ate 116g while the blindfolded group ate 105g.However,the blindfolded group believed they had eaten 197g while compared with 159g for the non-blind volunteers. They were also asked how pleasant the ice-cream tasted and the blindfolded group rated lower than those who could see.
“The experienced pleasure of eating was significantly lower in the blindfolded group. Not seeing the food might have decreased the appetite.Sight plays an important role in the eating experience and in the overall dining experience.”
Previous studies have shown that the visual influence of food plays a large part in the taste. While restaurants that allow diners to eat in the dark state that it triggers other senses,in fact eating in darkness is likely to taste far milder than usual.

阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Here are five cooking habits that could be costing your important nutrients,
causing you to overeat—or even making you sick.
Boiling vegetables
A 2015 review showed that boiling vegetables resulted in a high loss of Vitamin C.36. “If you’re not drinking a soup, you’re missing out on nutrients,”says Nishta Saxena,a dietitian based in Toronto.
Washing chicken
While your favourite old cookbooks likely tell you to wash a chicken before cooking, this outdated advice is a safety risk.Cleaning meat in water may remove some of the bacteria, but it’s also likely to pass it around your kitchen.37. And clean your hands after you’ve finished the cooking.
Removing skins from fruits and vegetables
“Large amounts of nutrients are found in the skins,”says Liz Powell,a dietitian from Vancouver.“Concern about chemical remains isn’t a good enough reason to do the removing.38. ”
Mixing everything
A smoothie (a mixed drink) is a smart way to eat some greens.39.
They’re often short of protein and healthy fat. These things work together to keep us feeling full and satisfied.Without them,it’s not really a balanced meal.Powell suggests adding some foods which contain protein or having a piece of wholewheat (全麦的) bread on the side.
Overdressing salads
We think we can add anything to salads, and they’ll still be a nutritious choice. But it’s just not true.If you’re topping your bowl with dried strawberries and sweet cheese, you’ve easily added 30 grams of sugar to your so-called healthy lunch.40.
A.You should choose healthy produce for your family.
B.But these kinds of drinks are likely to be unbalanced.
C.To stay safe, don’t wash the meat when preparing it.
D.Cabbage,for example,loses about 33% of its Vitamin C.
E.Nuts are better choices to improve the taste of your greens.
F.The skins of potatoes contain more nutrients than its inside part.
G.Washing your produce will remove some chemicals from the surface.

37.C 考查学生理解因果关联意义的具体信息的能力。由上文中的“Cleaning meat in water may...pass it around your kitchen.”可知,该段介绍了清理肉类食物有可能将细菌留在厨房。再由下文中的“And clean your hands after you’ve finished the cooking.”可知,设空处给出了一种解决办法。故选C。
38.G 考查学生对平行信息之间的衔接关系的理解能力。由上文中的“Concern about chemical remains isn’t a good enough reason to do the removing.”以及设空处所在的位置可知,这里还需要给出建议。G项中的“remove some chemicals from the surface”是提示。故选G。
39.B 考查学生理解平行和递进语义连贯的具体信息的能力。由下文中的“They’re often short of protein and healthy fat.”

Peter woke up early in the morning. He went downstairs in a hurry and started to have his breakfast as quickly as possible.
“Why are you in such a hurry, early bird ”Mum asked him.“We will have an English spelling test today,Mum,”Peter said.“Mr White promised to offer prizes to those who get 100 scores.I’ve been studying the word list since last week.Although the words are difficult,I am well prepared for them.”
Peter reviewed the spelling of each word once more carefully when Dad drove him to school. At last,it was time for the students to have a test.“Responsibility,”Mr White started.Peter wrote it on his test paper quickly and confidently.
“The second word:contribution,”Mr White said.
“So easy,”Peter thought. He quickly wrote the word down.
Thirty words later, the test papers were collected by Mr White.“I am to mark your papers now,”he told the class. After marking the test papers,Mr White said,“Three of you won a prize today for excellent test scores.Peter,David and Mary got 100 percent on the spelling test!”
Mr White praised them.Meanwhile,he gave the three students each a dictionary.Peter’s was an English-Chinese dictionary—the one he liked best.Peter was so excited that he held it high when his classmates cheered.“This is my happiest moment,”Peter thought.
After Mr White gave the test paper back,Peter had a look at the words, feeling proud of his spelling. All of a sudden, the word “contribution”confused him.It
didn’t seem right.Peter began to compare them after taking out the word list.“C-o-n-t-r-i-b-u-s-i-o-n,”he whispered. He had spelled it wrong.
“What am I to do ”Peter said to himself.“I expect my classmates to think
I’m a master in spelling. If I tell Mr White one of my spelling words is wrong,
I’ll have to give my prize back,or I will become an example for telling a lie.”
Staring at the red sign“100%”which was written at his test paper,Peter was lost in thought. After a while,he remembered a lesson Mum used to teach him,“We ought to be an honest person.”

Peter looked around. He found many of his classmates were smiling at him.“Peter,I want you to have this dictionary because you set a good example for all of us,”Mr White said.Peter took the dictionary from his teacher and expressed his thanks to Mr White.Meanwhile,he couldn’t wait to show it to Mum and tell her one of his best days ever.
