Who’re happier, men or women Research shows it’s a complex question and that asking whether males or females are happier isn’t really that helpful, because basically, happiness is different for men and women.
Women’s happiness has been declining for the past 30 years, according to recent statistics. And research shows that women are twice as likely to experience depression compared with men.Gender (性别) differences in depression are well confirmed and studies have found that biological, psychological and social factors contribute to the difference.
Early studies on gender and happiness found men and women were socialized to express different feelings.Women are more likely to express happiness, warmth and fear, which help with social bonding and appear more consistent with the traditional role as a primary caregiver, while men display more anger, pride and disrespect, which are more consistent with a protector and provider role.
Recent research suggests that these differences are not just socially, but also genetically related.Studies have looked into these findings further and discovered that females use more areas of the brain containing mirror neurons (镜像神经元) than males when they process feelings.Mirror neurons allow us to experience the world from other people’s view,to understand their actions and intentions. This may explain why women can experience deeper sadness.Women tend to experience more negative feelings, such as more guilt, shame and to a lesser degree, embarrassment.
Psychologically it seems men and women differ in the way they process and express feelings. With the exception of anger, women experience feelings more strongly and share their feelings more openly with others.Studies have found in particular that women express more appreciation—which has been linked to greater happiness. This supports the theory that women’s happiness is more dependent on relationships than men’s.

Who’re happier, men or women Research shows it’s a complex question and that asking whether males or females are happier isn’t really that helpful, because basically, happiness is different for men and women.
Women’s happiness has been declining for the past 30 years, according to recent statistics. And research shows that women are twice as likely to experience depression compared with men.Gender (性别) differences in depression are well confirmed and studies have found that biological,
psychological and social factors contribute to the difference.
Early studies on gender and happiness found men and women were socialized to express different feelings.Women are more likely to express happiness,
warmth and fear, which help with social bonding and appear more consistent with the traditional role as a primary caregiver, while men display more anger,
pride and disrespect, which are more consistent with a protector and provider role.
With the exception of anger, women experience feelings more strongly and share their feelings more openly with others.
Studies have found in particular that women express more appreciation—which has been linked to greater happiness. This supports the theory that women’s happiness is more dependent on relationships than men’s.

A survey by an international temporary service agency found that US managers believe that people with a sense of humour do better in their jobs, compared with those who have little or no sense of humour. In fact, about 96 percent of those surveyed said people with a sense of humour do better.
The survey went on to point out that the results suggest that a sense of humour may help light-hearted employees keep their jobs during hard times. And,what’s more,it may push them up the corporate ladder past their humourless colleagues. Why It seems that those with a sense of humour are better communicators and better team players.
Studies have shown that happy workers are more productive. In fact,a researcher at California State University found that humour could help the employees release tension.
Research done by psychologist Dr Ashton Trice at Mary Baldwin College in Virginia showed that humour helps us think. When people meet important projects, they usually feel angry, hopeless or depressed.According to Dr Trice’s research, taking time out to laugh can help us to get rid of negative feelings and allow us to return to a task or move on to another project unaffected by past defeat.
If humour is really so important, then why don’t we use it more often on the job Most likely, the main reason is that many people are unaware of the positive effects of humour in the workplace. However,it is important to realise that some humour is not good for the workplace, and that it is often used at wrong times.

(Text 3)
M:Do you want to take the flight at 8:00 this morning or the flight at 3:00 this afternoon

(Text 4)

W:Hi,Mark.How was your summer vacation
M:I worked at a restaurant the whole vacation. It was an exciting experience, and I also made enough money for the next term. What did you do for your summer vacation
W:I attended some classes because I fell behind last term.I wanted to catch up with the others.
M:That’s great.So,have you seen David
W:He dropped out of school completely.
M:Really Why I haven’t seen him for several months.
W:He works at a good company as an assistant now.

M:French is so hard!Do you know what’s the most difficult part for me
W:The grammar
M:Yes,but only one particular area.I can’t remember if a word is male or female.
W:You have to just remember those.
M:But there are so many, and I can’t find a pattern! For instance, the moon is female and the sun is male.I know those are common in different languages. But a chair is female and hair is male.I think that hair would be considered female!I just
don’t get it.
W:It can be very confusing.Don’t let it get you down,Andy. You’re doing well this term. One bad quiz score will hardly affect your grade.Your reading is excellent and so is your writing. You’ll get used to this part of the language soon enough.
(Text 8)
M:Where are you We are all waiting for you. We’re expecting Mary any minute now!
W:I’m so sorry. There was a lot of traffic today.I think there was a major accident on the freeway, but I exited before I could see what happened.I’m five minutes away.
M:I heard on the radio that a truck had crashed into another car, which caused a big traffic jam.Are you OK
W:Yeah. The good thing is that I decided to change my route. My GPS system is so useful!I don’t know how I would get around otherwise.
M:Did you remember Mary’s gift
W:I sure did.I have it right here with me in the car.Is everyone else there already I can’t wait to see her face when she walks in.Do you think she knows
M:Everyone is here.I think we all did a good job at keeping the party a secret unless you arrive after Mary!Hurry up!
W:OK,OK...Just make sure all the lights are off so she doesn’t see anyone.
(Text 9)
M:Can I help you find anything
W:Yes,I’m going on vacation next week, and I need a book to take with me.
M:What do you usually like to read
W:I love classics with strong female characters.I get tired of reading about men all the time.I’m looking for something easy and with a happy ending.I don’t want to think too hard while I’m travelling!
M:Where are you going Sometimes it’s nice to read about the place you’re visiting.
W:England.
M:You might like an author like Jane Austen, who writes with a lot of humour.Or Emily Bront ,another classic author. Her writing is full of emotion. It isn’t terribly enjoyable, but it always has powerful female characters.
W:I love Austen and Bront ,but I didn’t think about mysteries. Are they frightening
M:Not at all.The main story is about solving the crime, rather than the murder.I can suggest a few titles.
W:I hope I have time to finish the book!I’m travelling with my children, and they often interrupt my reading.
M:Let’s look for some books for them, too. We have a wonderful youth section right over here.

A lot of us lose life’s tough battles by starting a frontal (正面的) attack—when a touch of humour might well enable us to win.Consider the case of a young friend of mine, who hit a traffic jam on his way to work shortly after receiving an ultimatum (最后通牒) about being late for the job.Although there was a good reason for Sam’s being late—serious illness at home—he decided that this by-now-familiar excuse wouldn’t work any longer. His boss was probably already pacing up and down preparing a dismissal speech.
Yes,the boss was,as Sam entered the office at 9:35.The place was as quiet as a locker room (更衣室):everyone was hard at work.Sam’s boss came up to him.
Suddenly,Sam forced a grin and stretched out his hand.“How do you do ”He said.“I’m Sam Maynard.I’m applying for a job, which,I understand, became available just 35 minutes ago.Doesn’t the early bird get the worm ”
The room exploded in laughter. The boss clamped off a smile and walked back to his office.Sam Maynard had saved his job—with the only tool that could win—a laugh.
Humour is a most effective, yet frequently neglected means of handling the difficult situations in our lives. It can be used for patching up differences,
apologising, saying “no”,criticising, getting the other fellows to do what you want without his losing face. For some jobs,it’s the only tool that can succeed. It is a way to discuss subjects that are so sensitive that serious dialogue may start a quarrel. For example, many believe that comedians on television are doing more today for racial and religious tolerance than people in any other forum.
24.Why was Sam late for his job
A.Because he was ill.
B.Because he got up late.
C.Because he was caught in a traffic jam.

The idea that you can use humour, laughter, and play to make you healthier probably seems too simple to be true. However,it is really true and simple. The sense of humour, laughter and play plays an important part in keeping you healthy.
Treat the blues with a sense of humour, which is closely tied to laughter.Laughter is infectious.Have you ever heard a big laugh of a young child and been able to keep yourself from smiling When laughter is shared between people,it makes them closer to each other and increases their happiness.Smiling is the beginning of laughter and a smile is also just as infectious as laughter is.You can experience something by smiling at everyone around you,and you will feel happier just by sharing a smile, even with a stranger.
Play is an important part of making sure that we stay healthy. We are often encouraged to make sure our children play, and are told of the benefits of being out playing. However, what we often forget is that it is just as important for old people to make play be part of their life as it’s for children.Physical play is important for the old and it certainly helps prevent illness. While the studies are still in the early stages, the studies that have been done have shown that physical play certainly plays a part in preventing cognitive(认知的) falling.

Laughter is a kind of universal body language that is shared by people of all nationalities, skin colours, cultures and traditions. But did you know that the ability to tell real laughter apart from fake (假的) laughter also varies among cultures
Greg Bryant,a professor of communication at the University of California,
published a study in late July.In the study,884 people from 21 countries were asked to listen to random recordings of laughter. Some of the recordings were made up of laughs from the bottom of the heart, while others were made by people who were asked to laugh on command.
The study showed that people around the world have the ability to pick out real laughter, although their abilities vary from country to country.Residents of the Samoan Islands, were particularly good at it,correctly identifying real laughter 56 percent of the time.According to Bryant, people from smaller, less industrialised nations “are more accurate in identifying a natural smile” because they rely heavily on emotional engagement in order to predict others’ behaviour and create stronger social relationships.
But how do people from different cultures detect natural laughter so easily And what characters does real laughter have As Professor Jessica Wolf of the University of California told the Association for Psychological Science,in real laughter,we produce qualities, such as higher pitch (音调) and volume,as well as faster bursts of no clear sounds.
By contrast, fake laughter will “sound like speech”.According to Science Daily, fake laughter is controlled by the same brain system that controls the lips and tongue.Bryant further explained that this system has active ability, saying “with this speech system, you can make a lot of different noises, including crying,
laughter or scream. That’s where fake laughter comes from”.
So that’s something to think about:next time one of your friends’ laughs at something you say, will you be able to tell if it’s real or fake

B.People can tell real laughter from fake laughter.

A.They put much emotion to knowing others.
B.They often predict others’ behaviours.
C.They aren’t well educated.
D.They have a strong social relationship.
34.What characters does real laughter have
A.Clearer words.
B.Slower speed.
C.Higher sound.
D.More like a speech.
35.What can we learn about the fake laughter system
A.It controls ears and eyes.
B.It works like speech systems.
C.It encourages people to copy others.
D.It can make people produce various noises.

Dear Peter,
I’m delighted to hear from you.You said you were planning to learn Chinese brand of humour—crosstalk. So I’m writing to tell you something about it.
The Chinese crosstalk is a form of language art, which offers amusement to the audience.Although it’s complicated and hard to perform well, you can pay attention to a few points to improve yourself.Firstly, your practice of fluent and standard oral Chinese can do the trick, which is an essential part of practice.Secondly, you need to arrange the setting properly, which can also impress the audience deeply.Last but not least,by learning from some famous crosstalk actors on the Internet and practising regularly, you will definitely make great progress.
I hope my advice can be helpful.
Yours sincerely,

第二节(满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
There was once a wonderful old man who loved everything:animals, plants and all sorts of living things.
One day while walking through the woods, the old man found a cocoon(茧).He decided to take the cocoon home to watch its beautiful transformation from a little cocoon to a beautiful butterfly.
A few days later, the cocoon started to move.It moved frantically(狂乱地)!He sat and watched it struggle and struggle for several hours. But it seemed not to make any progress. Then the old man felt sorry for the little butterfly inside, and rushed to its aid. With a pair of scissors, gently,he cut a little opening in the cocoon so the butterfly could come out.And then the butterfly came out of its cocoon. It had a swollen body and small, fragile wings, but it never was able to fly.
He was quite puzzled.Had he accidentally killed the little butterfly No,it was still moving a little bit.Maybe it was sick. Then he decided that the best thing he could do for the butterfly was to place it gently back into its cocoon. He did so,and placed a drop of honey on it to seal the cocoon, leaving the butterfly to nestle (处在) in its natural state.
The next day he noticed that the cocoon was moving again. It struggled and struggled. Finally the butterfly broke free from its cocoon and stretched its wings out.Its beautiful wings were filled with wonderful colours! It took off!It was flying!
The wonderful butterfly flew and flew till it was almost out of the old
man’ s sight. What a joy!He exclaimed! But then he started to think:what did I do wrong by trying to help that beautiful little butterfly out at first
注意:续写词数应为150个左右。

One possible version:
Finally, the answer came out.The butterfly had to struggle and struggle while inside the cocoon. They strengthened their wings through the process of pushing and struggling. That’s just what they were designed to overcome in order to be strong enough to fly. However, cutting the little opening on the cocoon, the old man had denied the opportunity the butterfly needed to be strong.Naturally,it was unable to fly.
Sometimes struggles are exactly what we need in our life. They are part of our life journey that everyone has to go through. We develop our strength to survive the inevitable storms of life by overcoming struggles. It is struggles that make us well prepared for life in the future.Living a life with no obstacles,we will never learn to fly like the butterfly.Remember nature needs no help, just no interference.(共70张PPT)

A survey by an international temporary service agency found that US managers believe that people with a sense of humour do better in their jobs, compared with those who have little or no sense of humour. In fact,
about 96 percent of those surveyed said people with a sense of humour do better.
When people meet important projects, they usually feel angry, hopeless or depressed.
According to Dr Trice’s research, taking time out to laugh can help us to get rid of negative feelings and allow us to return to a task or move on to another project unaffected by past defeat.
If humour is really so important, then why don’t we use it more often on the job Most likely, the main reason is that many people are unaware of the positive effects of humour in the workplace. However,it is important to realise that some humour is not good for the workplace,
and that it is often used at wrong times.
