Knowing a little first aid could be life-saving if you see someone lying unconscious.
Too often people don’t do anything because they think they will kill the patient, but by learning simple rules you could make the difference between life and death.
First, you need to find out if they’re unconscious, asleep or drunk,by squeezing the skin between their neck and shoulder and shouting. If there is no response at all,you need to establish if they are dead or just unconscious—sometimes it’s very difficult to tell the difference.
Open the airway by placing one hand on their forehead and gently tilting the head back while lifting the chin.
If there are no signs of life—no obvious pulse and their chest is not going up and down—call an ambulance and then start cardiopulmonary resuscitation(CPR) to maintain(获得)a flow of oxygenated blood to the brain and heart.
Do this by pushing up and down on the centre of the chest, with your hands interlocked together, constantly until an ambulance arrives.
Push at a rate of 100 beats a minute. You can’t harm them by doing this and might just save a life.
21.People don’t do first aid often because .
A.they are not doctors
B.they think it is dangerous
C.it isn’t their responsibility
D.they are cold-hearted
22.How can you tell whether the person is dead or just asleep
A.By squeezing the skin on the arm.
B.By tilting the head back.
C.By placing one hand on their forehead.
D.By shouting to the person.
23.If the person’s chest is not going up and down,it shows .
A.the person is dead
B.first aid is not needed
C.you should start CPR
D.an ambulance isn’t necessary
24.What is the main idea of the passage
A.First aid for drunk people.
B.First aid for injured people.
C.First aid for unconscious people.
D.First aid for choked people.

Can you imagine that you can save your own life during a heart attack by coughing Let’s see how...
A heart attack can happen to anyone.Let’s say it’s 4:17 p.m.and you’re driving home(alone of course) after an unusually hard day on the job.Not only was the workload extremely heavy, but you also had a disagreement with your boss, and no matter how hard you tried,he just wouldn’t see your side of the situation. You’re really upset and the more you think about it,the more nervous you become.
All of a sudden you start experiencing severe pain in your chest that starts to spread out into your arm and up to your jaw(下巴).You are only about five miles from the hospital nearest your home, but unfortunately you don’t know if you’ll be able to make it that far.
What can you do You’ve been trained in CPR but the guy who taught the course didn’t tell you how to perform it on yourself.
Since many people are alone when they suffer a heart attack, this article seems in order.Without help the person whose heart stops beating properly and who begins to feel faint(眩晕的) has only about 10 seconds left before losing consciousness. However, these victims can help themselves by coughing repeatedly and very powerfully.A deep breath should be taken before each cough, and the cough must be deep and last long,as when producing sputum(痰)from deep inside the chest.A breath and a cough must be repeated about every two seconds without stopping until help arrives,or until the heart feels to be beating normally again.Deep breaths get oxygen into the lungs(肺)and coughing movements squeeze the heart and keep the blood circulating.
The squeezing pressure on the heart also helps it regain normal rhythm. In this way, heart attack victims can get to a phone and, between breaths, call for help.
Now,do you understand the whole matter Tell as many other people as possible about this.It could save their lives!
25.According to the passage,CPR is most probably something done to .
A.help someone regain breath and heart beat
B.help someone treat a heart attack by himself
C.teach people how to stay in a good state
D.train people how to stay calm when facing dangers
26.According to paragraph 5,coughing during a heart attack helps .
A.relax the heart
B.get oxygen into the lungs
C.keep the blood circulating
D.reduce the pain in the chest
27.We can learn from the passage that .
A.a long day’s work usually results in heart attacks
B.not only the chest aches when one suffers a heart attack
C.people should attend a CPR course to survive heart attacks
D.one should cough loudly immediately when one’s chest aches
28.In which section of a newspaper can you read this passage

 36
An escape plan can help every member of a family get out of a burning house. The idea is to get outside quickly and safely. 37 So it is important to learn and remember the different ways out of your home.
Stay low
If you can see smoke in the house, stay low to the ground as you make your way to the exit. 38 You will breathe less smoke if you stay to the ground.Smoke naturally rises,so if there is smoke while you are using your escape route, staying low means you can crawl(爬) under most of it.

If you can’t get out fast because fire or smoke is stopping an escape route, you will want to yell for help. You can do this from an open window or call 911 if you have a phone with you. 39 Then, firefighters will have a hard time finding you.The sooner they find you,the sooner you both can get out.
If your clothes catch fire, what should you do
Your clothes could catch fire during a fire or by accident if you step too close to a candle. If this happens, don’t run!Instead, stop, drop to the ground, cover your face with your hands, and roll. This will cut off the air and put out the flames. 40
A.Know your way out
B.Preventing fires is in the first place!
C.An easy way to remember this is:Stop,Drop, and Roll!
D.Smoke from a fire can make it hard to see where things are.
E.Even if you are scared, never hide under the bed or in a closet.

He stopped and went into the flower shop and saw a young man talking to the girl in it.“How many roses can I get for fifty dollars.Ms ” the boy asked. The girl was trying to explain that roses were expensive.Maybe the young man would be happy with something else.
“No.I have to have roses,” he said.“My mum was badly sick last year and I didn’t get to spend much time with her.I want to get something special. It has to be red roses, because that is her favourite.” He was stubborn.
The girl in the shop looked up at Eric and was just shaking her head.Something inside of Eric was touched by the boy’s voice. He wanted to get those roses so badly.Eric had been blessed (幸运的) in his business, and he looked at the girl and silently said that he would pay for the boy’s roses.
The girl looked at the young man and said,“OK,I will give you a dozen red roses for your dollars.” The young man almost jumped into the air.He took the flowers and ran down the store. It was worth more than fifty dollars just to see that kind of excitement.
Eric ordered his own flowers and asked the girl to have it delivered to his mother. After that, with a relief he drove down the road. Not long after his driving,he saw the boy walking to a graveyard (墓地).
