话题延伸·素养升华
Ⅰ.阅读理解
A
Many of us feel uneasy when someone stands too close to us,talks to us too loudly or makes eye contact with us for too long. But have you ever wondered why those things make you uncomfortable
It’s all about personal space, which means not only an imaginary space around the body, but also the space around all the senses.People feel that their space is being violated(侵犯) when they meet with an unwelcome sound, smell or look. This is probably why a man on a crowded bus shouting into his mobile phone or a woman next to you putting on strong perfume(香水) makes you feel angry.Whether people have had a stronger wish to protect their personal space in recent times is hard to say.Yet studies of airlines show that people have a strong desire to have space to themselves. In a survey, people said that if they had to pay more for some extra service, they would rather have larger seats than extra food.
Although people may need their personal space, some hardly realise it.
For example, people on a bus who hold newspapers in front of their faces to read in fact keep a distance from strangers.Go and watch library table. You will notice that one of the corner seats will usually be taken first, because they are the farthest way. What if someone sits opposite to you Maybe you will pile up books as if to make a wall.
Preference for personal space is different from culture to culture.
Scientists have found that Americans generally prefer more personal space than people from other cultures. In Latin cultures, however, people are more comfortable standing close to each other.

“What’s your ‘Thing of the Day’ ” I asked my fourteen-year-old son as he got a piece of potato onto his plate. This is a question that our four kids and whichever friends who are staying for supper expect to be asked each evening at suppertime.Usually,it’s followed with,“Uhh...
Umm...We had pizza for lunch.”And then I have to refuse the response and ask for something meaningful—either something he learned or something that happened with his friends.
But,this day,my son surprised me as he went into great detail about how he had been honestly wronged by a couple of classmates and laughed at in front of the class.I asked more questions and learned that the teachers were aware of the situation. The issue had been dealt with as much as the teachers and staff were able to.It was really just a matter of kids being mean and deciding to play a trick on someone.
I thought about the situation all night.I vacillated between meeting the teachers, meeting the parents of the classmates, and not doing anything since the story had been told to me in a matter-of-fact way—not over-excitedly.
I waited until the next day after school. On the car ride home,
questioned my son what about today after yesterday’s situation. My son was surprised that I brought it up again.“What No,it’s over,Mum.
They’re my friends.They were just being stupid.They apologised.Forgive and forget,you know We’re all good.”
I was worried that perhaps he was trying to hide his concern or sadness about the thing. But as watched him over the next days and weeks,
everything seemed “normal”.Wouldn’t it be great if everyone could live the “forgive and forget” way of life

Ⅰ.阅读理解
A
Many of us feel uneasy when someone stands too close to us,talks to us too loudly or makes eye contact with us for too long.
Although people may need their personal space, some hardly realise it.For example, people on a bus who hold newspapers in front of their faces to read in fact keep a distance from strangers.Go and watch library table. You will notice that one of the corner seats will usually be taken first, because they are the farthest way. What if someone sits opposite to you Maybe you will pile up books as if to make a wall.
Preference for personal space is different from culture to culture.Scientists have found that Americans generally prefer more personal space than people from other cultures. In Latin cultures, however, people are more comfortable standing close to each other.

D.A Latino who is chatting with a friend sitting close to him
3.What can we know from the survey in Paragraph 2
A.People need a smaller personal space in recent times than before.
B.People have a strong desire for personal space in recent times.

“What’s your ‘Thing of the Day’ ” I asked my fourteen-year-old son as he got a piece of potato onto his plate. This is a question that our four kids and whichever friends who are staying for supper expect to be asked each evening at suppertime.Usually,it’s followed with,“Uhh...Umm...We had pizza for lunch.”And then I have to refuse the response and ask for something meaningful—either something he learned or something that happened with his friends.
On the car ride home, questioned my son what about today after yesterday’s situation. My son was surprised that I brought it up again.“What No,it’s over,Mum.They’re my friends. They were just being stupid. They apologised.Forgive and forget, you know We’re all good.”
I was worried that perhaps he was trying to hide his concern or sadness about the thing. But as watched him over the next days and weeks, everything seemed “normal”.Wouldn’t it be great if everyone could live the “forgive and forget” way of life

(1)由感叹词what引导的感叹句。
what修饰名词或名词短语,有以下两种形式:
What+a(an)+(形容词)+单数可数名词+主语+谓语!
What an apple this is!
What+(形容词)+可数名词复数或不可数名词+主语+谓语!

I’d like to share a little story with you about something that happened when I was four.I remember it clearly. Our loving family dog was nearing the end of his life.My father picked him up and put him in a little bed.Our dog, whom we loved very much, bit my father when he attempted to help him.How could he Why I couldn’t understand it.I didn’t like him anymore.
I hadn’t thought about that story for a long time but something that happened last week brought it back to me.I went to speak with a friend. When I knocked on the door,I met with an angry look and a few harsh(尖刻的)words. When the door was slammed(砰地关上)in my face,I stood there shocked, and suddenly,I thought of my dog bit my father 20 years ago. What brought that story back was that same feeling of betrayal(背叛,辜负).
Both stories taught me something the next day.You see, when I got up in the morning and was told my dog had died,it became clear to me that he must have been in great pain.Much the same for the other story when I learnt my friend’s wife had just left him.
We all have different opinions and feelings. And all of those can cause you to say and do things that can’t be understood by other people, because they are not in the same situation with you.

I believe in the power of science fiction, not just for its capacity to turn dreams into reality, but also for its power to bond together those who share a common view of the future. For me,that’s true for my relationship with my dad. Some fathers and sons bond over sports, fishing or hunting, but my dad and I bond over Star Trek.We tried a trip to Disney World, but one of my earliest memories wasn’t Mickey, but a Klingon battle cruiser(巡洋舰) on the screen.
Over the years, nearly every setting and situation has become far away for my dad and me.When it’s warm at night,we’re not driving along some dark streets in Indiana, but going at a slow speed with stars dimly shining. Both of us are thinking of them, without needing to say a word. All these imaginations of other universes have together created a private universe for my dad and me.
Gene Roddenberry, creator of Star Trek, once said,“Science fiction is a way of thinking,a way of logic that bypasses(绕过) a lot of nonsense. It allows people to look directly at important subjects.” A lifetime of science fiction has influenced more than just my relationship with my dad,but has also helped me shape my own hopes for the future.I’m now a science writer.
Yes,science fiction has made me into a “nerd(书呆子)” and it also has been a source of joy for my family, making me an optimist while enabling me to think critically about the danger of technology.Thank those authors who have shared their visions:the world and my family are better for it.Thank my dad,who is both the best storyteller and the best man I have ever known because he helped me realise the truth of Tennyson’s words,“For I dipped into the future, far as human eye could see,saw the vision of the world, and all the wonder that would be.”

27.What may be the best title for the text

True friendship is like sound health; the value of it is seldom known until it is lost.
—Charles Caleb Colton
Just like in any other relationship, arguments and fights are also a part of friendship. You will hardly find friends who have never fought with one another.Whatever the reason is,if a person feels that he is responsible for creating the differences,it is important that he apologises to his friend.
Though you can use the email, text messages or chat for expressing your apology, the good old way of saying sorry to your friend through a letter will surely have a great effect on him. This will make your friend realise that your efforts of saying sorry are genuine and you really care for him.
Points to Remember:
Timing:Write the letter at the proper time.It is not advisable to put it off for too long.
Words:While writing the letter, what matters the most is that you truly feel sorry.
Sequence:Always begin by apologising and saying sorry for your mistake. Then explain to him your side of the story. In the third and last paragraph, talk about what his friendship means to you and make a promise of not repeating the mistake.
Delivery:You can either post it or deliver the letter personally or through someone else. You can also keep it at a location where your friend will be able to find it easily.
Some people may try to point out the friend’s mistake while writing the letter.Avoid this completely,as it can make matters worse. The letter has to be brief and should only talk about the subject that has led to your apology.Keep patient and do not expect immediate results. In some cases,it may take time for the person to forgive and forget.

We all have some people whom we respect very much, like our family members, our friends or our teachers.
Respect often means different things to different people. There are several aspects that many people can agree on,though. For example,at its most basic level, respect means being kind and considerate to others.
Respect can take many forms.Don’t make fun of others.Put yourself in other
people’s shoes and think about how they feel.Remember the Golden Rule:treat others the same way you’d want to be treated.
Respect is important because it sets the proper stage for all our human interactions.Friendship, love, and even basic communication must all start with respect.
Everyone wants to be respected. To get respect, though, you must also show respect for others. It’s always a two-way street. You can’t be impolite to others and expect respect in return.
It’s easy to show respect.Be polite.Look for the best in people rather than concentrating on their mistakes.Show compassion to others and try to put their interests before your own.Make others comfortable when they’re uneasy.Help out whenever you can. When you pay it forward, amazing things can happen.
And be respectful to everyone. The world is an unbelievably huge place filled with billions of people, each one of whom is unique and special. And they all deserve your respect!
Be careful, though. Not everyone will show you respect all the time.In fact,
you’ll probably see examples of impolite behaviour each and every day.How you respond to impolite behaviour, though, can make a huge difference.
If you choose to respond to impolite behaviour by acting rudely yourself,
you’ve gained nothing. You’ve only continued the pattern of impolite behaviour and set a bad example.Instead, act respectfully and set a good example.Consistently acting respectfully might just help others learn from your example!
32.According to the Golden Rule, .
A.you’d better walk in others’ shoes
B.you can’t play jokes on other people
C.you should pay attention to your feelings
D.the way you are treated depends on yourself

A.people should respect each other
B.it is always safe to walk in the street
C.some leave and others come back

34.The sixth paragraph is mainly written to tell us .
A.where to find respect
B.how to correct mistakes
C.when to help others in time
D.how to show respect for others
35.According to the passage, what should we do if someone is impolite to us
A.Show him/ her true respect.
B.Leave him/ her alone.
C.Be kind to him/ her sometimes.
D.Set a special example to others.

A good friend can always get you through the hard times. When we are in trouble, they offer us help, support and encouragement.Just as the saying goes,“A friend in need is a friend indeed.”
I get a better understanding of this proverb from my own experience. In the past,my oral English was not good and I was laughed at whenever I spoke English.I lost face and felt down, even losing interest in learning English. It was Li Lei who encouraged me and helped me practise English.Without his help,I couldn’t have cheered up and recovered from discouragement.

Our friendship runs back to our college days when I first met Rishi. We had our own share “first impression about each other”.Mine was—she’s a lovely, charming and full of life personality.Hers was—I look like an arrogant personality.I
don’t blame her for this. Many of my close friends had the same view when they first met me.Blame it on my face and me being a shy person to some extent.
We became really close within a short period of time.Ours was group of four people divided into 2 each during our final year when we both chose advertising as our specialization and the other two journalism.Back then,I was a regular user of one messenger and hardly used another one Rishi liked.
On one specific occasion,we had a really bad argument about a failed project. The usual blame game was on.We decided to put it past us and focus on our studies.During this time, she once handed me her phone to show me a picture. While I was going through that,I came across a message from a particular group that comprises of her and my other two friends.I asked her permission to view the group. She had a blank expression on her face. But she allowed me to go ahead.
I was in shock while going through their messages. Not really positive things were said about me in particular. It shook me.Because these were the people,I considered my friends.I broke down in front of her.She apologised. But I felt cheated on.I told her about my decision of not wanting to continue this friendship further. We both missed each other. But neither of us wanted to give the last try.

Then came the Rajasthan IV trip which was our official last trip.During the trip,we intentionally avoided each other. However,I couldn’t help glancing at her when she turned back and I sensed the same. The embarrassment was heavy like a dark shadow.I was sitting alone with my head down when suddenly a figure approached.I looked up,surprised to find Rishi in front of me.Blushed, she broke the silence,“I am sorry again.I didn’t mean to hurt you.”Tears streaming down, she continued,“I should have talked to you earlier.”I stood up and reached out to hug her,“I am sorry, too.I should have been more generous.”At that moment,we both realised we were an indispensable part of each other’s life.
It’s been almost 7 years after graduation since we picked up our friendship.
Looking back,I am always grateful for her stepping up to make up with me.Till now,she has been one of the few people I can trust and count on.Our major offered us the same background so that we supported each other in our professional development.Of course,we had argument from time to time. But deep down,we both know all the argument is just about helping us to grow into better individuals instead of enemies. Therefore,we both learned to be tolerant and brave enough to always forgive. If we really value our friends and friendship,we would cherish their presence and show willingness to maintain and nurture the relationship.
