Teaching aims:
1. Lead students to learn how to express family’s or school’s rules by using sentences, such as，“Don’t...，You can..., You can’t..., You must..., You have to....”
2. Get students to master these vocabularies: dirty, kitchen, more, noisy, relax, read, terrible, feel, remember, make (one’s ) bed, be strict (with sb.), follow the rules.
3. Enable students to have a good understanding of different reading strategies, develop their reading abilities.
4. Guide students to know that parents and schools make rules to help themselves.
5. Cultivate students’ ability to cooperate and arouse their interest in learning English.

But you know the students in foreign countries may have different ways. Look at the girl, Molly.
Show a picture of Molly, have a guess:

2) What is she unhappy about
3) Who do you think she likes to talk to
Step 3 While reading
1. Read quickly for background information
1) Why is Molly unhappy
2) Does she talk to anyone Who does she talk to How does she talk
2. Read the 1st letter carefully, underline rules for Molly.
Invite one student to underline on the screen. Check the answers together.
3. Write down the rules, fill in the chart

Role play the conversations between Molly and the four persons (mom, dad, teacher, Dr. Know) Students should use “can, can’t, must, have to”to talk about the rules.

Molly: I know, Mom, but it is so early!
Mom: Get up now, so you can have enough time for breakfast.
Molly: OK, I get up now
Mom: Don't leave the dirty dishes in the kitchen, darling.

3. Free talk
T: You know Molly is unhappy about too many rules. What about you Do you have some interesting rules or terrible rules
Share your rules with us, and tell the reasons.
Step 5 Summary
Our parents and school are always strict with us, but they want to help us to be better. As an old saying says: “Nothing can be accomplished without rules and standards.” So try to understand your teachers and parents, because they love us best.
