一、教学目标：
1. 语言知识目标：
1) 能掌握以下单词：world, answer, different, cake, candle, age, blow, blow out, if, will, UK, candy, lucky, popular, cut up idea
2) 能掌握以下句型：
① The answer would be different in different countries.
② The number of candles is the person's age.
③ In China, it's getting popular to do
2. 情感态度价值观目标：
体会学习英语的乐趣，做到“在用中学”“在学中用”。了解世界各地的饮食文化，生日文化等事情，使学生们具有初步的世界文化观念。
二、教学重难点
1. 教学重点：
1) 巩固学生对单元功能和语法结构的理解。
2) 通过阅读短文了解不同国家的饮食文化。
2. 教学难点: 语篇教学，不仅要让学生抓住文章的大意和细节信息，讲解文章中一些常见又实用的词汇和短语，同时，在教学中还需要渗透中西方文化比较和跨文化理解的内容。
三、教学过程
Ⅰ. Warming- up
Look at pictures and ask “What would you like to eat ”.
Students choose one kind of food. Then the teacher tellss them “What are they like ”It’s a psychological test.
Ⅱ. Presentation
1. Talk about what they would like to eat and what they often do on their birthday
2. Show a picture about the passage, ask students to talk about the passage.
What can they see in the picture
What does the boy do in the picture
How old is the boy How do you know that
Can you tell me what the passage is about
Ⅲ. Listening
1. Listen to the tape and find out the birthday foods and countries they hear. Then fill in the chart.
2. Ask students to tell more about the passage according to the chart.
Ⅳ. Reading
1.Scan the passage, and find the key words of each paragraph..
The beginning and the ending may help. They can also discuss in groups.
2. Read for more detail. Fill in the chart.
3. Read for the third time and answer the questions.
Ⅴ. Retell Try to retell each paragraph according to the chart on the screen.
